A shiny new thread to continue the chat on the Sussexes summer shenanigans!

That always puzzled me . If H couldn’t afford a sofa , surely there were some spare ones in BP, KP, WC etc ??

I posted about this previously. I reckon he couldn't be bothered to sort it out, then Meghan arrived, for whom the thought of a second (third? fourth?) hand sofa would be unthinkable, even if it had had royal bottoms on it and been expertly reupholstered.

To add, when the sofa thing crops up, I always think of TLQ's old comfy green sofas in Balmoral. I would think that sort of thing would appall Meghan - all that money and sitting on a 30 year old sofa?! On a frayed tartan carpet?! With cereal in tupperware boxes?!

Yes, I suspect he had a couple of comfortable chairs he liked and hadn't bothered about a sofa, and Meghan didn't like the idea of looking for something in the RF storage facility but wanted something new.

Not fashionable to admit it on MN, but I enjoy reading the MoS, especially the You magazine. It’s good for beauty and fashion tips. Imagine my disappointment this morning when I bought it in Waitrose and discovered M’s face staring at me from the cover.

Tiggy was brought in after the separation, not after Diana's death. Someone for the boys to hang out when they were with Charles and he was busy.

Exactly - hence the fabricated allegations about her by Martin Bashir in the Panorama interview, for which she (much later) received a public apology and substantial damages from the BBC.

How many second fathers does this man need? Elton, Charles Spencer, Foster. Ridiculous nonsense. H is a grown man with his own children

And maybe he should be the best father possible so that they don’t have to seek out second fathers .
Step one would be not to leave them at home while he and M flit around other countries .
Step two would be to provide an extended family life for H and M .
Instead of worrying about G, C and L he should concentrate on his own DC.

It's the difference between old and new money. One isn't necessarily better or worse, they are just different.

This second father business started and continues to be used as a means to insult and hurt Charles, Harry trying to undermine and paint him in a light that means he needs a real father as his was lacking.

Agree. He also claimed in Australia that he wanted to be a better father than his own. Wonder how that's working out

H clearly only thinks in black and white. He doesn't understand nuance at all. KC was far from perfect but his own childhood and indeed adulthood was far from perfect but he did the very best he could with what resources he had. William seems quite happy and functional. Yes, hugely because of his marriage to Catherine but Charles has a lot of input there.

I believe it’s not that he couldn’t put his hand in his pocket….but rather that he didn’t want to!

I read somewhere that he was particularly tight and he treated Cressida very poorly. Karma is a bitch, isn’t it?

IMHO, in the context of the 1950s KC3's parents were hardly unique in their child-rearing complete with nannies and governesses.

But KC3 felt so strongly about his upbringing that he ran his mouth to Dimbleby heedless of how his parents or siblings or children would feel. Karma inflicted H on him.

H is running his mouth heedless of how his parent, his sibling or his children will feel. Imagine A going to middle school (Grades 6-8) with the todger story as fodder for his peers. What a nightmare!

I hope the Queen and Prince Philip had some warning prior to the book coming out.

I gather it was written with JD having access to Charles' private papers, and I can see Charles, as a sensitive boy, writing things that he could not express to his parents. I think he would have been wiser to tone the book down, but perhaps he felt it would have been untrue if he did?
He clearly was miserable at Gordonstoun, and Eton would have suited him much better.

I think even for aristocratic circles in the 50s he did have a particularly tricky time, with a mother absent in Malta early on, and then Queen from when he was three.

At least from what I can gather (not having read either book) Charles restricted his subject to his own feelings rather than other people's privacy.

Why does Charles always get the blame ? Harry had a mother until he was 11. I would hazard a guess, William's experience of his mother is very different

And then diana ran her off telling people she had an abortion it was quite the scandal at the time allegations of her sleeping with prince Charles too

I've always thought that Harry had a 'lot of his Mum in him' as he boasted about in his tawdry book, however it was all of her worst parts; self obsession, self pity and a severe lack of intelligence.

The giggling and hand covering the mouth looks very like fake modesty. As if she’s saying “oh, all this fuss for little-old-us.”

But of course, I don’t think those guys in kilts were there for them.
