Harry and Meghan are still very popular internationally

I wouldn’t say they are popular at all, notorious, absolutely.

LaMarschallin · 10/10/2025 10:01

Posted this elsethread when I thought I was here.
Still, this quote from a work of towering genius encapsulates that yearning for awards a la Muttley ("Medal! Medal!") combined with the wish to avoid having to move away from the mirror/sofa to actually do something:

Don't wanna dance like Fred Astaire
Be like Superman through the air
Don't wanna join Claire Francis in the riggings
Pot the black with Hurricane Higgins
Don't wanna ride like Willie Carson
Be a Bishop or an important Parson
Don't wanna hit Geoff Boycott for four
Knock Mohammed Ali on the floor.

I just wanna be a winner
Just a little Oscar please
Or a box of OBEs
I wouldn't mind if it was Nobel
Even Eric would serve me well

See one, feel one, touch one
See one, feel one, touch one
See one, feel one, win an award

To be fair to Trump, they have a Nobel Prize to Obama very early on in his presidency when he hadn't really achieved much at all and the thing they gave it to him for didn't being lasting peace. I hope Trump doesn't get it but if he does he is probably just as worthy a winner as Obama, that is not very worthy at all. It should go to the invisible people who really make a difference not politicians.

To be fair to Trump, he did end that awful war between Albania and Azerbaijan 😉.

TheBewleySisters · 10/10/2025 10:03

@LaMarschallin "cyclops" - made me laugh!

OctopusFriend · 10/10/2025 10:04

They should look at the courageous work of Maria Corina Machado, the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.
What an incredible and brave humanitarian.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 10/10/2025 10:05

OctopusFriend · 10/10/2025 09:51

I do wonder. Do they actually think that they are "humanitarians of the year"?
Really?

Well considering Harry accepted an award for being a legend in aviation despite it making him an international laughing stock, yes I expect the pair of them do consider themselves the best humanitarians who ever lived and think they thoroughly deserve the award they paid for.

Mylovelygreendress · 10/10/2025 10:07

How do you buy an award ? I think I am a good baker so can I buy the GBBO award ??

They gave the Peace Prize to Kissinger, after the USA had bombed Cambodia into the Pol-Pot stone age. As an American satirist said, satire died that day.

I think being a millionaire helps. Oh, and having titles. Although official royals don't accept such things.

True. Maria Corina Machado is on a whole other level.

Pleased to see that the story is way down the DM page with William in top spot .

As I said elsewhere yet again the gods have conspired against them - Covid, LA fires etc. This time it's only a peace settlement in the Middle East 😂 ouch !

Aside from this I see this event was not a grand scale event. I've seen the photos of the room. Tickets were still on sale yesterday for this event.

  1. Trailblazer: 2 “prime” tables of 12 people at each table - being advertised at $250,000
  2. Pathfinder: 1 “prime” table of 12 people is $150,000
  3. Innovator: 1 “premium” table of 10 people is $100,000
  4. Champion: 1 “premium” table of 10 people (but with fewer shoutouts and freebies that #1, 2, and 3 get) is $50,000
  5. Benefactor: 1 “premium” table of 10 people (but with even fewer shoutouts and freebies) is $25,000
  6. Supporter: 1 individual ticket entry is $5,000

You can buy Pointless trophies on eBay apparently.
And at least the title is honest...

I wonder if they realise that most people’s reaction to this is not - oh this must mean they are excellent humanitarians. But instead - oh they must have paid for it. I wonder why they bothered, it just makes them look even more desperate and useless than they did before. Not helped by the RF being out and about and getting good press for doing stuff that seems worthwhile and centres the cause and not themselves. Chalk and cheese.

This is in fact the scenario now. This is what people think . There has been so much of this award type thing. Archewell is sponsoring some of today's events in New York. 🙄

AutumnedCrow · 10/10/2025 10:17

‘Humanitarian of the Year’ is an oxymoron.

The real, genuine humanitarians do not wish to be in competition with each other, especially for an ‘award’, but choose rather to work together under the radar for the good of humanity for their own ethical reasons. The results are what matter, not being lauded.

Would usually expect totals to be handing out awards to worthy recipients who do a lot of work in their respective space ….not getting their PR kicks by engineering awards and photo ops for themselves. All a bit tragic…

Side note, doesn’t Harry look like the Prince Phillip now? It’s his brow.

He's certainly got Charles' incredibly close set eyes. If it wasn't for his nose he'd be a cyclops.

He looks SO much like his father and family yet people still insist he’s not Charles’s son.

ThePoshUns · 10/10/2025 08:38

Yes, much better than she looked in Paris. New fillers?

I think she’s just genetically blessed. Being bi-racial helps. She doesn’t have a face that looks like fillers. She has a very mobile brow that shows lines so she’s not using Botox either.

SoReadyFor · 10/10/2025 11:23

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 10/10/2025 08:54

Harry and Meghan are still very popular internationally- so if you give them an award, you get international attention for your organisation/any organisations you are trying to promote and so it’s worth giving it to them. Also they will turn up, not send a representative.

Rather depressingly, the big difference with Meghan’s look is she seems to have lost a bit of weight. As a fellow middle aged woman, I do hate that the answer to looking better is often “lose a bit of weight”. It’s in the same vain as realising the people who tell you to drink more water and give up sugar/coffee/wine and go to bed early are right, such things will take 5 years off your face. <sigh> why isn’t the solution ever “eat the cinnamon bun”?

No they aren't. Same laughing stock everywhere

smilesy

Meghan received praise as an entrepreneur ( 🤨 ).

Weeeell... 50% of the description of her was correct. She is a wife and mother (that's a very rare and special status). And at least she's dropped claims to be a supermodel.

When and where did she ever claim to be a supermodel? She’s never claimed to be any kind of model

Real humanitarians do whatever is needed and often that involves engaging with the public.

Where do you get this whole ‘real humanitarians’ clap trap from. We know of many of the world’s biggest philanthropists and humanitarians. You are now saying none of them count?

Meghan’s wikipedia page (which the editing history shows was regularly edited by an IP address linked to a Los Angeles PR firm) described her as a model. However, just days before her relationship with Prince Harry became public in October 2016 the same IP address changed her occupation from "model" to "actress, activist, humanitarian," and removed references to her role as a suitcase girl on Deal or No Deal.
