The sources from Netflix have had to be approved, they have a company ‘transparency’ policy where you cannot criticise anyone or anything secretly, it has to be out in the open. Half of their marketing management team were fired a few years ago for bitching amongst themselves about their bosses and the company’s marketing strategy

I didn't know that, @Thedom, but really like it - as in if you've got something to say then say it openly if it bears scrutiny

As for the Penguin Random House deal, even I realise it's not just a matter of printing books and scooping up the $$$, but how could they possibly have lost money on one which was supposed to be the fastest selling thing ever? Confused

Well if he was already paid $20m, the book would have to earn enough profit to pay that, plus all the printing, marketing, design, proofreading, ghost writer, legal fees etc etc. Very quick google says it sold 6m copies by 2024, and I wouldn't have thought it's sold that much more since then. Which means over $3 of profit from each copy is swallowed up by his $20m, before they even start paying off the publishing costs.

Whatever AI is writing Boris Johnson's column ought to be ashamed of itself. It's hard to believe this Billy Bunteresque twaddler was once PM.

6 (!) comments in the Mail at the time I archived it so maybe his "come home Harry" message isn't resonating.

Because they counted the amount that were ordered by bookshops and booksellers as actual sales.

I will also add that the publishing world is just as cut throat and filled with pr spin as every other industry now !
critics are payed and happily endorse books they have not read , every notable new release has “ the times bestseller “ on its cover, nobody asks the pertinent questions, such as how can a book that is brand new and not released yet already be the times bestseller?

What the fresh hell is this?
one unpopular buffoon trying to improve the image of another unpopular buffoon!!! 🙄

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/03/2026 19:00

Thanks, @jeffgoldblum and @OtherS, and I get that how much PRH made would have depended on how much they paid H&M in the first place

AFAIK the amount's never been confirmed, but if it really was $20 million I also get the maths and that the publisher must have been insane

Sorry to interrupt!! Sad news. Chuck Norris has died! 86 😢

Also Dame Jenni Murray who died in the 12th of March but the family has just announced it now.

StrawberryWasp · 20/03/2026 19:31

Why hasn't Meghan written her own tell all book? About her experience of joining the RF? and how it all went wrong?
People are also interested in her background, she could do an autobiogrpahy. She could tell the fairy liquid story again 😂

It seems like an obvious way to make money. Why hasn't she? Will she?

I hadn't thought of this, but I think you're quite right... why hasn't she?

It would probably sell pretty well. And there aren't many bridges left to burn at this point. She could slag off all her own family members as well! Lots of ways to bulk up that word count.

TBF it was hard to believe Boris was PM when he actually was.

I will admit I quite enjoyed the Wodehouseian style of that article though.

Justdancevance · 20/03/2026 19:52

She is an author, but the bench was so terrible. It showed she refused all editorial help, and thinks she’s a literary genius.

i love the idea of her walking out of meeting with her editor when someone tells her she’s forgotten a full stop.

How sad 😢, I feel like so many people from my youth have died recently.

If the Vanity Fair January 2025 article is anything to go by, she’s keeping it in reserve for after the divorce 🫣

Isn’t this the lady whose daughter very sadly passed away and mum went on to set up a charity in her honour? I seem to recall there was an event a couple of years ago Meghan also went to.

It was her son but yes.

Or until her dad dies.

Rhaidimiddim · 20/03/2026 20:14

Or until her dad dies.

Yes, there is speculation about what memories she will spill about her father once he is no longer around to declare “memories may vary”.

As regards a divorce book - presumably the legal process means she will have to wait until it is all done and dusted. The press will have followed every step of the case, with no doubt allegations and counter allegations from both sides. How much new content can she put in any book? There will be ramifications.

ThePoshUns · 20/03/2026 21:07

Yes I think she is either holding out for her father to die ( I was abused) or for a divorce ( I was abused) to write her biography. Whichever it will be Meghan the victim. As ever.

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 20/03/2026 21:26

But even then, how much would it be worth?

ThePoshUns · 20/03/2026 21:47

Not a lot I’d have thought. We’ve heard it all already 🤷‍♀️

Sarandos was warned not to strike Sussex deal

https://archive.is/j4Ac7

Having ten top executives distancing themselves from the H&M deals shows just how bad Netflix losses were!

Insiders are distancing themselves to save their jobs leaving Ted to face the music alone. And this on the heels of Ted losing the Paramount deal with its priceless IP (Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, Mission Impossible, Harry Potter and so much more).

IMHO Ted is toast.

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 20/03/2026 23:27

I didn't know that Netflix had lost the Paramount deal- must have missed that!

Netflix was outbid by Paramount for Warner Brothers. Sorry for the confusion!

Netflix's Ted Sarandos Shifts Focus to Europe After Failed WB Deal

Think I read that Warner wanted their films to be available at cinemas and not on a streaming service so possibly can't lay this loss at Ted's door.
