Nobody seems to know for sure. Why should we care. Maybe he doesn't even know himself yet. He can't seem to do anything without attracting lots of press articles.

Well, there's a new addition to the drama, and I think this a bit of a PR fumble from Buckingham Palace. Saying: ah you didn't reply in time, so now this offer has been 'withdrawn' is petty. If you don't see him as just another guest but as the son of the man who is supposed to live there and who had invited him, then you don't 'withdraw' that invitation. This will add to his sense of grievance and will make people think that this is all part of the vendetta of the men in grey suits.
This will now spiral: if he can't stay at Buckingham Palace with the kids he's not guaranteed security within it. So then Meghan and the kids can't come (if they were ever coming at all).

I think they thought they had found a loophole to try and limit the psychodrama (he hasn't replied in time so we've rescinded the offer) but I think they've inflamed it in a way where the public will feel a bit sorry for Harry.

What they should have done is say: come any time, we'll make up a couple of bedrooms for you and the family. You'll be safe here. But can you get a photo op with your dad at short notice? NOPE. Can you bring cameras in? Bigger nope. There was a way to 'win' this for Buckingham Palace and I think they've fumbled slightly.

I doubt it's 'petty' for the staff who would have to prepare the lodgings and secure the building. Harry is very concerned about security yes? It's not just a case of changing the bed linen and putting out a few extra towels in the en suite. And even then it would be expected you'd give notice.

Harry and his wife are basically unemployed and there was no reason they could not give the required notice. The world does not revolve around them so if they can't be arsed to act like grown ups, then they'll have to make their own arrangements.

PotolKimchi · 06/07/2026 12:29

Listen, I'm sympathetic to all of your views @IcedPurple , @TheRealMagic @jeffgoldblum! I'm just concerned that this is not how this will be more widely read. I think it's the right thing to do on paper, I think in terms of optics it's possibly given him an 'out' when the whole world was rolling his eyes at him. So far the RF has met every tantrum with grey rock and grace, and I think that was the way to go. Yes, yes please come. No no we can't interfere with RAVEC. No you can't have photos with your Dad for Netflix what with him being king and all. But yes, you and your family can be super secure in BP for this trip. But if she's having lunch with mates, no sorry the tax payer isn't paying for that security. But if you want your wife and kids to come here, sure, the doors are open.

I think this is how it SHOULD have been played, and how I think they were playing it so far till today. We'll see! It'll just start another round of tedious tantrums from Harry and entrench his delusions and conspiracy theories even further.

I don't understand.

What exactly has changed today? Harry was offered accommodation for himself and his family but he didn't give the required notice. Why should he be indulged? Where does it end?

He's going to bitch and moan no matter what, but it's a case of diminishing returns. As for how it is seen 'more widely' I very much doubt anyone outside of Britain gives a toss about where the 5th in line to the British throne is going to lay his Friar Tuck head.

Thegoodkindofhomeless · 06/07/2026 12:33

I think it also was due to the offer of Buckingham palace was for Harry Meghan and the kids - because I do think King Charles would like to see the children…but the will they come, won’t they, dramas around security, media circus with Sussex headlines and the inevitable “only Harry is coming” of course the offer was withdrawn. Harry doesn’t need a palace. Harry has stayed at hotels on his previous solo visits, why wouldn’t he do so again?

BasiliskStare · 06/07/2026 12:37

H may have made himself a few friends though , ie anyone who was told "H won't be staying at BP - so you won't needed on Monday" and who wanted to watch the football.

Didn't it cross H's mind that as well as buggering about his father , his father's staff , BP staff and anyone else involved in the arrangements for his stay , it's pretty disrespectful to Invictus , Scotty's Little soldiers , Wellchild etc , that although these appointments have been in H's diary for goodness knows how long , he couldn't make sure he had his accommodation arrangements sorted out well before the weekend? *

*That was a rhetorical question and I use the word "mind" loosely.

BillyBites · 06/07/2026 12:43

I’ve just pointed out on the other thread that Buckingham Palace opens to the general public later this week. Dunno if that’s got anything to do with anything.

