Just saw that overlit advert where, uncharacteristically, Meghan seemed to be almost NOT looking at the camera. So weird.
In her defense, quiche for breakfast is a very suburban American thing. It’s odd in the UK but here people have hash browns, shakshuka. quiche, chicken and waffles for breakfast. Mind you, none of these things are in any way elevated: quiche is literally a way to use up odd bits of veg and protein and nobody is making their own pastry.
Add to that the excessive sweetness of all that honey and jam/spread, frozen pancakes which are made with added sugar, premade waffles (hers come in packs of 8 from Whole Foods and would be excessively sweet to the British palette): this is the very picture of a Motel 8 buffet breakfast. Sorry, but it’s not anything any self-respecting, semi-capable home cook would put out for breakfast.
As ever, with Meghan, all style and no substance - and not even that stylish with that straggly hair falling into her food and her fingers all over the unwashed fruit. I don’t know who she thinks she’s talking to: someone for whom Cheerios and milk would be an achievement? A good cook? A rich person? A working mom? A single woman? Nothing in this advert would work for any of that demographic. And the reason is because it hasn’t been designed to appeal to anyone. It’s been designed as a showboat for Meghan Markle, and the excruciating thing is just how dull, basic and uninteresting it is.
