Long time lurker.
I think AMW launching this challenge is going to be viewed in the same way as the no admission settlement with Virgina Guiffre. Yes, we all know it’s the procedurally done thing, but if you’ve nothing to hide, why not let them look in your house, especially when the issues in question relate to when you were a working member of the royal family.

I don’t know if it strengthens calls for a republic, but at a time when the UK’s public services are in a parlous state, to have two members of the Royal Family actively judicially reviewing public bodies, with the associated costs, certainly calls into question just how much the family do value their country. No one will say they aren’t entitled to justice, but it’s unlikely many will have sympathy for one surprised at losing a perk of the job when he quit his job, and another trying to undermine an investigation into whether he was corrupt when doing his job when the emails have been published by another justice department.

The whole point to them is an institution that promotes and values the United Kingdom. When it starts to look like they’re undermining it, that’s a time for questions.

Welcome, @mummypigoink.

Good points - and that perception, as well as the constitutional issue, is why it was important for KC3 to distance himself quickly.

simpsonthecat · 05/10/2026 21:48

I could almost think Charles reads MN because we brought this up, and hey presto a statement saying not happening!

If you give someone money, you have no control over how they spend it.

Funding not fussing

I agree, but if you are giving them money as they say they need it, then suddenly find another source of money ( own or gifted) to do something that is causing issues for oneself then I wonder why they RF/KCIII wpuld wish to keep funding them.

Andrew owes them a lot of money. As AMW appears to have been happy to sell his country and, with his associates, buy girls - I shouldn't think he cares about anyone else but himself.

ETA It seems meaningless for C3 to say he is not funding this challenge. He is paying for AMW's keep - if he dropped that and asked for his money back to pay off Virginia, what would Andrew have? And the taxpayer will be paying for the police in the hearing so he is costing the country money still.

So what in the name of Betsy does he think he will achieve here ?

I think he thinks it's a stepping stone to getting the whole lot overturned.

Then he's a bigger fool than I thought he was , and that's saying something.

I'll bet a guinea to a pint of oranges it just isn't going to happen . His Buffoon Highness ( not my phrase, allegedly used by diplomats and colleagues ) is either bored or desperate or dare I say deluded.

If ever someone with any sense would keep their head below the parapet , or indeed nowadays a fairly high garden wall , it is he.

ETA there are questions about him being given free lodgings and some security by KC. I just don't think him using up court time will go well for him. Unless he uses his time to reply to requests re the Epstein enquiry or the Met police enquiries.

BasiliskStare · 05/10/2026 23:22

Just quickly to say @wordler and @bluegreygreen - such a shame about a proper discussion about Constitutional Monarchy v a Republic. I think it could be interesting but I can easily see why it might head very quickly southwards , Ah well. 💐to you both.

@CathyorClaire - I think you know that I support a constitutional monarchy ( I'd like more scrutiny) I believe you stand on the republican side. But I hope we can discuss reasonably and agree to disagree. So your post

" If it does turn out the warrants were invalid owing to a lack of clarity over the ownership of the property and MW gets them overturned on a technicality I think it could only bolster calls for a republic. "

I absolutely agree if AMW is using esoteric rulings re what is owned by the RF , the various Duchies to overturn his arrest then poor show and one of the MIGs should help clarify.
In truth he may get this turned over on a technicality , but this is small fry compared to his being asked to testify re Epstein , misconduct in public office . So what in the name of Betsy does he think he will achieve here ? He's tinkering at the edges.

you and I must be twins. As I have been reading the posts from qualified legal posters I have been thinking (shouting in my head) why? What are you going to gain from this approach? Nothing. The public will loathe him even more.

Recklessismymiddlename · Yesterday 05:41

You all know my views on AMW. But he won’t be the first or last, to try to get his arrest set aside, on a matter of a technicality. If it is set aside, unless it was deliberate, some poor person will be in deep shit. But AMW is entitled to the same rights as everyone else.

As a solicitor I’d have been looking for all sorts of irregularities, to get my client’s arrest set aside. I managed to get an evidence set aside, when police have made mistakes, they do happen.

Puzzledandpissedoff · Yesterday 11:31

Somehow I'd missed the one about 30,000 records being sent to the Lord Chamberlain and predictably buried, but it casts an interesting light on the endles "didn't know" claims

Also predictable are the inevitable attempts to "distance" Charles from the ongoing mess. I'd wonder if he didn't realise that the obvious solution was not to have been part of the enablement in the first place, but then he's enabled so many other horrors that this hardly seems a surprise

BrandiedAromatics · Yesterday 12:00

From the front of today's Telegraph, love 'well-placed source':

Mr M-W receives an annual 6-figure stipend from the King via his private funds, which includes an allownce made for the cost of private security.

When he was arrested in Feb on suspicion of misconduct in public office, the Palace made clear that the taxpayer would not pay his legal bill. A well-placed source said at the time that if the former duke was unable to pay for his own legal representation, the financial burden would "not fall on the public purse".

The King has appeared keen to distance himself from his brother's decision to sue the police. It is understood that when the two sides discussed the matter, the Palace immediately made clear that the monarch's personal funding must not be used. The legal bill could potentially run into hundreds of thousands of pounds.

HoldMyWine · Yesterday 12:13

How will they separate out the king’s money from Andrew’s money?

simpsonthecat · Yesterday 12:25

Impossible to do. He is being financed all the way

They aren't able to, thats the excuse they always use when any wuestions get raised re. SG and the duchy etc . Its too complicated. So I agree with @simpsonthecat he is being financed all the way by Charles.

Absolutely.

I've just referenced the impeccable legal advice he had access to when he was playing cat and mouse to avoid being served civil papers on another thread.

Extradition lawyer at £1k an hour, anyone when we've since been told he was too strapped to keep RL in good repair?

They think the public have the memories of goldfish 🙄

Recklessismymiddlename · Yesterday 20:58

He’d have been advised to play cat and mouse, to make things difficult. I have advised the same at times. At others I have advised to accept service. It depends on the circumstances.

Whatever though he’s still an arse of the first order and I find I have little sympathy.

CathyorClaire · Yesterday 21:12

It's not though really a good look for a royal scion who has publicly promised on the nationally funded broadcaster to do all in his power to assist enquiries is it?

Recklessismymiddlename · Today 04:53

No it’s not, hence my second paragraph. He should have manned up and accepted his punishment.

And really even now, Attempting to get things set aside on technicalities. Yes he’s entitled to it, same as everyone else, but goodness, just accept you’ve done wrong. Take your punishment.

Whilst I am not a fan of any of them, both Camilla and Sophie do support good causes, but it is rather contradictory isn't it, given AMW's actions. Eugenie had to walk away from her anti slavery trafficking charity, quite rightly.

Don't feel sorry for Eugenie. Feel sorry for any charities she's involved with, they don't benefit much after 'expenses' are deducted from any money raised.

AnnunciataM · Today 07:01

I couldn't for the life of me understand why Sophie, who works with victims of sexual violence, was happy to holiday in Balmoral every year when Andrew was there too. I suppose her overriding loyalty was to the late Queen but I do hope she gave him the cold shoulder at dinner every night!
