Support for Monarchy dwindling

Support for Monarchy now down to 45%

Following on from the previous yougov polls, it seems the constant negativity about Andrew, Sarah Ferguson, William dodging tax / evicting people, Charles ignoring his brothers actions etc... has pushed royal support down to 45%.

How long until a future election process includes a party saying they'll have a referrendum on the Monarchy as part of their manifesto? probably not next time (3 years), but maybe the one after that?

Blow for Royal Family amid Epstein scandal as support reaches tipping point

A new survey has suggested that support for the Royal Family is dwindling amid the ongoing Epstein scandal that has prompted Buckingham Palace to issue an unprecedented statement that the Royals will support the police if approached

If that's the case, why does a yougov poll show support at only 62%. You would expect it to be 80-90% surely...
I think they are getting more and more unpopular by the day

Guess it depends on how you want to view statistics, and if you are a royalist or not. 62% in a general election would be a landslide victory, effectively two out of three people supporting you, not convinced that shows support for the royal family is crumbling, Charles and William are making a concerted effort to streamline the monarchy and ensure it remains relevant. Personally I’d take the royals as head of state anytime over a dictatorship or an idiot like Trump.

William might be perfectly nice, but to me he has no charisma (less than King Charles) and doesn't come across as if he's up for being King.

Ukisgaslit · 14/02/2026 09:57

@Sadcafe
Please learn the difference between a figurehead president and an executive president .
Trump is an executive president .
The UK will have a figurehead president .

The Windsors have much more power than we are allowed to know . Epstein was landing his planes in RAF runways . Who agreed to that ? Andrew ? The brother of the apolitical king can order the armed forces around? Or Charles ? So he did know about Epstein and also can order the armed forces around? Which is it?

Polls are meaningless and are used as part of the propaganda.
Look at the dwindling crowds . No one turns up for them . That’s why all their photo ops are inside or ‘surprises’ involving small groups .

Anyone with any decency is revolted by that family.

Any action yet from William re the 1 million donation from Epstein’s friend ? No? On holiday is he ? Or still practicing his ‘concerned’ face in the mirror ?

Hes certainly up for raking in the cash, even though he doesn't want to do even the minimal amount of work he does now. That, I think will be his downfall. He will probably be a fairly young man when he is King. There will be no 'When William is King... when he is King. The buck will stop with him. He can't chuck the kids to the press when they are surly teenagers either. He'll probably cut Harry and his kids off completely, but then all the spotlight is on him and his family, and what the point of them is, and whether they are worth it.

Ukisgaslit · 14/02/2026 12:39

William is worse than Charles in my opinion - though I’m keeping an open mind in case of more revelations.

We have the now infamous photo of William and Kate driving Andrew to church . Several of them laughing it up with Andrew and Sarah

The same media which splashed ‘Andrew back in fold for Christmas’ are now trying to sell the idea that William was all for cutting Andrew off .

Epstein was first convicted in 2008 . The Windsors cannot claim ignorance of that fact .
They tried besmirching victims . They paid Virgina off not to ‘affect’ the jubilee ! How deeply mercenary .

Now after all this, a couple of days ago William puts out a statement so short and superficial as to verge on dismissive.

And silence since despite the horror of the news re Earthshot .

That’s it. A two line statement and silence .

What revelations have there been about William that, in your opinion, make him worse than Charles?

Cheese55 · 14/02/2026 12:55

Im surprised at 45% in favour. Was this over 80 year olds. I'm not sure young people support them, even before all the scandal. Has AMW had a girlfriend his own age since he "stopped being friends' with Epstien

Agree with this, most of the public aren’t as invested as we all are on here for whatever reason, I doubt the majority give it more than a passing thought one way or the other no matter the current crisis of the day whipped up into a frenzy online or in the media, there certainly won’t be mass protests at the palace gates demanding King Charles head is cut off.

Are you taking about this current AMW-Epstein crisis?

If you are then I think it is a little more serious than events “whipped up by the media”!

That is a very strange characterisation and minimisation of the King’s brother allegedly committing fraud while in public office, allegedly being involved in sex trafficking, allegedly endangering national security, and his family having knowledge of this and covering it up for at least fifteen years!

I agree that lots of the general public do not have the forensic knowledge of some who inhabit these threads, but I think the public are really furious about these latest revelations! Especially the lack of transparency and accountability from the RF.

There are worse things to emerge too.
Lownie is fast writing another book on Epstein and the House of Windsor.

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 14/02/2026 13:15

I personally couldn’t care less about the royals since the queen died. I used to be very patriotic.

He is going to need to be very fast otherwise it’s going to be old news before the ink is dry.

You can still be patriotic and not be a Royalist. Some may say that being patriotic means your community and fellow countrypeople, not just the Head of State, no matter what our ruritanian 'National' Anthem says.

Polls can be made to say anything, @Ukisgaslit, but while I wouldn't say no one turns up it's true crowds are dwindling

Even the far fewer watchers at the coronation had to be explained away by 'elf and safety measures, it's not as if they'll have any more weddings and baby arrivals to sell for a while, and when Charles passes I'll be surprised if that pulls the sort of crowds his mother did

This is very true! , I simply gave it no thought whatsoever, I was busy with work , then children and it was background noise that didn’t make a difference to me at all !
and I admit that I purposely avoided watching the news when my dh was away in Iraq and Afghanistan because I didn’t want to hear anything that would cause me more anxiety.
and if I’m being honest if the monarchy was gone it still would make no difference to my life either 🤷‍♀️

I’m very surprised to read this post jeffgoldblum! You have posted so regularly on RF threads in the past! And stoutly defended some members of the RF.

But on the Afghanistan point, don’t you think it is particularly disgusting that AMW, while Trade envoy, was leaking official documents about Afghanistan, to a convicted paedophile, to allegedly profit from this contact, despite the many British soldiers who lost their lives there? It really turned my stomach when I read about it.

It is reported that on Christmas Eve 2010, AMW allegedly emailed Epstein a confidential briefing detailing investment prospects in Helmand Province as part of Afghanistan's reconstruction, which was then overseen by British forces and funded by UK taxpayers.

The document, prepared by UK officials, detailed "high-value commercial opportunities" in Helmand province, including investment prospects in gold, uranium, marble, and oil and gas.

The email was allegedly sent just after Andrew visited Helmand to visit British troops, in his publically funded role, and at a time when he was supposed to have severed ties with Epstein. The documents suggest Andrew was seeking input on how to "attract some interest" in these projects.

As an ardent royalist from a very early age & having had family work for the RF during the last century, it's quite sad that it's taken less than a week for me to come to the conclusion that the monarchy needs to end.
Looking at polls it seems that many are rapidly coming to the same conclusion.
(Sad in the sense something that's always been there & generally admired around the world is on course for implosion - though the RF have only got themselves along with the men/women in grey suits to blame)

62% support the RF
see YouGovn poll

BoxingHare · 14/02/2026 14:24

This is the age breakdown in that poll.

Top row monarchy, middle row elected, bottom row don't know.

First column 18-24; second 25-49; third 50-64; fourth 65+.

Support for Monarchy dwindling

I wasn’t meaning it was going to be forgotten about, just that he may be too slow in getting a lot of it out there which is why the PP was saying he was working on it fast.

What has this got to do with anything?
my opinion of Andrew has always been known and I have never defended him !
who are you to question me , while hiding behind a name change!
my criticism of h and m has made me a target from their fans who label me a royalist, I have never been one .
I have defended w and c from unfair criticism.
perhaps you would like to reveal your previous names, so I can judge your opinions fully .
