I don’t think that is new info though is it? I feel like I have heard that from other sources and well before Lownie’s book was published.

I don’t think it was ever officially confirmed that the Queen had settled for the full amount. It was assumed that she had being that Andrew was supposed to be her favourite child.

My first thought is they did that to ‘incriminate’ each other but maybe I’ve been looking at the Windsors for too long

@Ukisgaslit I think you are getting carried away here!

Why would they all need to chip in though? Charles is a double billionnaire. I presume much of that was inherited from TLQ. £12m is nothing to them. TLQ was paying AMW's and SF's and her own mothers debts off all over the place to the tune of millions. Why scrabble around getting everyone to chip in? It makes no sense!

Lownie has taken all the info already in the public domain, as well as much new information, and put it all together in one book. That has brought the goings-on of the Windsors into focus in a way that must be their worst nightmare.

MidWayThruJanuary · 12/02/2026 20:39

@RainbowBagels
Maybe TLQ was in a state of panic and felt the fam should all give a dig out.

Ukisgaslit · 12/02/2026 20:39

We were told that Andrew was selling his chalet and Elizabeth was ‘contributing’
He sold it but it he was so mortgaged that no funds over .

I believe we have been misled but add it to the list .

I don’t know why Charles and ‘others’ contributed but it certainly has the effect of implicating them so that was my first thought . Especially as Elizabeth wouldn’t be there to keep protecting Andrew.

The queen was not expected to last much longer - it would have been simpler to have her pay it all ( she paid the most - from the Duchy - ie us) then they can blame her once dead as per their usual modus operandi

We were told that it wasn’t ’public money’ purely because the sovereign grant wasn’t used. It was mainly Duchy money though That is really public money

This whole scandal has shown how propagandised the UK is re the Windsors . Eyes have been opened .

MidWayThruJanuary · 12/02/2026 20:45

It must be very difficult for the parents of the younger royals to navigate this with them. How do you explain that your great uncle has had a years long friendship with a paedophile, that he has paid off a woman who accused him of sexually assaulting her, that your sainted great grandmother was complicit in enabling him and condoning his behaviour, that your grandfather/granduncle - the Head of State - is now embroiled in the whole stinking mess. The young royals cannot be unaware of what is going on. William was 13 when Diana's infamous Panorama interview was broadcast and he knew all about it.

ascenda · 12/02/2026 20:45

Maybe the RF Trust Fund only pays out a few million a year and the rest of it is not immediately accessible since it's tied up in lucrative long term foreign investments. So QE2 couldn't get her hands on the total sum in time.

I need to step away from this, it's getting to my brain! But only for a few minutes, as it's far too interesting, and horrifying at the same time.

Ukisgaslit · 12/02/2026 20:46

I know exactly that feeling

Yes, another issue is this was in the public domain, but nothing was made of it or done with the information until now. The press also has a role to play in a democracy, and that is to ensure they hold truth to power. Its why they have got away with self regulation and not being subject to outside control. Yet they ignored this ( largely- there have been investigations in the Sunday Times for eg) in return for lunch with Camilla, pictures of the children and endless recycling of stories about Harry and Meghan besmirching the good name of The Queen.

MidWayThruJanuary · 12/02/2026 20:50

Exactly. Remember the furore when Harry and Meghan revealed Lilibet's name. Taking the one thing that Queenie could call her own.
It's actually unbelievable how the press rolled over and shut its eyes.

Yes, it’s a pretty comprehensive anthology, part-historiography and critique.

It’s up to the royal family to revise their dysfunctional ways.

It’s up to Parliament to build a new system of government that determines the appointment and functioning of the Head of State of the UK, Crown Dependencies, Overseas Territories and Commonwealth Realms.

Maybe for them the default is to use unnecessarily complex, obscure financial arrangements?

Does anyone have the Republic UK link from yesterday please? It was on one of these threads?

Was it the one I shared @Thewolffromthedoor89 ?

I actually cant believe anyone thought that story would reflect well on The Queen!

