It’s the drama Mick! Yes so true. And Camilla, Charles’ one true love. Hilarious. May have to watch an episode later 😁

There are still a significant number of posters on this very forum who still use Harry’s own words and book as “evidence “ of wrongdoing by the RF ! Only the other day “the sausage “ scandal was used as evidence that all royal children apart from the heir have been mistreated! 🤷‍♀️

That thread was hilarious, so many of posters getting really upset at William and Harry not being treated exactly the same, all children should be treated EXACTLY the same, the older, taller, stronger brother shouldn’t get an extra sausage because it causes trauma don’t you know for poor little Harry, let William starve so Harry doesn’t get hurty feels 😂

I remember that, in fact I’ll admit to thinking about it quite often because I used to love seeing my granny and grandad laughing at it.

I think I was on that thread - and you know I am no Harry apologist but I do think Harry will have a general point re being treated differently.

The sausages example was a silly one - but I think Harry's brain is all over the place and has hung onto stuff like that as representative of how he was feeling about being treated slightly differently.

The issue is he didn't have the temperament to get over it on his own and no one was helping him with that.

The big comparison is Anne - and I really wish I could find the clip online because her tone and expression say everything - who talked in a documentary about how the senior nanny was very focused on pampering Charles and was very harsh with little Anne. She gave a very wry expression and said something like "well that's just how it is" or something like that.

She lived with the inequality of being the spare and then pushed further away from the top spot by her younger brothers but hasn't let it define her life or take up space in her brain.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 02/04/2026 21:09

You can’t really compare Harry to Anne, firstly she was brought up in the 50’s the parenting style and how nannies would treat royal children would be markedly different to how Harry and William were raised. Tiggy Legge-Bourke was Harry and William’s nanny for six years, Harry is close to her to this day, this from the Telegraph, so I don’t agree no one was helping him, just because Anne was treated that way doesn’t mean it was the same for Harry.

Tiggy Legge-Bourke (now Pettifer) was incredibly close to Prince Harry and Prince William. As their nanny between 1993 and 1999, she was a maternal figure who provided crucial emotional support following Princess Diana's death. She was seen as a "big sister" figure, and the bond remained strong, with Harry naming her as one of his son Archie's godmothers.
Key Details of Their Relationship:

  • "My Babies": She affectionately referred to William and Harry as her "babies" and was a constant support during their parents' divorce and the death of Princess Diana.
  • Close Bond: Harry and William were frequent guests at her wedding in 1999, and they maintained a close relationship, with the princes attending her events, such as the Sandhurst passing-out ceremony.
  • Godparents: The relationship was reciprocal; she is a godmother to Prince Harry’s son, Archie, while she and her husband chose Prince Harry and Prince William to be godfathers to their own children.
  • A "Warm" Figure: She was known for her relaxed, nurturing approach, often taking them on trips and providing a stable, loving environment.
  • Wedding Guest: She was a guest at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding in 2018.
Despite the challenges within the Royal Family at the time, Legge-Bourke was viewed as a crucial, trusted, and comforting presence in Harry's life.

It is complex in family businesses. Ideally all siblings can follow their interests, whatever the assumptions. In reality it doesn't work like that.

Decades ago my primary school BFF was the daughter of farmers. She had an older brother, who was being lined up to inherit. Neither had much choice, both situations had positives and negatives

Baital · 02/04/2026 21:21

I was the younger child, endlessly resentful of having an earlier bedtime, pocket money increased by age not the same as older DB.

Then I had to deal with younger DD's resentment about older DD having more.

The great day arrived when younger DD could have 2 eggs at breakfast, instead of one.

She couldn't finish them 😂 she couldn't eat two eggs because she was too small 😂

There's nothing like becoming a parent to realising why your own parents did what they did...

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 02/04/2026 21:28

What Harry seems to be incapable of doing is, as an adult, appreciating that his brother had a different future but also, crucially, failing to realise when he (Harry) was well off. He seems to have become so eaten up with envy because of his terrible choice of wife that he didn't think about his own place on the Royal Gravy Train. He had somewhere to live, something purposeful to do, no money worries, popularity with the general public, loving family connections and the opportunity to do whatever he wanted with his life, within reason. He's just such a fool I don't know where to even begin. My Exasperation-o-Meter is practically off the scale. What a stupid, stupid man, to chuck it all in because his wife wanted to make billions rather than just live comfortably with massive wealth. It's a hell of a thing to throw away, just because your spouse thinks she's too grand to eat breakfast cereal out of Tupperware and wear tights.

I love how the writer happens to know that the Hermes scarf she is wearing is ‘a gift from Harry’ , one would think they had been given that information by MM herself. So transparent.

He should have realised she was completely unsuited to being a Royal wife. That was his big mistake.

I watched that programme on lip reading the Royals recently. It was a terrible programme, but what struck me is that Charles , William and Harry all have the same petulant, spoilt , whiny and self absorbed personality. Kate came across as cheerful, positive and self aware. I think if you are brought up in that life and know nothing else it must really create very odd creatures who are unable to relate really to the concerns of ordinary people. They cannot in truth have any real perspective on their lives and how fortunate they are. They’ve never dealt with money worries, being at the mercy of an employer, being unable to afford to buy somewhere to live. Going to the supermarket : saving for a holiday etc. So many many things we find normal they have no experience of. So it all becomes about how cold their feet are, when they can get home, whether they’re too hot or feeling hungry. Which makes them very selfish and probably very hard to live with.

Pap walk and now H and Archie skiing on empty ski slopes. Do the kids ever see other kids? Damage control from H&M.

Didn’t H talk about generational harm? His kids appear so isolated, isn’t he just inflicting a different type of harm. Often wondered how those kids will feel in a few years.

My DH gave me a beautiful scarf I had admired/hinted for my birthday. I could really do with some lessons on tying scarves. I try to copy how people in photos who have achieved a great look have done it (I’ve saved one of Catherine 😉). Have to say - Meghan would do well to do the same. Hermes have a YouTube video of various ways with a scarf.

ShamedBySiri · 03/04/2026 08:00

I don’t think William is at all spoilt, petulant and whiny @HeddaGabbles He was at pains to fit in when on his gap year, at uni and when working in the airforce and later at the air ambulance. He seems to me to be professional, friendly and empathetic with a good sense of humour. He’s great with kids.
