The royal family

AIBU to think the King’s speech was completely irrelevant to most of us

I know he’s head of the church but he’s also head of the country in general and religion is not a top priority for the vast majority of the people he supposedly represents. If the RF want to stay relevant it’s about time they used their positions for something more useful than spouting a bunch of fairy stories that cause many of the world’s biggest problems.

Completely incoherent and he could barely walk. An embarrassing moment

sprigatito · 25/12/2025 16:45

Hardly surprising, is it. His whole life has been insulated against reality in all its forms. If people choose to spend part of their Christmas Day listening to the random dribblings of an industrial-strength benefit scrounger, I’m not sure what outcome they expect.

Incelebration · 25/12/2025 16:45

Well he could hardly talk about the importance of family, could he?!

Overtheatlantic · 25/12/2025 16:47

I quite liked it. It felt unifying in a time when the world is increasingly divided and focused on differences.

Unifying, unless you’re not a Christian.

Flurt · 25/12/2025 16:47

I wondered what he had said - didn’t watch - but there’s nothing embarrassing about limited mobility!

Industrial strength benefit scrounger 😂😂😂😂😂😂

BreakingBroken · 25/12/2025 16:52

People said he was bonkers for his environmental views as well. Maybe it’s true that we all could use a bit more faith.
I believe there is a bit of a Christian resurgence globally.

You don’t like him and wouldn’t be happy with any theme he chose. At least own it.

ohh ! I just posted the same thing on another thread.

Like a pendulum that’s recently started swinging back the other way ?

Satisfiedkitty · 25/12/2025 16:59

I liked it. I thought it was very relevant and quite cleverly done.

PhantomOfAllKnowledge · 25/12/2025 16:59

I thought it was reasonably relevant - talking about unity amongst different faiths at a time when the world is very much divided on religious grounds.

Miranda65 · 25/12/2025 17:00

Of course it wasn't irrelevant - it was appropriate for everyone.
And Christmas is a Christian festival (lest we forget), so if the Head of the Church of England can't make some reference to the true meaning of it all, it would be pretty poor.

Also, several of the images showed support for the Jews, and people of other faiths. After the year we've had, especially the vile antisemitism, that's exactly what I want to see from my Head of State.

What do you want him to talk about? Peeling sprouts and filling your house with over-priced tat? No, thanks!

No I believe we shouldn’t have a royal family at all. But his speech was absolutely ridiculous.

BlooomUnleashed · 25/12/2025 17:08

I just went to watch it on youtube.

I’m looking at it from perspective as having had reason to consider my own mortality more closely than was comfortable, and what I was left with in the end in my bucket of “this matters”. The fundamental principles of living as well as you can, with the cards you were dealt from the start, and the wild cards you acquired as life sunshine and thunderstorms happened on top of you.

His bucket (based on his speech) appears to have much the same content as my own. Packed with values that are shared by most religions, and deemed valuable by most people, whether you believe that God created man, or man created God as an ideal to strive towards despite knowing you’ll never reach that standard of perfection.

Indespairmum · 25/12/2025 17:08

I found it hypocritical talking about a time for family….🫤

MyRoseRaven · 25/12/2025 17:09

He's the head of a Christian Church, it's a Christian feast day and the UK is now a post-Christian country. There's always going to be a conflict.

Comedycook · 25/12/2025 17:09

I zoned out

Mikart · 25/12/2025 17:10

Ive never seen a monarchs speech and I'm 66. It has no relevance to me as do the royal family. Utterly pointless people.

Lemonfrost · 25/12/2025 17:10

Well I thought it was great.

MrsLeonFarrell · 25/12/2025 17:30

I thought he spoke well about the importance of unity and community in today's divided world. There were clips of his visiting people of many different faiths, VE and VJ Day, his visit to the Pooe and Auschwitz, and supporting for those who were hurt at Bondi Beach and in Manchester. That's what I want to see from any leader rather than the divided rhetoric we get from politicians.

The Mail is claiming it was all about a digital detox because heaven forbid they actually print something that fosters unity between communities.

HelenaWilson · 25/12/2025 17:34

And a Ukrainian choir at the end.

I liked it - a lot about shared values, and inclusive of many faiths - which we know has always been the King's attitude.

sunsu · 25/12/2025 17:38

The head of the Church of England referenced God in his Christmas speech? Outrageous.

I really enjoyed his speech. I expect a religious element and liked the focus on unity across religions and nationalities.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 25/12/2025 17:45

I thought it was very relevant.

And one rather expects the head of the church to reference their religion at one of its major festivals.

His speech was fine…you just don’t like him….fair enough….but don’t lie about it
