Unofficial Draft Guide to RFF

MrsStarkey · 29/07/2026 20:26

Was I the only one that felt a little badly for the MN team member who tried to get our input in order to help build a guide for this forum recently? That didn’t go as planned!

Am in the only one who laughed about Justine’s “The Royal family forum
is deranged” comment and can take it in stride? That thread was definitely an example!

I am proposing we try again and help crowd source a guide. I just ask that we don’t be so RFF, and have a sense of humor while we do so. I’ll paste my draft attempt below. Everyone is welcome to contribute however they like.

I don’t think anyone is too intimidated to post either.

If they are? Maybe the internet isn’t for them.

If I don’t like what someone says, I’ll either answer it or walk away.

I won’t be chased by anyone. I’ll not flounce either.

I would leave because sometimes there is no getting through to people who won’t listen to why you think a particular thing.

It doesn’t mean it is weak. Just that it sometimes feels futile.

And that’s fine.

absolutely all of this @adragoncalledaudrey Bualadh bos 👏

I was asking the posters who do post on PR disasters if its okay because as this thrrad has shown those same posters have said its okay is conversations meander so therefore if that is allowed then mentioning Andrew shouldn't be an issue and there would be the chorus of you are derailing a thread after all food, movies, animals can all be mentioned. At least get the context of why I said it before using it incorrectly

There is a difference between meandering...

...if he does I'll eat my hat... is it a cheese hat.... I like a brie beret...

Which is an organic train-of-though community- bonding conversation development.

And the sort of blunt-axe AMW non-sequitur ( mostly used to head off critique of H&M's latest PR endeavours) as in:

"H&M shouldn't have done that because <reasons>!"

"You'll critcisize H&M for <reasons> but you've got nothing to say about AMW*!"

Where AMW is not relevant.

  • just need to point out that H&M have nothing to say about AMW either.

OK I can see I am being referred to as a flouncer so I will respond to that.

To clarify I do think there has been bullying on this board when people were driven off.

What else do you call it when people have felt too intimidated to post?

Posters who shall remain nameless have pm’d me out of the blue because they felt genuine distress about it.

Mumsnet HQ can go through my pms if they want proof, I have also contacted them about it on two or three occasions in the last couple of months.

That’s it. I think it’s unfair Mumsnet HQ that I am being targeted here. It’s not just me complaining about it, the unpleasantness on the RF board has been noted and commented upon outside of this site if you care to look.

I am a genuine poster and I am not here to jeer at others and cause mischief like some.

Edited

I wasn't calling you a flouncer, I hope you didn't think I was. I was trying to make a humorous response. In every online spacee I've been in there are always people who announce they are leaving, leave and then return, usually soon afterwards. They have always been called flouncers

I am so sorry if you thought i meant you personally, it wasn't my intention.

And here, for the uninitated and puzzled, is another phenomenon in play. No-one calls a poster a flouncer, but there will now follow a derail where the poster insists someone did, or inferred it at least, and will play victim because she has been insulted.

LipglossAndLies · 05/08/2026 18:59

On who? I made a general comment where there are plenty of times and example of im not going to comment on x but ....

So who is beijg personally attacked here? Was there a name? Someone tagged in? If someoen felt it was about them thats not my issue..why does that person feel it was about them? Who knows 🤷‍♀️

Did you feel personally attacked by it?

Your comment clearly wasn't a general comment or it wouldn't have been deleted. If you have an issue with this then it's best you take it up with MNHQ 🤷‍♀️

I apologise unreservedly if I replied to the wrong person here by mistake.

Sorry this thread is fast moving and I am cooking dinner at the same time.

Thank you MrsLeonFarrell the encouragement is genuinely appreciated .

I have been here long enough to see two regular Republican posters chased off the board. I name change regularly partly for this reason.

I am afraid that some posters are being very disingenuous when they pretend to not understand how this happens.

And speaking as a Republican, I agree with you totally about the “Where’s Kate?” threads which were horrible. Everyone should have a right to privacy for medical matters and I said so at the time. I said the same about comments referring to Meghan’s pregnancies which were unacceptable too imho.

Can I just make the general point that you can be a Republican and not have anything against the RF as individuals who, like the rest of us, have not had much choice in to which family they were born, so it gets a bit wearisome if you post anything positive or sympathetic about them and you are then accused of “not being a proper Republican”!

Even those that marry in cannot truly experience what it’s really like until they do and all of the pressure of the press intrusion that goes along with it that must change your fundamental experience of trust and friendship.

