Only seen episode 2 and right at the beginning Dimbleby said Charles saved hundreds of millions in iht when the queen died. I know they are exempt from iht but hundreds of millions is just bloody disgusting. They were also totting up the values of art, jewelry etc I was under the impression most of that belonged to the state, not the monarch.
I am appalled that the head of the army charges enormous amounts for them to train on HIS land, HIS harbour/coastline, HIS airfield ffs.
I always loved the queen, strong dislike of Charles and in 2 minds about William. I think the queen now looks grabby and dishonest.
I am surprised how little has been said about it, Dimbleby has always been connected to them, has there been a falling out?

It’s the other Dimbleby - that seriously confused me too! Fascinating that his brother is an arse licking ardent fan 😂

I’ve only seen the finances programme. But this was all widely-known stuff. I mean, predictably crazy sums of money involved, and an apparently entirely genuine sense thst they’re entitled to this insane wealth because of their position and ‘service’, but presumably if you’re the kind of lowgrade loon who camps put on royal wedding/coronation routes waving flags and collective commemorative teatowels, you think it’s fine.

I can almost excuse the low grade loons, it’s the vast numbers who shrug their shoulder and don’t care that baffle me. This awful family are lauded like they’re something special but they’re just grifters living on the public dime and throwing a hissy fit whenever it’s questioned. Williams’s excuse for not being transparent about his taxes is crazy - if he genuinely does pay the max why not publicly show this? I call bullshit. What’s he hiding??

I've watched the first two episodes and agree with most of the comments on here.

Looking forward to episode 3, though not sure when it is due to air?

Paying the maximum.required could mean he pays himself £200k and pays income tax accordingly while rest of his 2bn goes into paying for everything else! It means nothing unless he discloses it.

Thank you!

I think the next Ep is about royals who misbehave....

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/12/2025 17:22

You're very welcome @BustingBaoBun

At the end of episode 2 it said the third one is about the "image" and what they'll do to preserve it, so I'd expect the misbehaviour to be raised but expect it'll go wider than that with Dimbleby asking the questions

The problem was parliament on all sides were going rogue because they didn’t agree with the referendum result. I personally was appalled by everyone’s behaviour. Proroguing put everything on hold for a general election. This put it back to the electorate.

The real person to blame is David Cameron. He fucked up by not taking the referendum seriously. He didn’t plan for an out vote.

Had the gmt of the day done their homework before launching the referendum then the arguments for and against would have had more fact based substance.

The late Queen had very little choice based on the legal advice from her government.

When you say you were appalled by everyone's behaviour am I right to interpret that as appalled at the MPs who would not accept the referendum result, among others? I thought it was awful. In effect they were saying, "We live in a democracy. We've just had a democratic vote. We don't like the result. We won't have it,"
Iirc this country buggered about from 2016 to 2019, getting nowhere much, and Boris got in in 2019 with a promise to do Brexit. No, I'm not saying I like him. I'm not saying he got a good deal, but many people were fed up with the shilly-shallying.
Sorry it's a bit of a de-rail, but it's a reaction to a 'rail'.

Including the shocking behaviour of the bloody queen when Diana died - which the royal fans all appeared to forget VERY quickly 🤬

@upinaballoon yep. It was a shit show and someone had to sort it.

Edit to bring it back to the thread- so it wasn’t completely the late Queen’s responsibility to sort.

Do you mean when she tried to keep the family together at Balmoral, away from all the attention, or when she capitulated to public / press / political pressure and brought them back to London to make public appearances?

We may disagree on this.

Only seen episode 2 and right at the beginning Dimbleby said Charles saved hundreds of millions in iht when the queen died.

E2's exemption from IHT enabled her to both settle her extravagant lush of a mother's debts and trouser a very handsome £20m besides.

I think my main jaw dropping moment of the series so far was the revelation that C3 is our first billionaire (billionaire!) monarch and the realisation that W will be the second and then some.

I'd also like to have seen some questions around how the apparently penniless on marriage Philip had amassed a fortune equating to some millions on his death and why he was awarded a £360k annuity for life which continued on his retirement.

I believe it to be £1.4billion and William is expected to be worth two billion when Charles croaks

I agree entirely.

Horses get dragged to water over and over just on MN alone but the overwhelming response tends to be an irradicable admiration for pretty frocks and bling.

Astonishing.

In a very, very rare moment of royal sympathy I think her instincts in protecting her young at the time grandsons were correct.

As it subsequently transpires both are arses and neither have made good on her trust.

TatianaTwinkletoes · 12/12/2025 21:38

The King is 238th on the UK Rich List, equal placing with Rishi Sunak and his wife. There are several peers richer than the King, eg Dukes of Devonshire and Westminster, whose income is stated as being derived from property. There are also many non-titled individuals on the Rich List whose income derives from property and 'inheritance '. Whatever the rights and wrongs of acquiring wealth this way it's not just the royal family who have acquired their fortunes in this way. William doesn't make the Rich List.

She did nothing to protect her grandsons - she was protecting herself.

Yep, grifters gotta grift and it appears our dear departed queen was quite the expert at scamming the public out of vast sums of ££. Got to admire her in a strange way - she was utterly fucking shameless about it!

It is completely impossible to pin down how much William or Charles is worth, it's only guesstimates. The hide their wealth!

Episode2 of the dimbleby interviews covered this really well.
I imagine they are far more wealthy than we know about
