Beatrice and Eugenie banned from Ascot

Beatrice and Eugenie have been banned from the royal box at Ascot and from royal events in the foreseeable future. That's according to a headline in the Daily Mail. A little part of me feels a bit sorry for them as they're not their parents. I don't like them much but they do seem to symbolise all that's wrong with the royals. Money and immense wealth and priviledge for very little return.

I can only presume this came under 'misguided QE2 favourite son' category

But then wouldn't it be usual to just ignore?

I imagine (I have NO idea of course) that Andrew flatly denied everything to his mother and urged her to put out a statement
We have to remember he blatantly lied to the nation and the world about everything in that interview so he would have lied to his mother no doubt

CathyorClaire · 04/03/2026 09:53

Yep.

They knew what they were getting into. The Yorks had years' worth of dodgy stories hanging round them before either SIL was on the scene.

Both hanger-on husbands have been happy to parade in fake gongs and strut alongside the rest in pap walks. If it's biting them on the arse now they only have themselves to blame.

Perhaps they forgot the "for poorer" bit when they got married and just concentrated on the "for richer " bit. 😂

For the avoidance of doubt I don't know any of them and could well be a couple of love matches made in heaven for all I know. But as @simpsonthecat said , it would be easy to eschew uncessary publicity.

I find it very sad that the Palace put out this statement in response to a Panorama interview with Virginia Guiffre in 2019.

"It is emphatically denied that The Duke of York had any form of sexual contact or relationship with Virginia Roberts. Any claim to the contrary is false and without foundation".

My thoughts are always with the survivors and I cannot imagine what a crushing blow it would have been to VG to read that. And who knows how much that statement contributed to her ultimate suicide.

Yes. I agree. I can’t imagine what she must have felt when her claims were so publicly denied by one of the most powerful and respected institutions in the world. I feel so sad for Virginia and for her motherless children.

But beyond foolish to put out such a statement especially with that photo.

Yes, it was beyond comprehension to be honest
A statement calling a sexual abuse victim a liar is the sort of thing that will come back to haunt them forever

Yes it was very misguided.

And to suggest that the photo was faked.

GM was also in it & it was known that he knew her.

I think he must have no idea at all about how disliked he is & seems to have thought it would be believable because it was him saying it!

Also that he thought anyone would think it "honourable" to meet a convicted sex offender to "end" the friendship face to face.

I mean if it was a book you'd stop reading on the basis that no one could be that deluded!

Every time I see that NN footage of AMW blatantly lying I can't help studying his face for any kind of tell, but there is nothing. And as you say, he is knowingly lying to the whole world without even a blink.
It's almost chilling.

simpsonthecat · 04/03/2026 11:28

Yes, the height of entitlement and delusion.
We can talk all we like about him being the product of his upbringing, but the bottom line is - he's a horrible person. And how bizarre he hooked up with someone of a similar ilk

diddl · 04/03/2026 11:30

In the interview, didn't he even say that he didn't regret his friendship with JE?

BillericayDickie · 04/03/2026 11:57

Putting that statement out was beyond wrong and weird.
whatever happened to recollections may vary and the other normal rubbish they say.

Not according to this bbc report. He does not regret the friendship with Epstein, a man who by many accounts used and abused young girls for many years. It had, he said, "some seriously beneficial outcomes".

Prince Andrew speaks to the BBC's Emily Maitlis

Prince Andrew interview: 'Little apology or remorse'

The Duke of York does not regret Epstein friendship, writes BBC royal correspondent Jonny Dymond.

That’s what @diddl was saying, @AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta, unless I’ve misunderstood the double negative!

Sorry @diddl I misread your sentence as a question.

diddl · 04/03/2026 12:36

I think I used too many negatives!

That he didn't regret the friendship is imo bad enough, but proudly(?) stating it & justifying??!!

Well he can't be wrong, can he?

He can't say that it was wrong & he was taken in.

I don't think he could ever have swung it in his favour for want of a better phrase as there is no accountability or contrition.

Their life as I see it has been one of luxury, partying , expensive clothes and holidays. All the trappings of wealth. Financed it would now seem by the ill-gotten gains of their parents.

But now both are married into affluent upper middle class families, one with a British Baronetcy and one with a family seat in Switzerland. I doubt either of them has relied on their parents for years.

I still wonder sometimes what the Panorama programme would have said, and if the researchers and presenters of it are annoyed that Emily Maitlis got to take over and do the interview.

The Emily Maitlis interview was Newsnight wasn't it?
Different to Panorama surely

bluegreygreen · 04/03/2026 15:25

It was originally due to be a Panorama programme, and AMW was offered an opportunity to respond to their information, but said he would do an interview instead - hence EM and Newsnight.

Ok. I didn't know that. Perhaps he thought he'd get an easier ride with EM!

bluegreygreen · 04/03/2026 16:08

Perhaps. Perhaps he did? We're not likely to know now.

NewAgeNewMe · 04/03/2026 17:30

I bet he thought he could charm EM, like a lot of things, he got that wrong. Can’t say I’m sorry. Arrogant and entitled.

Yes, and the journalist who had put in all the work got the gig taken off her so EM could do it. I donthink she was credited either, as far as I can recall.

Sam McAlister?

I don't think she was ever going to be the interviewer though?
