Unofficial Draft Guide to RFF

Was I the only one that felt a little badly for the MN team member who tried to get our input in order to help build a guide for this forum recently? That didn’t go as planned!

Am in the only one who laughed about Justine’s “The Royal family forum
is deranged” comment and can take it in stride? That thread was definitely an example!

I am proposing we try again and help crowd source a guide. I just ask that we don’t be so RFF, and have a sense of humor while we do so. I’ll paste my draft attempt below. Everyone is welcome to contribute however they like.

It’s unofficial. That means it’s not official.

But what is the deal with cheese?

Edited

Cheese is tasty , robust, from every country and region! , it can’t be buttonholed , hidden away, or disappeared! , it’s cheese! 🧀 …and we all love it! ( apart from those with dairy intolerance and they love it , on principle!)

I just wanted clarification because when it does meander using Andrew an example there will be some posters who will object to it and report you for derailong yet the same posters are happy to let other things like cheese, pigeons etc... to be mentioned mostly because its then doing it. So the point about this being an unofficial guide then its needs to clear about this.

You don’t need clarification, you’ve been told numerous times, the OP appears to have set up this thread for a bit of light relief and chit chat, not setting up the Ten Commandments for the royal board or other threads within it.

Yet light hearted is understood when it comes to her own thread! 🤷‍♀️

Yes no confusion there……🤔

Not my fault you choose to not take what I say lighthearted 💁‍♀️

AnAutumnCrow · 04/08/2026 23:51

I think I read that pigeons were first domesticated in ancient Cyprus. It’s fascinating how the evidence shows that interdependence with humans.

Also cheese was one of the ways that domesticated animals’ milk could be preserved longer and exchanged during the later neolithic. It’s as old as me, nearly.

Bonus Rule: If a poster solemnly announces they no longer wish to engage with you and asks you not to quote or tag them, don't be alarmed if they later quote you, tag you, or comment on your posts. "This is my last reply" should be interpreted as a renewable subscription.

This really is the last time I'm mentioning this... probably. 😆

lighthearted , unacknowledged!

Thanks for this. Ended up singing it to my family. Couldn’t help it after seeing it here. They didn’t say a word when I finished. It was more alarming than if they had mocked me.

Back when the original cheese threads took place, I ended up spending a lot of money on UK cheeses at Trader Joe's due to the discussion. I, at least, was serious about cheese.

love the way posters have proved the point with the in jokes.

They happen everywhere people have been chatting for a long time, in life and in forms. There are a few long running threads on mumsnet where even the thread titles hark back to an in joke. As long as posters are happy to include newcomers to a topic and are willing to explain the in jokes then I think it's fine. We need new posters with new opinions in any topic on any online form, otherwise it becomes stale.

I just left a discussion group I set up for political commentary because one side had chased off anyone who disagreed with them. I wasn't willing to put my time into an echo chamber.

If there are in jokes that people don't understand I for one am always keen to explain them and welcome people to this board.

It would be nice if this was universally the case on the RF threads MrsLeonFarrell but I think it depends on the way the in-jokes are used.

Republicans are regularly chased off this board, to use your terminology, so the point about welcoming newcomers seems to be dependent on the views they hold.

savemydrawers · 05/08/2026 10:14

Seriously how are republicans chased off ?
