The royal family

How does the monarchy need to change after Andrew?

I was reading about Prince William's conversation of mental health in men with others and it struck me how open (relatively) about struggles he may have had with emotion. Such openness in my mind would be inconceivable 50 years ago so are we going to see a RF that is more open and much more willing to be presented as human with greater insights into family life?

Maybe it's a case of the RF having to show the public they have nothing to hide in future with increasing scrutiny of the institution. Certainly the concept of majesty on imho has drained somewhat and there is a need for the RF to rebuild its reputation.

For me as the King is elderly and has been ill it will be William who will have the job of revitalizing the monarchy and looking to how it can presented to a newer possibly less deferential generation. The RF are going to need some good PR.

A small welcome step.

It's interesting to think that in 1900, only three countries were not Monarchies in Europe. Now three quarters of EU members are republics

And another fact... after Spain's King Juan Carlos scandal, their payout from government was cut and is £0.15 per capita. Ours is £1.29 based on £86million, about to increase to £132million so much more per capita now. We are in the midst of a scandal with AMW... we need to cut right back too!

To an earlier poster, I think Windsor Castle is open most of the year.
I visited in late November 2024 (xmas decorations out).
I visited Buckingham Palace last summer, but I'm not sure when it is open throughout the year. Obviously closed for garden parties, etc.
My own answer to the question is that I can see a time in the future when we no longer have a Royal Family, but at the moment we do, and a lot of people seem interested in them. I think it suits the Gov to keep them for the moment.
I certainly believe that ALL the children (George, Charlotte and Louis) should be brought up to have a proper job (or skills to have a job) mainly in case any of them decide (like Harry) to take a step back.
I think the letters patent should be amended to that only the children of a reigning monarch get to be a prince or princess (instead of grandchildren as at present), with any others at the monarch's discretion), and only those brought up and live in this country to be in the line of succession.
I am in two minds about how often we see pics of Williams children. I definitely think they should have plenty of privacy while growing up, and early adult.
I think this blighted Charles life to a certain extent, and it's far worse now with social media.
By this I mean, he could not do anything without the press knowing, and smuggling in potential dates in the back of a car, was not ideal, for him, or William / Harry, etc
