Unofficial Draft Guide to RFF

Was I the only one that felt a little badly for the MN team member who tried to get our input in order to help build a guide for this forum recently? That didn’t go as planned!

Am in the only one who laughed about Justine’s “The Royal family forum
is deranged” comment and can take it in stride? That thread was definitely an example!

I am proposing we try again and help crowd source a guide. I just ask that we don’t be so RFF, and have a sense of humor while we do so. I’ll paste my draft attempt below. Everyone is welcome to contribute however they like.

Republican arguments of substance (as opposed to the personal attacks and whataboutery) would make for interesting reading and could be a valuable part of the natural flow of conversation.

Moreover, if Republicans can't handle a thread, how on earth are they going to handle the contentious referendum?

Yep. I just sort of try to blend in tbh by not being an arsehole Grin

I think that’s what most of us try ! , regardless of our opinions 😁

A possible new rule? ‘no arseholes, please’

In that case, you would likely stand out like a sore thumb 😉

The snobbery about posters and their post should stop for one, all this if they post substance its worth it.

On any other forum ai have been pn where other threads on mumsnet or otherwise you never see this...people ignore posts or posters or just actually discuss the comment the person made without needing to say what is posted is boring, not of substance, can't be bothered to read long posts. Why those comments need to be made, I have no idea, they aren't helpful they don't add to the discussion or conversation other than to allow the person making them to feed their ego and feel they are.more superior to someone else.

Can't imagine ever saying someones opinion is boring or not worthy.

Since you seem to be in charge of the labels perhaps you can decide.

No idea what you mean. I didn’t suggest this split

I’ll be catching up on the PR thread.

I’ve just had the most intense couple of days in academia, you wouldn’t believe.

I don’t tend to like labels.

Chatting about mundane activities of members of the royal family vs doing away with the monarchy

What about those that know the Monarchy isn't going to be disbanded so not a true Republican, but wants more transparency with what we've got. That would be a bit of a no-mans land! ?

It's an interesting thought, just no idea how it would work!

I agree.

I would prefer to live in a republic, spent much of my life calling myself a republican, but am now very pro the constitutional monarchy we have because I don't trust the political elite to design a replacement consitution.

I like KC3 and W & C but don't tug my forelock to them, refused to curtsey to Prince Edward ( he didn't mind one bit!) and am uneasy about children being brought up in such an anachronistic institution. I think AMW is a terrible person (thought so long before Epstein) and believe H will go the same way.

Where would I go to chat? Would I be welcome on the Republic board arguing that a constitutional monarchy is not a bad thing currently?

Under the proposed split you wouldn't have a space to go to. Thats the problem of labelling people and putting them in neat little boxes. Reality is it doesn't work.

In the likelihood that this would even happen, it would have no effect whatsoever on your posts or comments, nobody would be restricted from posting anywhere just as it is now , it only means that there would be a dedicated space for republican content!
I have no idea why anyone would be upset, after reading page after page of comments stating that republicans don’t feel welcome, that their comments are shut down and that they are driven off the board and new members don’t feel like posting, I thought about it and then reached back to something proposed by the poster rousette previously 🤷‍♀️.
I have no idea why people are talking about labels? , this was an idea purely based on those posts by posters saying that they were republicans!
and as an aside I neither knew or care that you are republican or light republican, it changes nothing about my feelings about you or your opinions , you remain a poster I feel feelings of friendship for .

threesocksmorgan · Yesterday 19:52

I’m confused so you say republicans don’t feel welcome, so your solution is to have a separate part of the topic for them!!
not very welcoming

savemydrawers · Yesterday 19:58

Ukisgaslit · Yesterday 11:20

@savemydrawers

You clearly take a very serious approach to the threads .
So I assume you also do not approve of gif responses / mocking responses as they are not responses that engage with the detail of posts ?

Oh I love a gif as you well know. Sorry I was out for lunch - yes I do have a life. Sometimes a gif just says it all . A gif is like AI - it's part of modern life.

CathyorClaire · Yesterday 20:02

AnAutumnCrow · Yesterday 13:28

Btw, they're easy to spot when they come back under new names these days using AI. They don't realise it, probably believing they're safe because they prat about with AI themselves a fair bit, but after about four or five medium-length posts on a thread the average AI LLM can always tell.

They tend to be be the ones whose posts I scroll past and completely ignore.

This is interesting.

I had no idea such a thing was even possible. Do you get matches with posting styles and previous names?

How does it work?

CathyorClaire · Yesterday 20:08

Many thanks autumn !
I have made a request for a new /split board on site stuff …I recommended that this board be split between royal chat and republican chat , I honestly think this is the only way to stop the squabbling, I would ask that everyone interested post on there to show support because I believe it is a numbers game for mn to decide.

I think that's an excellent idea 👏

savemydrawers · Yesterday 20:11

So this is all a bit confusing - have I got it right? The republicans don't want their own board because that would be an echo chamber ? They wouldn't be able to explain to others ( who don't agree) their points? They don't like gifs? They don't like jokes? They don't like labels ? This is all very odd. Basically they want to make the rules on the RF Board?

Interesting to see how it turned from a bit of fun to where it is now.

I have seen lots of comments labelling people as Sussex squad members, H&M fans, republicans so plenty of examples to be found. Probably had a few thrown my way too, can't emember, can't be bothered to check either 😆

Scrolling on insta on my way home today I saw a clip of someone interviewing Zendaya asking how she deals with negative comments and her response was to laugh and say she could never block everyone and best to approach it from a compassion point as they ares strangers online , she doesn't know the person, what they are going through and it could of been the highlight of their day to diss her.

It also made me think how easy it is online to read offence into something that wasn't aimed at you, assume the worst, or feel the need to take every comment personally. Sometimes a comment is just a comment.

Be more like Zendaya. Give people the benefit of the doubt, don't go looking for a reaction, and remember life's too short to get hung up on comments from strangers

I do think it's unlikely to happen (and to eventually descend into chaos if it did) but a girl can dream ⛅🌟☀😁

savemydrawers · Yesterday 20:42

@LifeIsTooShort247 I have to agree with you. If you are an ardent republican then I'm sure there are many more serious and less light hearted places for that discussion without gifs , jokes etc . 🤷‍♀️

I don’t think there is any harm, given the posts over the last 48hrs, to see what the appetite is for a republican section, it has been requested by some republican posters on more than one occasion. Does seem like the tide has turned on this idea though, no biggie 🤷‍♀️

Personally, having been incorrectly pigeonholed on this board plenty of times, I tend to just pull one of these ‘🙄’ faces and I just post wherever I think is most appropriate. I don’t find it that difficult.
