The royal family

How come William chose to ignore the massive elephant in the room and no one challenged him on it?

Prince William spoke about the very important subject of mh yesterday on Radio One and while it’s a subject that should be highlighted, does no one else think that his credibility on this issue has now been damaged by the AMW case?

He may not have been personally responsible for the alleged cover up, and he may well loathe Uncle Andrew, but he is still a central player in the institution that helped to pay off and cover up the voices of AMW’s alleged victims? Virginia Giuffre took her own life fhs! He can’t just ignore it!

To me this interview came across as incredibly unintelligent and insensitive in current circumstances. And proof that William himself just doesn’t “get it”.

Why on earth did he not say that in the light of current circumstances and out of respect for victims; the interview couldn’t go ahead?

Or why did his new ex crisis manager PR person not advise this?

And why was he allowed to sit there by the BBC and not address this?

And what about the mh of the Palace staff who have suffered because of AMW’s boorish and inappropriate behaviour for years? The nanny who allegedly left because of AMW being inappropriate and the policeman whose arm was hurt by AMW’s speeding at Windsor? The maids who were screamed at? What about the mental health of the police protection offices who quite recently were, according to Lownie, reminded about their NDAs and the safety of their pensions if they spoke out?

I don’t think it’s good enough any longer for a senior member of the RF to sit there and say yet again in a rather generic way “we all need to talk about our mental health” while ignoring what their own institution has covered up for years and is still allegedly trying to suppress?

And the BBC should hold some accountability about this too!

I'm now wondering if one of the criteria for choice of schools was the length of the holidays...

Lambrook are off for a whole month so we won't be seeing the Wales family for some time, apparently.

😆😉😂

When my children were at school the days were extremely long increasingly so as they got older. Bus at 7.15 am and by the time they did classes, had tea then homework clubs it was often 7 before they were home. Saturday was of course sports day and you really only got Sunday free. You needed the holiday time to all regroup as a family.

That's not my experience with professionals and wealthy families.

That could be true. But most wealthy professional people aren’t being given a great wad of money by way of a public grant each year. And that money comes with expectations.

Ah, right. So us Republicans are part of a conspiracy to overthrow Western democracy….😂😂

There is a very entertaining conspiracy theory claiming that the King is a Muslim…

Well not our lovely Mumsnet republicans of course.

But there was a significant portion of Russian bot led propaganda identified around the ‘Where’s Kate’ online chaos.

Really? Certainly is among the professional and wealthy families I know. And those for whom it is normalhave a level of tact towards those less fortunate than themselves…

What do you mean tact?

berthasbloomers · 31/03/2026 23:53

Too late to edit, I'm not understanding the behaviour that you are saying the people you know do to be tactful.

It is a little unusual for two working parents to both take all of their children’s school holidays off- whether it’s St Custard’s or Bash Street…..

Especially when they’re being bankrolled by the UK tax payer.

These anti William posts are so tedious and disingenuous. Each and every time there is a such thread it reads like a puerile attempt to elevate the couple who move to California, their names escape me.

I used to quite like William and Kate but I went off William when I watched him ranting at a photographer near Sandringham. He came across as so entitled and rude.

I agree. He isn’t a nice person.

To be honest, it’s more like any questioning or criticism of the Royal Family is met by “Look! Look over there! They are SO much worse!” A bit like the people who say we have to keep the monarchy or we’ll have President Farage.

wasn't that when he was out with his kids? if so don't blame him.

If someone was taking photos of my dcs, they would get more than a rant I assure you! I don’t blame him tbh. How would you know if there was evil intent or not? You wouldn’t.

If somebody tried to pap my kids (was that the occasion?) I would probably lose my cool a bit too.

I think you’ve misremembered that video - he was upset but very controlled - in the circumstances it was a fairly mild telling off towards a guy who’d been hanging around their home and lurking in the bushes for a few days trying to catch them breaking Covid restrictions.

The photographer was also boasting on his FB page how he loves trying to wind up the Royal family members and get them to lose their temper at him - he’d had some success with Princess Anne apparently.

@CurlewKate NYC holidays in public schools start tomorrow and run through next week. I work in an upper-middle class neighborhood, and the families will be away until the 11th or 12th. This also happens at Christmas and the last 2 weeks of August.

By families I mean both parents, the kids, and the caregiver is sent on vacation. These children attend the free NYC public schools. They don't attend private ones where parents pay tuition.

bluegreygreen · 01/04/2026 15:34

Yes, most people go on holiday with their children when they can.

Where they can't it tends to be limited by financial considerations (employment restrictions, or self-employed people unable to take that long away).

I've never yet heard of someone not going on holiday with their children out of tact towards others, but I suppose anything's possible.

As I recall it, the family were on a private cycle ride when the photographer, who had been hiding in the bushes, started taking pictures of them.

William was arguing with him to get him to leave.

Given that the family have an agreement with the UK media to keep the children's family life private, in return for photos being released at regular intervals, I'm not surprised he was angry.

I couldn't work out what being tactful in that respect meant? You don't go on holidays because some people can't afford it ? Odd.

I was quite fascinated with this story at the time because it was mid Covid restrictions where we were all supposed to be only going out once a day for our daily exercise and staying in our ‘bubbles’.

The one exception for leaving the house was for work. So I was interested in how the rules stretched for someone like a paparazzi style / freelance photographer. Was the work travel extension applicable to speculative roaming for pap photography?

I believe this particular photographer was claiming it was public interest because he was trying to catch the Wales breaking the Covid rules - I think he believed they were breaking their bubble by meeting up with the then Wessexes.

So he had been lurking around their house for a few days with his camera and they finally came face to face with him when they were all out on a bike ride but without their protection officers - so most of the video was William calling his security while telling the photographer off for stalking them.

At the time the photographer had quite an open Facebook page for his business and was boasting about how all the royals hate him and how he likes getting a rise out them.

bluegreygreen · 01/04/2026 16:22

Thanks @wordler

That's an interesting point that I hadn't thought of - to what extent was the photographer breaking the rules he was trying to catch the Cambridges breaking?

BigWillyLittleTodger · 01/04/2026 16:23

I know William is criticised for even breathing on these threads but to complain about him being “arrogant and entitled” whilst defending his wife and children whilst on a bike ride from a man who was following them, hiding in bushes, hanging around outside their house and then filming them is really scraping the barrel.
