I hope that her activities may eventually help shame/encourage the govt into reinstating some version of Sure Start, which I genuinely believe was one of the best things the Blair govt did.

Has she ever presented how she invested in other women ?

I suppose she means she wrote a letter to Proctor & Gamble to remind them that not only women can use their dish soap. Hmm

I agree that the early years agenda feels a bit vague. But saying that she does appear to genuinely have an affinity for young children, so it doesn't feel manufactured, and I think if she continues to stick with it people will come to feel it's very genuine and admire her commitment.

I think long term commitment for low key causes and consistent duty to that cause is what people most respect royals for over time.

I think the princes trust and camillas domestic violence agendas have built respect for them over decades.

Harry thinks Invictus is his thing to achieve this. But unfortunately it's become too showy and focused on his and Megs needs so it's lost that quiet commitment royals get respect for.

Most of the royal news is fashion and gossip and transitory. It's a long game of quiet duty that wins the day.

I agree the agenda feels vague but I think that is partly because it isn't readily summarised in easy soundbites (other than the obviously dismissive 'She's telling people to go and hug trees').

I do think, in years to come, it will stand alongside the King's Trust as a work that has significant effect.

Others have said what they have seen that they feel is useful. To me, the emphasis in the latest publication on what can be done to help those children who have 'latent vulnerabilities' is important; I see these children daily in my work.

The Royal Foundation's ability to bring together multinationals like Deloitte to give commitments, coordinate over 20 further/higher education establishments, and fund research in the area (the technoference work will be interesting) means that she can have impact where others may not.

She wrote a letter about washing-up liquid in the 1990s......

Bigcat25 · 13/05/2026 19:07

She wore some Outland jeans years ago, an org that helps women escape modern slavery. She was bragging in one of her interviews (maybe Emma Grege?) about how her wearing a piece of clothing helped thousands of women (iirc). Both her and Harry are delusional regarding their charitable impact and don't acknowledge the contributes of others who do the day in day out work.

Another example is their spokesperson's recent comment about visiting a charity to raise awareness in Aus - an obxious "They don't have to do that." No they don't, but then M couldn't sell her clothes and H couldn't self agrandize himself. I doubt their visits generate much or any donations.

I found the merching of clothes at their events without even apparantly making a donation quite shocking and bleak. It would be even if they did donate generously.

Bigcat25 · 13/05/2026 19:15

She never mentions she was merely one of thousands to complain about the ad. Of course she had it removed single handedly!

I also suspect that for a large number of people what seems obvious to some isn't.

I think her Early Years work has the capacity to be a bit like Charles banging on about the environment for decades. Something that needs a lot of time and momentum behind it to bring actual change rather than just politicians saying it's a good thing.

She visited the Hope Street facility supported by Lady Edwina Grosvenor a few years back.

Archive doesn’t seem to work for me any more , but I think this was the interview I read with Lady Edwina. She has impressive credentials and iirc she largely (or totally?) funds Hope Street from her personal fortune.

Yes I agree. Our niece is a reception teacher, and regularly has children coming in who have never had the "obvious" experiences/interactions some of us take for granted - and it shows in their verbal/dexterity skills and their ability to socialise and adapt. I think Charles is now seen as a world leader, and one of the OG advocates on environmental responsibility (after years of ridicule as a tree hugger); and I am sure I have read that Catherine is considered in that way as well by academics and social policy leaders. I'm glad she has stuck to it, despite the ridicule aimed in her direction.

Yes @noonames That another classic example of her narcissism. She caertainly hasn't spent her whole life doing that, maybe since getting married she's made some small investments, but she has an ownership stake so that could also be considered investing in herself. She makes herself sound deprieved and selfless, and as if she hasn't been living to a very high standard since she got the job on suits.

Reminds me years ago about her purchase of a piece of jewellery she bought and had engraved "from Me to Me," or maybe it was "From Meghan to Meghan."

Meghan told Hello! Canada about this herself in 2015:

I’ve always coveted the Cartier French Tank Watch,” she told Hello! magazine in 2015. “When I found out Suits had been picked up for our third season - which, at the time, felt like such a milestone - I totally splurged and bought the two-tone version. I had it engraved on the back, ‘To M.M. From M.M.’ and I plan to give it to my daughter one day.

Is that the watch she wears all the time - often cited as being Diana's watch?

Indianrollerbird · 13/05/2026 20:24

She also wears Trevor's bracelet and has had her engagement ring from Harry reworked to look like the one Trevor gave her.

The one she wears all the time is gold , not two tone and apparently was Diana's. It's not the watch she bought for herself

I remember in their engagement interview, it was obvious she didn’t like her ring. It actually wasn’t very nice but H’s heart was clearly in the right place in choosing it and she should have just appreciated that.

Indianrollerbird · 13/05/2026 20:22

No - that is different. The two-tone is mostly silver-coloured metal with gold highlights (it retailed at the time for about USD 6000 - which I think is interesting in the context of people positioning Meghan as a multi-millionaire off the back of her Suits earnings. Someone earning many hundreds of thousands a year would not regard a $6k watch as a “total splurge” I don’t think?). Diana’s watch was all-gold, and yes Meghan does now wear an all-gold Cartier.

You can see the difference here:

There are so many charities that need investigating.

Sadly investigative journalism is dead, sacrificed for clicks.

Indianrollerbird · 13/05/2026 20:42

Ah, thank you for the watch info @Serenster and @BasiliskStare . Interesting that she'd rather wear Diana's watch than the one she proudly bought with her own earnings. Such a good feminist!

Serenster · 13/05/2026 20:52

Yes, I wonder which watch Lilibet Diana will now recieve?

This is the only time I’ve felt a teeny tiny bit of sympathy for Meghan, having to pretend she liked that god awful engagement ring! 😂
