"King Lear being performed at the circus"
That's a brilliant line, @DaisyDooley! 👏

I think if Charles Spencer wouldn't give Diana a cottage on the Althorp estate because of security concerns ( I think I'm right there ) I can't see why he would allow photos of her grave now for Instagram or NF purposes. I can see H wanting to visit his mother's grave tbf. I think the problem is he's made such a show of "being Diana's son" that people are sceptical as to his motives. If it were to be a private visit , not referenced in any way - fair play. But that isn't the way he rolls.

ETA Tom Sykes for those interested

Harry and Meghan's Cynical Ploys Are a Disgrace, so WHY is the King STILL Keeping the Door Open to a Meeting?
Meghan and the children will not come to London next week, the Sussex office just announced. Harry’s cynical behavior, including invoking terror threats, is disgusting.
TOM SYKES
JUL 4

PREVIEW

Prince Harry’s office announced today that Meghan and the children aren’t coming to the UK with Harry on Tuesday next week, eight days after definitively saying they were.

Of course, this being the Sussex melodrama factory, they also made a point of saying they still might come later in the week, while hinting that they still might meet the King.
I said from the beginning that Charles was mad to meet them without an apology for the false allegations of racism (subsequently walked back by Harry), as demanded by William as a precondition for any realignment of relations.
250 years? Just the other day, dear chap. Come back under the wing with a subscription to The Royalist!

Incredibly, Charles is still telegraphing a willingness to meet them, the Daily Telegraph reports.
Let me be clear. If the King agrees to honor them with an audience now, after the disgraceful way Harry and Meghan’s team have cynically tried to manipulate and blackmail the British state (including a truly revolting suggestion that Harrys lack of a police detail opened the door to terror attacks, with all the risk of mass casualties that involves), then I think he is signing the death warrant on his own legacy.
Harry and Meghan have shown us exactly how little they respect the King, the King’s staff, their own staff and the public, who have been fed a diet of misinformation, not to mention the charities this trip was supposed to be all about, who, one imagines, are a little miffed that their patron’s support attaches to such chaos...

I don’t want to sound smug but I never thought that M and the DC would come to the U.K. and the will they / won’t they re Birmingham and Althrop will simply keep them in the headlines for another week .
I have no doubt that Harry misses his family and friends , the Royal status etc but Meghan is not going to set foot anywhere near the Royal family unless there’s something in it for her . If there’s no opportunity for photos or footage for NF , why would she come ? She already has the title , mansion , money ( KC will never see them destitute) and is mother to a Prince and Princess.
Why on earth would she put herself in the situation of being compared to Catherine or being reminded that she will always walk behind her? That is not Meghan’s style at all !!
Given that Charles Spencer warned Harry against marrying Meghan why would she want to be anywhere near him ?

It’s been entertaining to follow this highly manufactured drama but did anyone think for a second they would come? They’ve achieved what they set out for, column inches when they have literally nothing else to offer.

I’m intrigued though by this quote from Victoria Ward, deputy royal editor for the Telegraph, speaking on the Daily T podcast:

”the King is in relatively regular touch with Harry. They email, they do speak on the phone. Their relationship is relatively good on a personal level, father and son, at the moment.”

I don’t know how I feel about this, if true. Reconciliation between the two of them is a private matter. If it makes Charles happy to capitulate to Harry, that’s his business. He’ll be waiting a long time for a reciprocal apology, or any acknowledgment of fault, that’s for sure.

But I hope C isn’t thinking beyond that. Not one penny of public money should go on rewarding Harry and Meghan Markle for their conduct.

The Victoria Ward narrative of a close relationship has been a Sussex narrative for many years - Harry talking about zoom calls with the kids etc

Whereas the journalists with closer relationships with KC have claimed that while Harry calls a lot - there are no direct contacts and that Harry has to call their offices as he no longer has their private phone numbers.

I think it would be CS's absolute nightmare. He'd likely ban photography. However, the Sussexes are so devious, they could probably manage it.

It's how he'd stop them taking a phone with them. He can hardly have Meghan searched to find her secret phone. He could have them accompanied at all times but Harry might well kick off about wanting alone time at his mother's grave. Don't envy Charles Spencer dealing with that one.
@DaisyDooley I have the same feeling as you about this. Not that we'll probably ever know.

I cannot imagine any conversation beyond “ how are the children?” “ what’s the weather like?” type questions.

@LundeIt’s odd though isn’t it? Who is pushing that narrative?

