Unofficial Draft Guide to RFF

MrsStarkey · 29/07/2026 20:26

Was I the only one that felt a little badly for the MN team member who tried to get our input in order to help build a guide for this forum recently? That didn’t go as planned!

Am in the only one who laughed about Justine’s “The Royal family forum
is deranged” comment and can take it in stride? That thread was definitely an example!

I am proposing we try again and help crowd source a guide. I just ask that we don’t be so RFF, and have a sense of humor while we do so. I’ll paste my draft attempt below. Everyone is welcome to contribute however they like.

such a pity as there is so much that needs to be explained , revealed and debated re the Windsors

I don't want to do any of those things. I don't care and I'm not interested.

I think some people take this board far too seriously, it has no wider power or implications, it is just people chatting.

CathyorClaire · Yesterday 11:55

Finally managed to catch up.

I think Waitingfortheotherfeather has made some valid points especially when it comes to nit-picking and goading.

I've had posters roundly debunk my links on the basis of source, imply I'm unhinged and sneer when I haven't returned to a thread in what they deem a timely manner. I've also been patronised.

None of it is enough to drive me off the board (far too many unpalatable truths about the Windsors to be pointed out) but it can feel uncomfortable at times.

I agree with Ukisgaslit's point about there being a more accurate reflection of general opinion on the royals in AIBU and chat threads but this thread alone shows why the rest of MN wants to keep royal threads corralled 😁

adragoncalledaudrey · Yesterday 12:00

I think that forums are just people chatting too @RecoIIectionsMayVary.

I also like a gif response. A picture tells a thousand words they say. It can be funny and thought provoking and can steer things away from getting way too serious.

Real life is bad enough for some and we can come here for a bit of relief.

I took this to be just a fun thread for example.

Until it wasn’t.

@adragoncalledaudrey

”real life is bad enough for some”

Im sorry if that is the case for you or others here .
Your point appears very valid in the surface but the fact that some posters need to escape their lives isn’t reason enough to attempt to chase other posters away.
That is what happens here .

And the fact is in the UK today the Windsors are not light relief . Many of us find them
disturbing .
There’s nothing funny about Epstein and the Windsors . We have a right to know what is going on in the ‘head of state family’ that we pay for .
We don’t all turn away and pretend nothing is happening.

I don't agree, what happens here is people joining threads with an agenda, they want to force posters to have conversations on topics that are not relevant to the sub thread.

Whilst your points are valid, start a thread about those things- talk about it there as much as you want, but don't shoehorn those issues into every sub thread on this board.

As for 'turning away' I actually take offence at that. Irl I have to face some exceptionally difficult issues. In my leisure time I will avoid all those things and there is nothing wrong with that.

adragoncalledaudrey · Yesterday 13:16

I haven’t seen chasing.

You may have but I haven’t.

I was speaking about MN in general - not the windsors.

You can find them disturbing.

I find 3 of them troubling. And two of them are ‘Sussex now’. The other? We certainly all find him disturbing and troubling. There are many words we can use about him.

I just don’t think that moaning about having to pay for people on MN is going to do any good.

It will make not blind bit of difference. Nor will standing on a corner wailing ‘not my king’.

I’d like to see the books from Archewell and Invictus. I’d like to know why there isn’t insurance for participants. I’d like to know why M&H despise the ‘people we pay for’ but seemingly want us to pay for their security and lifestyle when they chose to walk away from royal life. I’d like to know why their truth doesn’t match the truth.

I won’t get the answers on here. But we don’t turn away from that either - just like those don’t turn away from AMW.

I feel both of our points have validity to them in part. In particular to AMW. But there are threads about that already. We no doubt have already participated in them.

I find it insulting that you seem to think because there is a light hearted thread on the RF board that you have to mention there is nothing funny about Epstein and (some of) the Windsors.

Most of us - if not all - are decent people on here and agree with that entirely. It is insulting that there seems to be an insinuation that we don’t.

We don’t need to see it in every thread. It feels as though it must be rammed in no matter what. A shame but not entirely unexpected.

And I can make my own conclusions as to why that seems to be.

MrsStarkey · Yesterday 13:21

The conversation has morphed into “What I don’t like about RFF” and that is fine.

False-Teaming is a topic that merits discussion and it goes along with false labeling.

“a manipulation tactic where someone tries to create a fake sense of shared purpose, experience, or partnership”

This is used with abandon here in multiple ways. A simple example is above suggesting their opinion is shared on AIBU implying therefore anyone not sharing it here is wrong.

Conversely suggesting that only <insert label here> would think like you think.

If that were to stop entirely it would be a much more pleasant board.

MrsStarkey · Yesterday 13:23

And by the way, AIBU is not a shining beacon of hope. The way women in DV situations are treated there is horrifying so I’m not sure their political opinions are worthy.

