I think the monetary loss is secondary for Harry (he won’t understand it, he still doesn’t understand affording things, he knows there’s still a lifeline, there are many hoops to jump through still before he’s given a final number and date to pay up and that’s all going to take months and months - it’s not foremost now).
I think for someone who’s lived with the paranoia of being chased by paparazzi, of reading truths/half-truths/mistruths about himself in the paper and being unable to reply while he was a working member of the RF, who truly believes his mother died at the tabloids’ hands, whose wife talked of not handing her child up on a platter to the media or taking them to school in front of a “present of 40” [in her dreams!] (she didn’t mean it, it was a talking point that suited her narrative at the time), for all his belief in protecting children from invasion of privacy, for all the second guessing I’m sure he’s done over decades about whether his friends or family or the MIGS betrayed him by spilling details to the press and concluding that they wouldn’t have and it must have been UIG at play - he’s going to pretty much lose his mind. He will feel like the whole world is colluding in gaslighting him, and he will feel like he doesn’t know what’s real anymore. The drugs won’t help. It’s all going to be too much. I said on another thread that I see rehab in his future and I think that’ll be more the case now. Meghan has already said she’s had enough of all this and wishes he would look forward. She just wants to make money and will have no time for his family drama or this stuff unless and until they’re of use to her and right now it’s looking like quite the opposite. He’s totally, utterly alone to stew in his paranoia. I’d be worried if I were Charles.