Republicanism to my mind, isn’t about baiting the individuals involved, it’s about changing a system. In fact I feel sorry for a lot of the royals (except AMW and even he was abused as a child) bc I think they have to have a very strong moral code and fierce intelligence not to be corrupted by the wealth and privilege that surrounds them.

How would you know why someone stopped posting here?

I have seen numerous situations almost 30 years of online forum participation.

What happened online on many sites during the “Where’s Kate” phenomena was grotesque.

Sussex Squad openly and actively targeted people to shut them down. Many posters were banned across the internet. They were gleeful about it.

But also, some posters, swept up in the excitement of being able to openly troll Catherine and William, behaved quite badly. They disappeared and abandoned their user names. I’ve read elsewhere that those folks are still around but under new names. (Not this site, another).

Also, sadly, posters die. Life circumstances change, or they get the shits of it and just move on.

I’ve been run off threads and put off posting at times, too. So you really don’t know.

How do you know who has reported someone's post? 🤔

It’s a little more than obvious sometimes. Like when someone contributes nothing to a thread but to demand others get back on topic, then appears anytime someone dare stray, and repeatedly tells others to mind the rules, misinterpreting even MNHQ posts in the thread.

@Waitingfortheotherfeather

I will say that anyone who says they are sorry if someone feels attacked and then goes on to repeat what has been said and also adds more to it, doesn’t come across as sorry at all.

Not one bit.

How would you know why someone stopped posting here?

Because they pm’d me about it at the time and told me how upset they were and that they wouldn’t be posting any more.

I felt it was a great shame because they were a very polite poster who wasn’t out to make trouble. They simply held a Republican perspective and made that known and they were targeted because of it.

There were posters who engaged in genuine debate with her, but there was also a group who made a point of making her feel uncomfortable whenever she posted. I witnessed it.

And then it happened again about a year and a half later! Different poster. Very similar circumstances..

This wasn’t recently but a couple of years back but the behaviour that stopped them posting is still happening, not all of the time, but fairly regularly.

I agree totally that the “Where’s Kate?” posts were horrible and have already said that to MrsLeonFarrell.

Harrassing anyone who is suffering from cancer is unforgivable and deeply repugnant, especially when C said she was going to be out of the public eye for several months. It wasn’t reasonable or fair to make out there was some sort of conspiracy going on. I have nothing personal against Catherine at all for that matter. I think she is very professional in her role.

I disagreed with the load of incomers to those threads who were attacking her in the mistaken belief they were supporting H&M. They were just horrible. There is no other word for it.

I want to make it clear though that just because someone has some sympathy for H&M it doesn’t automatically mean that they engage in, or approve of, attacks on Catherine!

I said so at the time but bc I also expressed separate Republican views I was somehow lumped under the category of Sussex Squad for many months in the aftermath of that. when I didn’t know what the SS was until I read about it on these pages. I wasn’t believed when I contradicted it and that wasn’t pleasant or fair either.

I take your points though about people dying, moving on, perhaps coming back under a different nn. I obviously can’t keep tabs on that. I only know that others are upset when they pm me about it and I respond to them. And it’s been quite a few people who have contacted me, totally unsolicited, and I have occasionally pm’d someone who I thought was being given a particularly hard time.

I imagine that Mumsnet HQ has a much better idea of these things than I do if they have received complaints.

I’m really sorry that you have experienced being run off a thread too.

Unlike you I will address you directly instead of doing it when I’m not actually around to defend myself!!
perhaps your claims of Victimhood would be taken more seriously if you could actually stop attacking me!
6 years of this and I’m fed up of it frankly! , it didn’t work then and it won’t work now , if anyone has the claim to being constantly attacked and driven off the board it is me ! , and yes there are multiple witnesses over the years , perhaps if you find mn so upsetting perhaps it’s not the forum for you .

The only unpleasant posts have been from you, personally attacking another poster repeatedly, your posts broke talk guidelines and were swiftly removed as they should be.

Are we allowed to state that there is a Sussex Squad, who some of us believe occasionally descend on a thread with the intention of pushing the latest H&M line/defence/script?

This is all seems to be very cliquey and even suspicious - a little group communicating behind the scenes talking about what is an internet forum with strangers . I didn't realise people take it so seriously but you live and learn. You have in your own words collaborated with others and recall it which again is a bit odd. It's strange that this features on a thread where people are talking about being driven off threads. It seems like the groups are originating from your end.
