The royal family

How does the monarchy need to change after Andrew?

I was reading about Prince William's conversation of mental health in men with others and it struck me how open (relatively) about struggles he may have had with emotion. Such openness in my mind would be inconceivable 50 years ago so are we going to see a RF that is more open and much more willing to be presented as human with greater insights into family life?

Maybe it's a case of the RF having to show the public they have nothing to hide in future with increasing scrutiny of the institution. Certainly the concept of majesty on imho has drained somewhat and there is a need for the RF to rebuild its reputation.

For me as the King is elderly and has been ill it will be William who will have the job of revitalizing the monarchy and looking to how it can presented to a newer possibly less deferential generation. The RF are going to need some good PR.

He’s being open about mental health so you think he’s a good bloke. He’s not so open with the tax he pays on the Duchy of Cornwall or how he spends his time. They can’t be transparent because there is so much to hide from us. They have good PR already, that’s why they still have support. Without the PR, left for us to see the truth, people wouldn’t want them.

its an outdated idea to have a family that is in some way special. It’s dreadful to bring children up in such an institution. It needs to just end.

you lot are so easily brainwashed the rf don’t have to do anything but the kabuki theatre of the past week

SerendipityJane · 22/02/2026 10:15

To answer the OP, they could always make themselves history.

Not that it’s not a lovely image, but kabuki is far more elegant and stylised than the current ‘panicked, podgy suspect in the back of a car’ stuff, I’d have said, while agreeing with your main point.

This. A collective falling on swords, please.

They'd miss.

They need to go. I’ve got nothing against them on any sort of personal level but they are useless theatre that we can no longer afford.

A good sweep out of all those spare parts, get rid of any titles/finances for Andrew’s clan, H&M - bin, Edward’s kids titles. Stop giving ridiculous titles to nearest and dearest / rich people who do sod all - really slim it down and reduce the finances dramatically too

SerendipityJane · 22/02/2026 10:34

Ruminating on this, it occurred to me we have Shrodingers monarchy,.

Apparently the reason the King is the King is because he is appointed by God.

However the succession is decided by parliament.

So if parliament gets to decide who's monarch, then why are they limited to the house of Wailing Windsor ?

This. I think William will jump at the chance to get rid of Harry and Meghan and the kids but really the rest need to go too, including his own future grandchildren. The Duchies need to either be rolled into the Crown Estate or pay all taxes the rest of us pay.

Agree. It is completely wrong to think someone is special just because they fell out of the ‘right’ vagina. They are grifters/hustlers par excellence and care only about keeping their gravy train on the rails

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 22/02/2026 14:28

I don’t believe anything they do really including the mental health stuff. They should but won’t dial it back a lot like the Belgian Dutch royal families do. But they won’t.

TheHaplessWit · 22/02/2026 14:37

They are not just going to go away in one step, but they need to follow the path of virtually all the other European monarchies, which is a significant scale down.

They don't need to own 30 palaces/mansions and take the profits from 1000's of arces of UK land. They don't need >£100m for personal expediture. They don't need any 'working royals' outside of the monarch and the heir.

So...
1 house for the Monarch (Buckingham Palace)
1 house for the heir (don't care which)
1 UK holiday home (Balmoral)
A fixed grant paid to the Monarch (£25m p.a. raising with inflation), for the Monarch to spend amongst the family however they see fit.
RF to pay tax as per all other UK citizens.
All other assets clarified as state assets generating state income into the treasury.
Removal of RF from any parlimentary process (other than ceremonial).

There's probably more, but I thank that the list above would be a great start.

Harry and Meghan have already gone through their own free will.

Well except that parliament gets a veto. So it's not even that special a vagina.

Which is odd, as Andrew is a right cunt.

I was thinking more of getting rid of the titles. Harry still thinks his kids can swan back onto the gravy train.

I agree with this- although none of them seem to like BP so they can have Windsor Castle. BP and gardens to be opened up all year round, displaying the Royal Collection ( which apparently is also ours but we don't get to see it, but part of it can be used for offices and State occasions.
Yes to the rest of it. Monarch and heir on the payroll. The rest- no prince/princess, no Royal role.

Iamacatslave · 22/02/2026 16:09

It’s time for them all to go.

LidlAmaretto · 22/02/2026 16:11

I wonder what would happen if George for example was Gay and wanted to marry a man, so no children born of the marriage, and Charlotte and Louis decided they didn't want their kids to take over? Surely going to potentially Harry's American grandchildren, or Beas grandchildren would be ridiculous.

You might want to see how many candidates were rejected before they got to George I (technically it was his mother, anyway. But she died between the death of Queen Anne and the decision for Hanover).

Oh yeah but now isn't then. I can't imagine them bothering to trawl round the Royal Families of Europe to drag someone in to do it. It would be easier to just appoint a ceremonial Head of State on a 20 year term or something.

Edited

Meanwhile I can easily imagine them doing that 😀

If you are going to have a royal family, appealing to common sense is a lost cause.

Lol Can you imagine going up to some guy in Munich who's an accountant or something and say 'Youre up. No one else wants to be King of England!'
In practice I bet any number of chinless wonders would jump at the chance! It's one of those situations where the ones who are the most desperate for it probably shouldn't have it!

Thecows · 22/02/2026 18:14

I'm intrigued, could it just be wound down ? K &W say I don't want this for the kids, George looks like he'd be over the moon with a life of anonymity, Charlotte looks more up for it but in reality?
