Unofficial Draft Guide to RFF

MrsStarkey · 29/07/2026 20:26

Was I the only one that felt a little badly for the MN team member who tried to get our input in order to help build a guide for this forum recently? That didn’t go as planned!

Am in the only one who laughed about Justine’s “The Royal family forum
is deranged” comment and can take it in stride? That thread was definitely an example!

I am proposing we try again and help crowd source a guide. I just ask that we don’t be so RFF, and have a sense of humor while we do so. I’ll paste my draft attempt below. Everyone is welcome to contribute however they like.

Can we invoke Op's unofficial rule 11 please. Then we can return to being lighthearted 😂 The popcorn is getting cold and the drama budget has officially been exceeded.

@jeffgoldblum I didn't see those 2 posts until after they got deleted, but you are consistently unreasonably singled out.

I was staggered about a year ago to find out that someone was complaining about my RF comments on reddit. They also criticised some other very reasonable posters. Cie la vie.

I remember you bemused , as I recall you and another American poster were subject to spiteful, posts about squirty cheese ( as if that was all that was available in the US) and joined us on the cheese threads , I’m glad you felt included! , yes us being dissected on Reddit mn trolls is uncomfortable! , but I like to wear it as a badge of honour, the more I ( or us) are attacked, the more, that our voices are needed!

Nope sorry - your post with SOME was right above my post. It was the one I responded to . See attached. 🧐

Is SOME the new IF ?

FFS tell me how I tried to be clever. Go on. Tell me.

Tell me why I need a comeback for saying that not all PMs are bad? And for illustrating why in a polite way. What is wrong with that? It was just a conversation.
I haven't flounced but I refuse to be attacked for using the word SOME.

If you are insinuating that I am some sort of paid person with a shift I will report your post.

I just made a point that not all PMs are bad. How awful of me. I have to say I agree with the poster who said that posters get driven off. This is totally what is happening. This thread leaves a horrible taste in the mouth.

Cue lots of stupid gifs and back slapping between you all. Go for it. It'll keep you all busy till the early hours... enjoy!

No one said you needed a " comeback" for saying that some posters private message.

You were not attacked for using the word " some".

You started with the SOME posters. At least have the honesty to own up that your " comeback" was @ me as I was the only person to talk about this.

You then try to turn this into a "waaaah I'm being picked on " when it is nothing of the sort. It was a correction of what you had said. You confused the posts and you said I had . I had not . Perhaps the mods changed names on the posts again and rearranged them? I've heard that one before. 🤷‍♀️

I have no idea what this thread is about. Rule book? What? Whatever thread this is referring to, I missed it. Can someone enlighten me?

I think you may have opened the wrong door. My advice is to back away, very slowly. or quickly. However you think best. Do like the lady in this video.

I'm having a sleepless night and have also 'opened the wrong door' so will slip out very quietly and pretend it was all a dream.....

Mumsnet started a thread on this board about how they thought it worked or giving guidelines for posting here, something like that, I'm not sure exactly because it was deleted before I saw it.

The OP decided to start a light hearted version asking for rules of engagement. It's morphed a bit here and there.

I think I know who you’re referring to - I miss AliceOlive. I hope she’s still here under a name change. I’m usually rubbish at recognising old posters under new names.I may get a ‘uncanny valley’ vibe and know it’s a poster returning but for the life of me I can’t quite place the name. Some returnees foghorn their old posting style so loudly that even my menopausal memory connects the dots!

I think the Poundland MN was quite short lived - I think it had “chat’ in the title and was possibly in the purple or penguin era (not all purples or all penguins were involved) Their counterpoint has been described already

Ukisgaslit · Yesterday 09:16

@Waitingfortheotherfeather

I haven’t read the whole thread but I’ve caught a few of your posts and I agree with you . Your points will resonate with many posters and readers.

There is a reason that this board is mocked on the rest of mumsnet - and that’s such a pity as there is so much that needs to be explained , revealed and debated re the Windsors .

Which brings me to my main point .
Why would adults resort to gifs, in ‘jokes’ and nitpicking over posters wording ?

Because they have no argument , do not want to engage seriously with any argument and hope to frustrate and bore those with other views in the hope that they will give up .

And this is exactly what happens as very few people have the time or more importantly the inclination, to sit on a board day after day month after month .

Moderation does not exist on this board . It relies on posters reporting and again if you are someone who sits on a board day after day you have time report posts you don’t like. If these posts are then deleted this is held up as some sort of ‘proof’ . Other equally deserving of deletion posts are left up because posters aren’t so emotionally invested or are too busy to be bothered .

Start threads about the Windsors on AIBU or chat or whatever and you will see the reality of how the royals are truly viewed .

Do you mean it was another forum group set up ?

savemydrawers · Yesterday 09:59

@Ukisgaslit it's always advisable to read the whole of a thread as you get a better understanding of what's been said.

Ukisgaslit · Yesterday 10:07

@savemydrawers

I disagree.
I was responding to one poster in particular and adding my own view .

There are many posters that I now skip - I’m sure you do the same .

savemydrawers · Yesterday 10:12

Oh I don't believe you can get the full flavour of something by just dipping in but then that's my traditional academic background. You have to read the good, bad and the ugly. Something we obviously disagree on. 🤷‍♀️

Ukisgaslit · Yesterday 10:15

@savemydrawers

This is not an advice thread where I agree you should try to read as much as possible to avoid repeating points

This board is not about advice . If you check my user name I’ve been on it enough to know what goes on

Im sure you did not intend this but the ‘read the thread’ response is often used as a way to avoid dealing with a poster’s points on this board.
Its another deflection / avoidance tactic

Really? How odd. It seems so many things are unacceptable or viewed in some other way. I didn't think you wanted your points debated as you said you were just addressing a particular poster ?

Ukisgaslit · Yesterday 10:20

I was responding to a particular poster yes .
Of course feel free to respond to my points now @savemydrawers

Well as you already said you hadn't read the whole thread I didn't feel they would have much value. That would be a waste of time.

Yes myrtle , it was Aliceolive, I was unsure if it was allowed to name posters if they are not about , yes I agree with you on the other things too .

Ukisgaslit · Yesterday 11:09

So is this a rule in the royal boards ?

Posters must prove / state that they have read every post before posting or responding or their post is unworthy of response ?
How ‘odd’ ( that’s the term isn’t it ?)
I’ve missed that one .

Bearing in mind this thread was supposed to be lighthearted, I think you will find it’s probably covered off in Rule no.10. 😁

(these rules are not the official rules though, obviously!)

Ukisgaslit · Yesterday 11:20

@savemydrawers

You clearly take a very serious approach to the threads .
So I assume you also do not approve of gif responses / mocking responses as they are not responses that engage with the detail of posts ?
