Diana’s dress always makes me think of Kristin Scott Thomas in Four Weddings

”Scarlet, you’re blind, she looks like a meringue”

But I still love Diana’s dress. It was perfect for her

StrawberryWasp · 07/06/2026 15:55

Eugenie looked radiant on her wedding day too

Her dress was exquisite with the folds in the fabric so perfectly placed. It looked like a McQueen creation (not sure if it was?)

Her tiara was also gorgeous.
And no veil worked beautifully for the dress and tiara.

She just looked like the most beautiful version of herself.
I loved her evening dress too.

I loved Lady Helen Taylor’s wedding dress.

Agree with this. It hardly ever gets mentioned but I think it was so unusual. Of course it looks a bit dated now but I loved it.

Also loved Sarah Chattos and Eugenies ( I do love the origami look)

Kate - meh . I liked the skirt but hate close fitting lace
Meghan.. boring . Although I did like the white/blueness of it in the sunshine

Loved Charlene’s dress

I bought a book in a charity shop about Diana and Fergie’s style. I think it’s called Royal Style Wars (!) anyway, I’d say by today’s standards Fergie’s outfits were often better. But she didn’t have Diana’s height, slimness or charisma (or budget). Diana had a heck of a lot of style ‘misses’ that are often forgotten.

The interestinf thing with this is that Fergie back then often borrowed some of Dianas outfits so size wise.they most of been very similar but Fergie was seen as the chubby one.

I agre Diana has fails. As someone old enough to recall them both as active royals.

Lifelover16 · 07/06/2026 16:08

I think Eugenie’s dress was fabulous, she looked wonderful.
Soohies didn’t fit her on the shoulders and the necklace looked like something from Debenhams.
Kates was obviously beautifully made but quite boring. Oddly pointy boobs.
Diana’s looked like a duvet.

I was 10 at the time and hated Diana's dress. It just seemed like so much fabric and flounce that I couldn't actually see the dress.

I also thought Diana didn't look very special herself on the day. She just looked the same as she always looked but in a ball of crumpled silk.

Young me adored Fergie's dress though. It had that fitted bodice with a full skirt that felt princessy to me. It was also shiny and twinkly. Fergie also radiant and so happy. She seemed like the princess bride I'd imagined in the 1980s.

I said similar here before about Diana. By today’s standards her hair and makeup were extremely understated. You could argue she was so young and fresh, why not though.
I’ve noticed that Beatrice seems to have an ‘occasion uniform’; high necklines with pleating, long sleeves, often a midi length dress in a print, topped with those massive Alice band hat things.

Here’s a nice collection of royal wedding looks

https://www.townandcountrymag.com/society/tradition/g71472663/best-royal-wedding-dresses-photos/

Queen Noor’s is lovely.

I still like Marie-Chantal’s Valentino, too.

Some I’d expect to be more stylish - Letizia of Spain, Rania of Jordan, Lady Helen Taylor.

Loved browsing this, thank you for posting.
Eugenie’s is my favourite.
Queen Soraya of Iran -wow!!! Most extravagant in every way.

I agree.

Her daughter in law looked stunning however. Although it's kind of obvious that the sleeves were added on to an originally one shouldered design, for modesty purposes!

My personal list

Best tiara-P Margaret in the Poltimore

Worst tiara- poor Sophie's with insufficient gems and the frame on show.

Best dress- tie between Eugenie and Camilla's blessing outfit. I loved that Eugenie had a deliberately low back and missing out a veil really gave the dress a chance to shine properly. Camilla's was perfect and she looked lovely. Very honourable mention to Sarah Chatto and also her bold choice for her bridesmaids who looked fantastic. I'd also forgotten how great Anne looked in hers.

Worst dress-haven't really got a standout. Not especially keen on the one from yesterday, Harriet is a beautiful woman with a great figure but the whole white lace/train/ veil combo is IMO strangely ageing/unflattering on older women. It's probably unfair but I think it's because we are still conditioned to associate it with youth.

Best evening outfit-Meghan.

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 07/06/2026 17:09

Mary Donaldson’s dress is absolutely divine.
Everything about it is just perfect for her.

