This thread is for pictures and question on the JEWELLERY Of the British Royal Family, Past and Current pieces. There may be posts about other Family’s Royal Jewels too.
It is only for discussing Jewels.
No discussions of current members of the RF, no de railing by talking about tax or ownership of certain pieces.

I am very cross that the Vladimir Tiara hasn't made an appearance since QEII died - it's definitely my favourite of the UK royal tiaras. I especially love the Julian Calder portrait of QEII wearing it in its emerald configuration with the Order of the Thistle robes.

Camilla would rock that tiara! She has a good head for jewels.

@SqueakyDinosaur We saw a large version of that photo in Edinburgh a few years ago. It is absolutely brilliant. The shades of green are just the best. The Vlad tiara was just perfect and the velvet cloak just beautiful.

I do like the Delhi Durban tiara, but that top line of wire annoys me as well. It;s one of three tiaras that I think could be much improved with some tweaks to their top lines.

The other is Sarah Ferguson’s tiara - I think the prong on top makes it look a bit juvenile and dated . It would look much nice if you removed the top brilliant and then the triangular group of three below it, and you could put the big brilliant back where the little lotus shape sits. Then you’d have a lovely scroll shaped tiara very similar to the Spencer tiara that Diana wore so much (I’ve done some rudimentary cropping of an image below to show the before and after).

The last is the Luxembourg Empire tiara. It’s such a whopper, but a bit overpowering. Again, I’d lower the central elevated element to bring it in line with the rest so the tiara has a a more harmonious shape.

A lot of people don’t like a lot of the Duchess of Windsor pieces as they are big & unusual.
I love them. But most of all I love her charm bracelets- well apart from the big gun pieces!

Here Is a great picture of The Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara.
This is how it is now and I can’t see it being changed as it’s pretty damn perfect as it is.
It’s had a few changes in its time - additions of Diamonds and Pearls as uprights along the top but Mary finally decided it was best like this. Phew! This is one I would have mourned the loss of.
Itwas wedding present to Mary in 1893, then she gave it to her granddaughter as a wedding present in 1947. Until Camilla wore it it had only graced the head of two women.
The design is special though. If you look closely you can see that it’s girls -older nd younger -holding hands. Girls of Great Britain and Ireland.
This is utter proof of jewellry as art and highly symbolic.
It’s light and easy to wear which is why QEII loved it.
Ithink it will be Catherine’s go to tiara when she is Queen.

One of my favourites is the Fife Tiara. Not sure who owns it now.

The Fife tiara is my number 1.
It’s still techically owned by the Fife Family but is on ‘long term loan’ -given to government in lieu of IHT.
It’s part of a permanent display at KP.

For those who don’t know, the large diamonds in the middle row of the Fife Tiara are set ‘en tremblant’which means they have small movement to them.
So when the wearer has it on her head and move the diamonds tremble slightly so they catch the light and flash even more.
I do feel sad that the Fife tiara may never be worn again .

I think that the Fife Fringe tiara has been removed from display a couple of times recently, to be worn at weddings of Fife family members - the wives of George and Hugh Carnegie, most recently in 2025. It apparently is also on display at KP, but is different from the one shown above?

The one above is definitely the Fife Tiara .
There are three tiaras on display from the Fife family -the Fife Fringe Tiara being one of the three along with the Fife Tiara (shown above) and Queen Victorias emerald Tiara which found its way to the Fifes via Princess Louise Duchess of Argyll daughter of QV.
I think the fringe Tiara will be the most ‘stable/strong’ out of the three which is why the Fife family borrow it for Weddings etc.

Any requests for tomorrow? Any pieces/stones that you would like to see?

I would love to see something on the royal sapphires if possible! (Long time royals lurker)

I think Queen Mary looks the best in the Girls of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. She certainly wears a tiara well

A local country house displayed the tiaras from Downton Abbey, they are quite lovely. There was an opportunity for the public to try some on - probably the mock ups. Not the nice ones in the cabinet but it was fun. Oh my giddy aunt did I look absolutely appalling in them. Youngest DD looked gorgeous in them, especially one that was dubbed a Russian.

Shan't be spending my lottery win on one if I ever win.