CathyorClaire · 12/02/2026 21:07

I hope we will not have a repeat of the last time a Windsor was referred to the charity commission . Although bags of cash is tame compared to the Earthshot donation.

CC is a toothless tiger when it comes to the Windsors.

They found nothing to see when H transferred funds originally arising from charitable donations to a private company under his majority control and thus placed beyond their scrutiny.

Whole lot and their enablers make me sick.

I think on balance the Palace PR machine flew a successful kite.

I don’t think it was Palace PR that initially flew the kite, they just assisted in keeping it in the air.

Thewolffromthedoor89 · 12/02/2026 19:15

Both come from Lownie in Entitled so they passed the lawyer’s check.

I believe The Sun has published details about AMW’s pay-off to VG but haven’t read it so don’t know how the two accounts compare.

Thank you, Thewolffromthedoor89; I was vaguely aware it had been in the Sun but hadn't realised it came from Lownie to start with

And I get the point about the "lawyer test" but rather doubt the RF would risk suing anyone right now, for fear of what else may tumble out

Lastly, about Charles wanting this "shut down", the police who were brought in over Burrell said he did the same there, so maybe it's becoming a habit?

This is like a 1980s soap opera, it’s quite funny. Seriously I wish Virginia had stayed alive to witness it but at least the other victims will know that this isn’t going to blow over any time soon .

Guerlainade · 12/02/2026 22:27

Not at all defending the RF as think they should go.
However look at this way: I am the head of a family owned global company worth billions. This year & next we have upcoming major celebrations. The company & those who in it are thought of as wonderful.

It comes to light that one of family in the C suite has been involved in some rather unpleasant & nasty things. If this gets into the wider domain it will tarnish the company & may even bring about it's downfall

We pay off the accusers & keep things in the family by keeping the accused on a very tight leash.
We remind him of who paid his debts & police intervention if he doesn't do as he's told/behave.

We then find out that the family member the accused has been up to more things than we are aware of.
We realise that keeping it all in house will cause the entire company to collapse.

So we have now decided that by cooperating with the police/authorities is the only way to save the company.
Yes we will be extremely tarnished but at least we are still in business & plan to recover our good name & profits over the following years.
From now on our company operating procedures will be more transparent.

I think well I'm hoping that this is what TLQ & now KC3 have been & are doing; protecting the business from imploding.

I want to know how QE2 would sell the idea of other members of the royal family contributing to Andrew's get-out-of-jail fund.

It's for the sake of the Monarchy
He's your brother/cousin whatever
It's just a loan, you'll get it back
he's been falsely accused, you have to support him

the mind is boggled

It truly is mind boggling.

I can’t imagine Anne, for example, putting her hands in her pocket for this. I can imagine her saying no fucking way.

Who are the cousins who could help out…the one who makes furniture?

I thought QE2 paid for it all and it’s wild that family members helped out if true.

I’d love to know how it was positioned as a loan. How on earth would that work-shy grifter ever pay it back!

Thewolffromthedoor89 · 12/02/2026 23:03

That’s the one! Thank you very much @OneBusyFinch!

And W is having to front it all, while being attacked for fronting it all.

In his position I would be looking into the legal possibilities of opting out.

Not abdication, opting out. Me and the kids. Duke of Cambridge, slice of the pie the RF handed over to the Duchies way back when.

Quiet, private life.

MidWayThruJanuary · 12/02/2026 23:25

That’s the price he has to pay @Rhaidimiddim
Just like his children are having to do
as well - his 10 year old daughter having to agree to selfies with the loons who turn up at sandringham on Xmas day.
Not to mention George and every single facial expression scrutinised and Louis being labelled as the next Harry.

bluegreygreen · 12/02/2026 23:35

As I understand it, quite often high net worth people have assets tied up in different ways and not immediately available, so perhaps that's why there were contributions from several individuals.

He seems quite willing to pay it too. The children should never have started this. They could easily have waved and walked with their cousins in the middle. They were thrown to the crowds because the expectation is that this is their lives- performing for Royal fans and tourists.