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 07/06/2026 17:12

There was something not quite right about Princess Catherine’s dress. I so wanted to love it but didn’t.
I think it is the bust area.

Lampzade · 07/06/2026 17:17

Most beautiful was Sarah Chatto, I actually used her dress as an inspiration for my own wedding dress
Loved the Queen and Princess Margaret wedding dresses
.I also loved Beatrice’s dress

Thought Meghan’s dress was beautiful but ill fitting .

Didnt like Princess Diana’s dress
Was underwhelmed by Kate’s dress
Didbt like Zara’s dress

Edited

If you've got that sort of lighting, it doesn't matter what you are wearing as long as it is vaguely white and wedding-y. I thought that was a magical moment along with the ethereal music.

BasiliskStare · 07/06/2026 17:54

I loved Sarah Chattos and I've never seen that photo with all the bridesmaids like that - it's lovely.

Seagullsandsausagerolls · 07/06/2026 18:06

I preferred Kate's evening dress to her main dress as there was something not quite right about the bust darts, imo, they gave a Madonna Vogue impression.

My personal favourite would have been Sarah Chatto's dress.

I wonder what Diana, Sarah, Kate and Meghan would have worn as their own choices and not constrained by Royal protocol?

I also loved Eugenie's dress, loved that she showed her scar, I also showed mine at my wedding back in 2002.

PinkMagpie · 07/06/2026 18:07

My favourite wedding dress of all time. Not technically royal, but American royalty. Carolyn Bessette Kennedy

@PinkMagpie Have you seen Love Story? It’s great and captures her style perfectly

PinkMagpie · 07/06/2026 19:28

@Sidebeforeself yes I loved it! Have to say I was very skeptical ahead of time and thought it would be a load of schlock. It was but I loved it anyway 🤣 agree that they really capture Carolyn and her magic

BasiliskStare · 07/06/2026 20:15

@SisterTeatime - thank you for that link. If anyone out-pointy-bodiced Catherine it was Princess Beatrix ( although it looks like a very lovely dress.) .

I have to say I did like Meghan's wedding dress , but I like simple outlines. I think the problem was the fabric appeared a little stiff , I wonder if something a bit more forgiving would have made it look like it fitted better (or maybe it just didn't fit 😊)

I still love Princess Anne's dress at her first wedding and bizarrely although it is of its time it seems to have stood the test of time better than a lot.

Oh and @IcedPurple , if you like Bianca Jagger at all - did you like Jemima Goldsmith's to Imran Khan - not trousers but long skirt suit. Sorry I can't find an easily postable photo - this one might work but only back view

I think Sarah Chatto is up there with the best of them though for a big wedding.
And Camilla.

I vaguely remember her wedding look from back in the day. Extremely attractive couple and I think that outfit was very 'her'.

”Scarlet, you’re blind, she looks like a meringue”

But I still love Diana’s dress. It was perfect for her

That quote killed the big-skirted wedding dress dead.
I got married in the very late 80s (a few years before FWAAF) and had a Fergie-style bow slapped on my bum and a massive hooped petticoat under my dress.

SleepyLittleDoggo · 07/06/2026 21:53

PinkMagpie · 07/06/2026 15:31

I think Kate’s really became more than the sum of its parts. It became about how she wore it and she just looks stunning

The pointy boobs completely ruined it. I don’t understand how they didn’t make it less pointy/madonna like. The designer, Kate, her mum, sister, why didn’t someone say it didn’t look good to have point cone tits? 😅

Indianrollerbird · 07/06/2026 22:05

Princess Angela of Lichtenstein was perfection.

Meghan, in a similar dress, looked a mess. I remember feeling really disappointed when she stepped out of the car.

I didn’t like Catherine’s bodice (I was also put off by the pointy boobs), but the skirt and lace sleeves were gorgeous.

Princess Anne looked incredible, as did Sarah Chatto. Anne was a proper 70s quirky beauty.

Sophie’s was a bit too medieval princess for my tastes.

Fergie looked vulgar. Shiny and gurning.

Diana looked like she’d fallen into her dress and was drowning. My SIL had a replica dress for her late 80s wedding, and it remains the subject of family mirth to this day.

This is very chic. I like the bateau neckline and 3/4 length sleeves in the bright white satin
