It was cancelled after one series.

Really? Totally went over my head ! Mind you it’s not of interest to me and I don’t watch much on Netflix anyway!

IcedPurple · 07/11/2025 17:36

jeffgoldblum · 07/11/2025 17:31

I’m sure I heard it had a time limit and that the rights have run out now! 🤔

Yes, that's what 'optioning' is all about.

A studio pays a certain amount for the 'option' of dramatising a book. If the option is not taken up within a certain time period, it expires and can either be renewed or another studio can option it. Or not.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 07/11/2025 17:36

IcedPurple · 07/11/2025 17:28

If by 'they' you mean 'Archewell Productions' then I don't think they ever had the rights.

AFAIK, Netflix 'optioned' the book and there was talk of Harry and Meghan producing it. But they never held the rights themselves, and clearly it's not going to happen now.

Thanks that explains why we’ve heard nothing, there were also rumblings about a Miss Haversham film if I recall, presume that won’t see the light of day now either.

I thought it had a cult following? surprised they cancelled it so quickly if so.

Yes I thought so but wasn’t sure if I was correct because the fanfare was a tad over egged and some people made it seem like they had actually purchased the full rights ( which has been done by some unscrupulous companies to stop a rival making a film they have no intention of making themselves.)

AtIusvue · 07/11/2025 17:40

They produced so little with a NF team behind them, so they aren’t going to produce anything on their own. Pretty sure they got rid of most of Archewell production staff months ago, before the NF announcement that the deal is over.

Nope. You never started any thread.

Stop seeking attention. You got caught.

Stop lying 🤥

jeffgoldblum · 07/11/2025 17:52

Can we please leave this stupid argument now!
its getting tired and boring.

Spectre8 · 07/11/2025 17:53

AtIusvue · 07/11/2025 17:14

No you never. You are making stuff up. Unrelated threads have nothing to do with the Meg threads. You got caught. You never created a thread.

Literally no one believes a word you say. Stop embarrassing yourself.

Edited

See there you go again saying I never created a thread. But I have. Again you should say I have never created a Meghan thread and then you will be right.

Until then simply saying I never created a thread is a lie.

Spectre8 · 07/11/2025 17:50

Stop lying 🤥

Enough

You refused to produce any thread link- because you have none!!!!!!!

I have been very patient you, even though you got caught out lying about starting Meg threads and had the audacity to accuse me of lying. You been proved to be making it all up!

You never started a thread, all you do is post aggressive comments and look for attention.

Do not contact me again. No one believes a word you have to say.

I don't think it had much to do with the original. Different city, different cast (not sure whether the old cast dic cameos). TBH, I could never understand the hype around it - it was fortunate that there were 9 (I think) series to go at over lockdown. The bits I saw were a bit shit, but I'm quite particular about legal dramas.

Indianrollerbird · 07/11/2025 18:02

*Did cameos. Let's hope there weren't any dic(k) cameos!!

She said in 2022 in Variety, she was done with acting. Harry was indignant at the idea that the RF expected her to carry on acting once married…..and yet here we are.

She really wouldn’t have even considered this a year ago. There has been so much change since she lost the NF deal. The crazy PR drive, turning up at fashion week and now having to do cameos. It’s only been a few months since it ended!!

Absolutely, but I still say good luck to her; after all somebody's got to bring some money in and it doesn't appear Harry's capable of doing it

Of course it's not clear what she'll actually be doing yet and how big her part will be, but hopefully it'll pay for Harry's court cases and the security they seem to expect

I can see why it flopped if it had no bearing to the original (which I’ve never seen) reboots never seem to really work apart from one in my opinion, Dallas! The reboot was fantastic I was gutted when it was cancelled 😞

Sadly I’m not sure it will puzzled , if industry insiders are to be believed, you don’t get big bucks for cameos ( unless you are Marlon Brando!) apparently all Meghan has been offered is her own wardrobe, changing room and stylist .
this of course could be incorrect but I’m inclined to believe it , let’s not forget Kate blanchets unpaid and uncredited cameo in hot fuzz!

Dang, they could have had a lawsuit over a frozen todger, and had Elizabeth Arden to sponsor the episode!

There’s lots of terrible actors in Hollywood, I think she has more chance at making money this way than any other venture she would have.

Seemingly, just like the Brits, Americans are cutting back this Xmas. Selling $42 boxes of jam isn’t going to sell in this climate. It isn’t organic or something else that would justify the price.

It’s mass produced, which she has admitted to with her ‘masstiege’ comment. It’s just designed to look luxury, not that it is a luxury product.

She should have priced the items much cheaper.
Not one of the gift jam boxes sold at Godmothers when I seen it. Not that that clientele group couldn’t afford it……they could, but they are not paying that money when they can afford real luxury.

As ever, just doesn’t work. She has no idea who her market is. I mean she’s selling at a bookstore!

I'm just back from a month in the USA and I can say it seems the country is hurting. There's not the usual bonne vie. People are restless and unsure about the future like the UK.

It's just dawned on me that this was Meghan's role in 90210 😀

Indianrollerbird · 07/11/2025 18:36

But, as I pointed out above, gossipy interest in Meghan is not at all the same thing as wanting to see someone in a professional context.

Meghan's podcasts flopped and Spotify dropped them. WLM wasn't exactly a roaring success and the NF deal has not been renewed. 'As Ever' pancake mixes and 'spreads' don't seem to be flying off the shelves either. There's a consistent pattern there and I hardly see that people would sit through a whole film or TV show just because they either love or hate Meghan. That's not the sort of thing people base entertainment decisions on.

You 'pointing out' and 'hardly seeing' doesn't necessarily mean you're right though. Just a thought.

Lifestooshort71 · 07/11/2025 18:45

You 'pointing out' and 'hardly seeing' doesn't necessarily mean you're right though. Just a thought.

The facts speak for themselves.

None of Meghan's commercial projects have been a great success, or any other sort of success.

Just because people might like gossiping about you does not mean they're going to invest their time or money in watching a show just because you're in it. That has been shown time and time again.
