Unofficial Draft Guide to RFF

MrsStarkey · 29/07/2026 20:26

Was I the only one that felt a little badly for the MN team member who tried to get our input in order to help build a guide for this forum recently? That didn’t go as planned!

Am in the only one who laughed about Justine’s “The Royal family forum
is deranged” comment and can take it in stride? That thread was definitely an example!

I am proposing we try again and help crowd source a guide. I just ask that we don’t be so RFF, and have a sense of humor while we do so. I’ll paste my draft attempt below. Everyone is welcome to contribute however they like.

🤷‍♀️ , no idea!

Then the question wasn’t for you and there is no need to answer it.

No ! , she’s apparently not a republican and thinks she’s being funny.🤣

All these republicans being regularly chased off the royal board! if only Mumsnet had been around in 1642 the Cavaliers could have started threads to run them out of town and have saved KC’s head 🤦🏻‍♀️

Waitingfortheotherfeather · 05/08/2026 10:57

Thanks! You have all just proved my point perfectly.

Savemydrawers you know very well that “chased off” was *MrsLeonFarrell’s phraseology,

And as all of you know very well, speaking as a republican, it gets to the point that it is really not worth the hassle posting here, which of course is your objective.

jeffgoldblum · 05/08/2026 11:22

Republicans are welcome here! , we already have quite a few longstanding ones , however republicans who defend Harry and Meghan are not going to get the same reception.

You sound like you believe you have the right to decide who posts on here or not Jeffgoldblum?

I thought that was the role of Mumsnet HQ?

Perhaps you should work on your reading comprehension.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 05/08/2026 11:44

It’s very hard to take republicans seriously when they think the King should sell a castle to pay Harry’s ANL court fees and give him a huge allowance pay for his life in Montecito, and one self proclaimed republican on here said the King should give him a grander title as well as a huge allowance 😂 I think I’m more republican than these republicans 😂

Why can't we not be out and out republicans but also think there are times when Harry & meghan have been treated badly and that they don't deserve the constant vitriol they receive. I do not consider myself to be a republican but I want change and transparency with what we've got because it isn't going anywhere.

I - and others - are free to post where we want and say what we want without being told not to answer the question. Threesocksmorgan made a very valid point that not everyone can be put in a box as Royalist or Republican. That sums me up.

I adhere to talk guidelines and I don't listen to those that think they have a right to say who can post because they just make themselves look very silly saying that. And it's often said in a rude way.

Again, this is putting people in boxes. I have not seen that suggestion, but agree with you it is batshit!

Life is not black and white, nor is republican/royalist. There are many views in between!

I totally agree with this point that everyone who is broadly “Republican” or “only mildly monarchist” should be allowed to express their individual nuanced view.

Not everyone likes Meghan and I get that but I defend her, not because I know or like her particularly, but simply bc I think it is unjust that she is the focus of a global negative press campaign that is way out of proportion to anything she has done and think it is strange that whereas AMW is criticised, Meghan is targeted far more. I strongly believe that misogyny and racism are factors in this and I think it’s “batshit” (to use another poster’s phrase) that others can’t see it. Others both monarchist and republican may disagree and frequently do!

Likewise, posters may be suggesting that the King pays off Harry for human reasons, so a dysfunctional family can be reunited, nothing to do with republicanism.

My point is that it should not up to a cabal of posters to decide what others can or cannot post, nor should they high-handedly assume they know their reasons for doing so.

But how is it achieved ? Does it happen when points are challenged and people get hurty feelz?

Oh here we go again.

It is quite clear how it happens.

There are excellent examples of it on this thread.

MrsLeonFarrell · 05/08/2026 12:22

Waitingfortheotherfeather · 05/08/2026 10:13

It would be nice if this was universally the case on the RF threads MrsLeonFarrell but I think it depends on the way the in-jokes are used.

Republicans are regularly chased off this board, to use your terminology, so the point about welcoming newcomers seems to be dependent on the views they hold.

I haven't personally seen anyone chased off the board. I have seen people stop posting after the Where's Kate threads. I don't know their personal politics but imo those threads should have been deleted because the speculation on them was really nasty and did not reflect well on those involved. If anyone reading does feel unable to join the discussion I think that is sad and I hope they will be encouraged by some of the comments here to post.

Editedc to add. I may not be the best person to know who is and isn't here. I find usernames hard to track and assume each new name is a new person which I know isn't always the case.

You can be and post anything you like , and I don’t believe I was actually responding to you or anyone in particular,
however if someone is claiming they are not welcome and are being forced off a platform because they are “republicans “ and then they are posting personal attacks and nasty comments towards others because they are critical of hams behaviour, they are not actually “republicans “ and are receiving criticism because of their actions.
I make it a point not to post on “ positive” ham threads because, I feel people are entitled to their own opinions, yet time and time again, the favour is not returned and I find posters seeking me out on other threads to attack me!
at no point do I then feel the need to paint myself a victim! , this is the internet, it is not a safe place for people to be babied 🤷‍♀️

BigWillyLittleTodger · 05/08/2026 12:51

Being challenged on your post is not the same as being driven off, it’s funny that the posters who complain about being “driven off” are among the most regular posters on this board, go figure 🤷🏻‍♀️

jeffgoldblum · 05/08/2026 12:53

This thread , like others before it has now become a vehicle for one set of posters to attack another set!! 🤷‍♀️

Apparently it’s on this very thread 🤷🏻‍♀️as @jeffgoldblum has said it’s being used as a platform to attack regular posters, DARVO springs to mind.

Because you are just saying the same thing repeatedly and refusing to provide any tangible detail.

This is the point where people get frustrated and start posting pigeon gifs.
