The royal family

AIBU to think the King’s speech was completely irrelevant to most of us

I know he’s head of the church but he’s also head of the country in general and religion is not a top priority for the vast majority of the people he supposedly represents. If the RF want to stay relevant it’s about time they used their positions for something more useful than spouting a bunch of fairy stories that cause many of the world’s biggest problems.

People said he was bonkers for his environmental views as well. Maybe it’s true that we all could use a bit more faith.
I believe there is a bit of a Christian resurgence globally.

Even if there is a Christian resurgence, that doesn't prove that's not bonkers. People vote for Trump and believe all sorts of ridiculous conspiracy theories.

His speech was fine…you just don’t like him….fair enough….but don’t lie about it

People are allowed different opinions.

Completely incoherent and he could barely walk. An embarrassing moment

What the fuck? This is a really offensive comment. Having mobility issues is not a moral failing or something to be criticised for.

Well apparently he’s been chosen by God to rule over us so take it up with Him.

Quite, there was nothing wrong with his speech either. I may not be at ease with the whole institution, but to ridicule him like this, is not right.

BunnyLake · 25/12/2025 18:01

I never listen to the King’s speech (or the late Queen’s). My parents never did either.

Seconded.

I also don't think the King was 'incoherent' at all, as that poster rudely described his speech, but even if he had been, so what? He's been seriously ill, for goodness sake.

I meant the speech was an embarrassment.

Then why write he could barely walk?
I think you're the embarrassing moment here not the King.
Maybe if you stopped spewing hate and listen to the words of the speech, you'd learn something positive to embody in your own sad life.

How about, just for once @MNHQ you delete the ableist shite? It is Christmas, go on go on go on go on….

No, it wasn't. It was a speech about religious unity, and also acknowledging those who have given service to the country in various ways over the last year and in the past - entirely appropriate from the Head of the Church of England, and head of the Armed Forces.

People might not agree with what he said, and people might not agree with the existence of a monarch, the CofE etc. but that doesn't make the King's speech an 'embarrassment' either in its content or manner of delivery.

FullOfMomsense · 25/12/2025 18:08

Leader of a country is out of touch with normal people's lives? Wow what a shock

Redwinedaze · 25/12/2025 18:08

Seemed ok to me quite relevant and inclusive

ocool · 25/12/2025 18:11

Another year another yawn. Content forgotten after five minutes.

The triumphal, somewhat egocentric anthem was unnecessary. IMV.

Needmorelego · 25/12/2025 18:12

He basically said everyone should just be nice to each other regardless of who we are/what we believe etc.
What's wrong with that?

The Ukrainian choir at the end were amazing though!

ohh ! I just posted the same thing on another thread.

Like a pendulum that’s recently started swinging back the other way ?

Towards Eastern Orthodox and Catholic churches, I believe. Still not bringing new Anglicans to Chaz's yard.

Some observers are saying converts are attracted by a belief that those orthodoxies are anti-Jewish and/or anti-Muslim. Also that they stop attending after a few months. No idea if this reflects disillusionment with a lack of 'anti' polemic, or if they just get bored.

Maybe Chaz should've dressed up in the royal robes and spewed a bit of brimstone 😂

Gotback · 25/12/2025 18:17

It was fine.

Agreed, very nice with their colourful outfits. The rest of the glimpses of RF are so very carefully curated.

Images chosen to illustrate the points being made! Well I never! Ground-breaking stuff there!

LaurieFairyCake · 25/12/2025 19:06

I thought it was great, it mirrored my sermon this morning. Born into poverty, a refugee, powerless, world needing kindness to all, interfaith exchanges with the Sikhs/muslims/jews/Popey.

It was an embarrassing speech. We have never been more decided as a nation and he chooses a lecture about religion as his approach to this, despite the majority of the country no longer being religious.

upinaballoon · 25/12/2025 19:17

Decided as a nation? What are we decided upon?

It was obviously a typo. I meant divided.

PistachioTiramisu · 25/12/2025 19:21

I thought it was a good speech - he seems to speak from the heart. Also he looks happy and his eyes are twinkly - please leave him alone to do his job without complaining.