I really hope Tuesday doesn't go his way or we'll have some deranged, word salad speech about slaying dragons

We'll probably get a ridiculous speech anyway, @Starryfifty, but slightly different according to what thhe judgement is

She basically never supports anything he does. She turns up at the IG because she gets to strut and pretend she's at Cannes rather than some draughty sports stadium. But she never supports his activities and only speaks about how much he loves her, not the other way round

Completely agree, @IcedPurple; even with her own husband she can't quite bring herself to say or do anything which centres him rather than herself, which in all fairness can't be easy for him in his isolation

What legacy, @BasiliskStare? Yes he made a decent fist of the US visit, using a speech someone else would have written, but that apart I honestly struggle to think of much that's gone right since he took over

Totally agree, I was always on that side of the fence, and the drivel about them coming to Brum is just that. Weren't we going to eat someone's hat? Was that if they did come or if they didn't? My noddle is confused! 👒

Ok. First thing first.
“Bitter fish to fry” is now logged in my menopausal brain to use asap and get int9 my vocabulary-thanks @AnAutumnCrow .
In the Telegraph piece (posted earlier ) the line that struck me was the ‘longed for reunion’. Who is longing for it? I really really don’t think it’s the King.
I don’t think he has time or the emotional energy to give to the Harry debacle. I expect most time is spent rolling his eyes and thinking ‘for fucks sake’.
He is busy doing all the King/head of state malarky, being a husband, Duke of Lancaster stuff, seeing William , Catherine, the children, Camilla’s children & grandchildren, his extended family, friends, time reading/painting/gardening, travelling, cancer treatment etc.
He’s not sat around bemoaning the loss of Harry and Harry’s children who he does not know.
The King does not need Harry and the endless drama he brings with his incessant complaining. It’s like an endless version of King Lear being performed at the circus. “How sharper than a serpents tooth it is to have a thankless child”. I feel so sorry for the King.
Well done to everyone who called it right that Meg and the kids wouldn’t be coming. I’ll look forward to this thread tonight which I will read while I have LadyC or Kinsey chatting in the background, glass of wine & some kettle crisps!

Does it count if they do come to The Midlands? Or sneak in sneak out and photo dump later? I am hanging on to my DairyLea triangles for now…..

I think it is essential to the Sussex brand that they are perceived as having royal access and connections.

They have a long tradition of attempting to "manifest" their wants by dropping it into the ear of a friendly journalist and hoping that the invitation (or whatever) will materialise.

We can add it to the list of
Presenting an Oscar (had to hastily arrange the 2 day Moroccan tour to cover the £90,000 she'd spent on that Dior abomination?)
Obama 60th party - not invited
Meghan's 40th Party - idea dropped and replaced with that mocking tea video
40x40 - flopped and never spoken of again
Christmas with the royals at Sandringham/Earl Spencer at Althorp
Met Gala
Face of Dior
A list actress
Bezos wedding
Duke of Westminster wedding
Trooping the Colour
Lunch with Michelle Obama
Oscars after parties - Vanity Fair/Elton John
Meghan to get Dianne Feinstein's Senate seat
Meghan at the Coronation (she even added it to her IMDB page as a "forthcoming appearance in a TV special 😂" ... the Queen's funeral is still on her IMDB)
etc etc

Actually I don't think KC is doing as badly as everyone predicted. Honestly I don't - but opinions will differ.

I hate to sound grim but this was most likely the absolute last chance for those kids to meet KC. He's an elderly man battling cancer. He's not long for this world. What mileage does a few images of Meghan and kids wailing at Diana's grave have ?

I think the DCs will come or are already here - but KC3s conditions are that this is personal, private and no mention of the event or contents of the event before or after are to be made public. That won’t suit H&Ms commercial strategy - so they may choose not to bother - or they may have some empathy for their DCs to meet family just for families sake - although they have done the exact opposite of this with every other family member thus far bar Doria (even that’s questionable) - so who knows.

Nope. Of no commercial value if a visit between children and KC cannot be merched. Therefore it won't happen

Recklessismymiddlename · Yesterday 17:52

Depends whether there £££ involved

HurrahforHollywood · Yesterday 17:57

Even if KC does meet the children he won't be able to build any sort of relationship with them. They won't remember him. Their mother is someone the whole family despises. It's not much of a look out really.

Passingthrough123 · Yesterday 17:58

I don't see how any of them can visit the King now. They've messed him around so much that I wouldn't be at all surprised if his calendar is full now. I know mine would be.