IAmATorturedPoet · 05/08/2026 16:04

I remember that well.
The accusations, the tag teaming, the sucking-up, assumptions made about a poster’s skin colour based on their posts. Revolting. Then changing username thinking no one would recognise them 🙄
That whole sorry episode really should have been dealt with by MNHQ much more vigorously than it was.

Btw, they're easy to spot when they come back under new names these days using AI. They don't realise it, probably believing they're safe because they prat about with AI themselves a fair bit, but after about four or five medium-length posts on a thread the average AI LLM can always tell.

They tend to be be the ones whose posts I scroll past and completely ignore.

Absolutely this.. holy shit some of the responses would curl your hair!

adragoncalledaudrey · Yesterday 13:34

I find that those sometimes passing their alarming opinions to victims of DV on aibu have never been in that situation themselves.

And curl your hair? Yes it would. You’d end up looking like Sideshow Bob.

Ukisgaslit · Yesterday 13:53

@adragoncalledaudrey

Look at the threads on Andrew .
There you will find some royalists downplaying and excusing Andrew
‘he hasn’t been convicted’ ‘ where were her parents ‘ etc

Hence my visceral reaction .
I thought the Windsors charging charities and pick pocketing the deceased was shocking . I’m still disturbed by what has been revealed recently and I won’t stop asking questions about what William and Charles - and others- knew and when .
Sorry if that’s not ‘lighthearted’

MrsStarkey · Yesterday 13:56

@AnAutumnCrow The use of AI is a great topic. We would never come to consensus overall but a discussion about when it’s used and how it’s used would be interesting.

I just had two new AI buttons pop up on my phone while typing here. One said “rewrite” and the other was to make corrections.

You may of course post anything you wish and wherever you like but if you walk into the middle of a golf green and sit down to start playing cards you cannot claim surprise when little white balls start flying about you.

There’s a lighthearted thread about Harry and Meghan running now. Do you ever interject your concerns into threads like that?

Mumsnet started a thread on this board about how they thought it worked or giving guidelines for posting here, something like that, I'm not sure exactly because it was deleted before I saw it.

The OP decided to start a light hearted version asking for rules of engagement. It's morphed a bit here and there.

@MrsLeonFarrell Thank you for responding the way I myself should have done. You are always so gracious.

OP posts:
adragoncalledaudrey · Yesterday 14:07

I’ve read some of those threads. I’m not interested in those who would choose to excuse him or downplay his actions.

And away you go with those quotation marks. I don’t feel you are sorry. Not at all.

I see what is happening. I’m not interested in engaging. Thanks ever so.

Like I said before on this thread - sometimes bothering to say anything other than what want to hear is futile.

I spend quite a lot of time disabling AI on my phone and ever time it updates I have to check it again. Hate it.

I feel the same way about it popping up where it’s not invited. It annoys me that it’s the top reply on any web search.

If posters are using it to wholly write a thesis, I’m going to scroll on by. But if they use it to improve comprehensibility of their writing that seems like a good use. I may use that spell check button.

OP posts:
adragoncalledaudrey · Yesterday 14:29

I don’t know when it started popping up on places as the first option.

I don’t care for it much.

If I’ m honest, I would rather read a post that is genuine - even if it is a little disjointed.

I feel a little disconnected from this all singing all dancing century - more so the last decade of it.

Folk are forgetting themselves.

No more interest than in a thread called “Stealing from the poor; when is it right?”

But this is the false teaming I’m describing.
“Royalists excusing Andrew”.

So:
If you suggest anything not positive about H&M
Therefore:
You are a Royalist
Therefore:
You support AMW

Endless examples of this “logic” which isn’t about the Royal Family at all but just a way to create conflict and insult people on the internet. It achieves nothing but possibly to invigorate and pass the time. For me it’s not really any different a past time than celebrity hate watching. Except the “Royalists” are the specimen.

I find it really insidious and a detriment to critical thinking. People assume AI, and Chatgpt in particular, are right but so often they are either making information up or misunderstanding it. I see it as the logical extension of 'London, England' syndrome and it harms everyone.

The determined hijacking has not appeared on the mandated lighthearted thread on HaM.

Interesting.

I have made a request for a new /split board on site stuff …I recommended that this board be split between royal chat and republican chat , I honestly think this is the only way to stop the squabbling, I would ask that everyone interested post on there to show support because I believe it is a numbers game for mn to decide.

Yes, I find the same and will almost certainly scroll by (or I might call it out😬)

On the subject of AI, by default, AI is the top result of any search I do, I have given it a complete swerve since I looked at it on one particular occasion and the source it used was Reddit 🙄.