PotolKimchi · 06/07/2026 12:43

Although if this is to be believed @IcedPurple and that he found the accommodation 'unsuitable', declined it, and then changed his mind, then BP should be leading with that: https://archive.is/oZ412
What a tedious man-child he is.
Interestingly every time he has a familial tantrum, Meghan disappears or posts some wafty shots of her in the garden.

The most bizarre part of is that this whole thing is NOT for the actual Invictus Games' but for a countdown to it.
Also the way he's managed to make it all about himself rather than the cause he's supposed to be supporting is absurd.

I think perhaps he's realising that perhaps his 'exile' from the RF is a lot more permanent than he first envisaged and with obvious money problems (that house in Montecito has never been renovated for e.g- as someone who has lived a majority of her adult life in America, I am aware of how much importance they place on renovating after purchase even when it is seemingly absolutely fine!), the loss of all their contracts, nothing to show that disses the RF (that bit was all very successful) other than a mid level jam venture and some quasi royal appearances that are badly attended (Geneva, Australia), he must know that he needs to get back 'in' before William becomes King.

I was skeptical that this was the narrative, but the events of this month I think has made it clear that Harry is desperate to be back with the RF and to be seen to be an insider, whether for financial or emotional reasons.

Why would Buckingham Palace offer accommodation or Harry even consider it when it opens to the general public this week?

Arjan · 06/07/2026 12:48

I think Harry was playing games and he set them up!

He formally turned down the offer on Saturday morning having ignored the offer all week. He then later changed his mind and said he would stay there, what circumstances changed for him?

Why announce on Monday morning he had accepted the offer to stay and give the impresssion he was staying there, he would have already known he was not staying there.

IceLollly · 06/07/2026 12:50

I doubt he comes alone. It’s not just one man and one bed. I wonder if part of the process is doing security checks on those that would also be staying.

Yes. I think some people on here have no idea. They imagine it's just a case of making up a bed!

Why would Buckingham Palace offer accommodation or Harry even consider it when it opens to the general public this week?

Because it's the private apartments, not the area open to the public.

He’s not terribly bright, but is egotistical!

That's a very good point. If he's bringing his own private 'security team' they in turn would need to go through background checks if they're going to be staying in the official residence of the King. Even Friday would have been cutting it fine, I would think.

BasiliskStare · 06/07/2026 13:07

@IcedPurple @IceLollly - it is a good point about background checks , and I agree even Friday would be cutting it fine , but that just goes to show ( to me ) by giving the Friday deadline they were going out of their way to accommodate him ( in more than one sense of the word)

Well yes but I can’t imagine Harry wanting to look out of his window in the morning and see/hear Joe Public milling around the grounds.

He needn’t worry about it now!

IAmATorturedPoet · 06/07/2026 13:34

Could It be that Harry had a rethink and decided that, actually, the optics might look good for the US market. I can see him being quite happy to be seen sweeping into BP with his entourage (and a conveniently placed photographer).

Rhaidimiddim · 06/07/2026 13:42

BigWillyLittleTodger · 06/07/2026 10:46

I think the Palace have played a blinder, no one with half a brain will feel sorry for Harry, we have seen his attempts of manipulation play out in real time, no one is fooled. The Palace is not a family home that can “leave a couple of bedrooms” made up for Harry to rock up when he feels like it. Staff have to be rostered on, security deployed. It’s not there for the convenience of Prince Harry when he feels he needs his ego stroked. I think public sympathy will be with the King, Harry’s manipulations have been exposed and it isn’t looking good on him at all.

It will also set the precedent that accommodation will be made available but you need to accept by the date we provide. All that was required of him here was to show basic good manners and respect for his host and BP staff. (Oh, and to shut up about BP being inadequate.)

I doubt it will stop H doing the dame daft thing next tine he's over, though.

They denied the Queen her request which perfectly evidences the fact they have no sway

The queen was 96 and months from death.

Charles was running show - had been for years no doubt .

That's irrelevant. A letter from the monarch held no sway.

Ukisgaslit · 06/07/2026 13:55

So Harry did accept the Charles offer and then Charles rescinded the offer.

How childish and cruel .The excuse - sorry - reason given was because of the verdict being due in the court case Harry is part of.

They tell on themselves those people . Christ so much for soft power .
All they have done is show the world what petty bitches they are .
