Duke of Sussex security to be reviewed

bluegreygreen · 08/12/2025 00:54

The Duke of Sussex lost his argument in the Court of Appeal in May for automatic taxpayer security: the current arrangement is that his security needs are assessed on a case-by-case basis provided he gives notice.

He has recently been in touch with the new Home Secretary, and the latest update is that RAVEC has asked its Risk Management Board (RMB) to reassess his threat level.

I actually found that quite sinister, Meghan knows how Harry feels about security and the press and it came across to me that she was playing up to his fears to make him feel vulnerable and unsafe when she knew full well it was just a pizza delivery guy.

You're not alone, BigWillyLittleTodger, and this is what I meant about it not being very kind to play someone like this - especially someone who's lost his mother while she was being chased, even if that wasn't the actual cause of death

Still, anything that got Meghan what she wanted I suppose ...

Parasite jumps to mind.

What Harry doesn't understand could fill Montecito Manor.

Oh come on MN towers - could we not have the laugh emoji back even if just for the RF boards ?

😂 From me

For clarity that 😂was to @IcedPurple not MN Towers.

Meanwhile other members of the Royal Family carry on without Kevlar shields and armed protection.

Duke of Sussex security to be reviewed
Mylovelygreendress · 14/12/2025 13:31

And Louise also seems to manage to wander around St Andrews without a ring of security !

Sequinsoneverythingplease · 14/12/2025 13:35

I think he will get it back. The BRF know he absolutely will not come back without it and I think they want him to feel able to return. This combined with the prominent large framed photo of Meghan on her wedding day indicates that they’re trying to ease them back in my opinion.

I’d never so much as glance in their direction ever again if I was W & C though!

The royal family do not dictate who does and does not receive security. That is a matter for RAVEC. They may have some input, but they certainly do not make the final decision. Armed security is not provided based on an expat's 'feelings'.

Also, nobody has ever been able to tell me what exactly is wrong with Harry's current 'bespoke' arrangements, whereby provided he gives adequate notice, security will be provided in accordance with current risk assessments. Neither has anyone been able to tell me the logistics of guaranteeing automatic armed security to a private citizen who lives 8 time zones away. Are highly trained specialist close protection officers supposed to just hang around twiddling their thumbs awaiting the call from Montecito Manor? At taxpayer expense?

Because it’s not what William has !

bluegreygreen · 14/12/2025 14:15

Exactly @Mylovelygreendress - that's the only issue!

Many people would beg for a 'bespoke' arrangement, where they can have a risk-assessed provision for every time they fly into the country.

Yes exactly.

Harry doesn't live in Britain and he doesn't perform any official duties.

Frankly, he's lucky to have this 'bespoke' arrangement. I would love if the upcoming review came to the conclusion that due to the fact that Harry is no longer a prominent public figure representing the Crown, the risk to him has greatly reduced and he no longer requires regular threat assessments.

Could yet be a case of 'be careful what you wish for'.

Here's my theory. Shabana Mahmood, a sensible and efficient woman, knew she had to respond to Harry's letter. She suggested to the Royal family via civil servants that it would be reasonable to conduct a review after 5+ years without one. She and the Royal family hope the review will provide evidence the current arrangement is the maximum that is appropriate for Harry's reduced threat level. She and the royals know that the public is in no mood to stomach publicly funded costs for on-demand, armed security.

'No, no. You don't understand. 'Bespoke' is inferior because it omits a risk assessment everybody else gets. Not fair.' H

I wonder if anyone tried asking him if he'd rather have an 'off-the-peg' version instead?

According Richard Eden , Harry wants to educate his children in the UK told to him by a friend of H's . Now if this rather vague claim is true perhaps that is why H is lobbying. RE believes there is a push to "warm up" H&M's relationship with the RF and the British Public prior to H and his family spending more time here.
I reckon even if this is true whoever has an uphill task with the public

I don't think we can read anything into family displaying family photos. If they appear in the King's Speech then I'll wonder about a return.

I don't think this is surprising. Just because someone has estranged themself it's not surprising that a family member would still have their photo up despite how horrible they have been. I'm sure there is sadness underneath.

One of the photographs I currently have displayed contains someone I am currently estranged from due to them hurting me deeply .
I just like the photo .
