Ol’ Markus really is the Eminence Grise.

Humanitarians of the Year? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

You've got to wonder if they have any self reflection at all.
Do they have no idea what ordinary people are doing, day in and day out? That woman in William's video, for example.

Charlenedickens · 10/10/2025 08:33

That’s very odd. Some of the awards these two get are eye brow raising to say the least, so many other worthy winners. On a side note though, I think Megan looks fantastic here, one of her best looks.

Really, what does it matter what she looks like?

It really shouldn't, but we do judge women on their looks, particularly women for whom that has been their currency. Meghan was an actress of a certain type, and then a royal spouse doing some engagements and now a trad wife. Nothing wrong with any of that, but it's not exactly about the content and very much about the appearance.
Hence her turn at Paris Fashion Week.

The world really is gone mad.

And Trump may get the Nobel Peace Prize.

It does seem inappropriate bearing in mind the associations with Chrissie Teigan and Balencciaga but I think H&M are good at compartmentalising things. I don’t know who the organisers are (haven’t read up on it) but surely they’re a bit embarrassed by it (or not, who really understands how all these people think and operate when you’re not on the inside).

Charles and William attended an event about COP23 together last night, William did an interview highlighting Suicide Prevention Day, and the fact that his Royal Foundation is working to link together charities in all four countries of the UK to help find better support for people at risk of suicide. Catherine released a serious essay yesterday and visited a charity to highlight the importance of parental attention.

Harry got an award for existing? Being royal in the US? Meghan dressed nicely to support someone who makes clothes. And got an award for, the healing properties of spread?

I know the Senior Royals don't receive awards they present them but the past few days could not have been a starker contrast.

And it's fine, Harry isn't a working royal he is a celebrity and celebrities love getting awards from each other where the title is in inverse proportion to what they have done to get it. But drop the titles Harry and I think a large proportion of the criticism goes away. At the moment you just look desperate.

Absolutely this. They really are clueless.

viques · 10/10/2025 09:11

I expect MrTrump sent a strongly worded message written in thick felt tip pen telling them that if H wanted to stay in the US and not get deported then the pair of them needed to tell the Nobel people that they didn’t want the Peace Prize this year. But as a consolation prize he knew some beautiful, beautiful people who would be happy to fly them free to NY and give them a meaningless award that no one has ever heard of and that they didn’t actually have to do any work for. Win win.

Letmeoutodhere · 10/10/2025 09:00

Really, what does it matter what she looks like?

It wouldn't matter if she had anything of substance to bring to the table but she doesn't, apart from being married into the British RF which was achieved by Harry being shown photos of what she looked like, rather than, say, some erudite article she'd written about washing up liquid.
If her looks don't matter, she really has nothing.

smilesy · 10/10/2025 09:13

No, I’m baffled. All the articles seem to say is that Harry waffled on about the ills of social media and Meghan received praise as an entrepreneur ( 🤨 ). Not sure what ”humanitarian” is supposed to
mean in this context 🤷‍♀️

That lady is incredible. She has done so much to raise awareness of suicide and mental health. I don’t blame W for crying. I found tears going down my cheeks when I was listening to her.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 10/10/2025 09:16

Perhaps a better question is “why does the award of humanitarian of the year exist?” I assume the answer is to raise awareness of charities and the issues they are addressing. If the point of this award is to raise awareness (and possibly use that to raise funding or apply political pressure to tackle the issues), then Harry and Meghan are the perfect choice, they will turn up for the ceremony and have their photos taken. Newspapers and tv news/gossip will show the photos /footage (in a way they wouldn’t for other winners) and talk about why they’ve won.

I know people on here are increasingly frustrated H&M haven’t sunk into obscurity, but any story involving them does still grab the public interest so cynically they are always a good choice for these things.

PullTheBricksDown · 10/10/2025 09:17

No idea what specific achievement this award is meant to be for. Meghan looks great here, much better than last photo I saw, but I don't think that's a weight thing (she's very slim!) more wearing an outfit with a decent cut for her figure and that isn't horribly creased. What a difference!

LaMarschallin · 10/10/2025 09:19

smilesy

Meghan received praise as an entrepreneur ( 🤨 ).

Weeeell... 50% of the description of her was correct. She is a wife and mother (that's a very rare and special status). And at least she's dropped claims to be a supermodel.

To be fair to Trump, they have a Nobel Prize to Obama very early on in his presidency when he hadn't really achieved much at all and the thing they gave it to him for didn't being lasting peace. I hope Trump doesn't get it but if he does he is probably just as worthy a winner as Obama, that is not very worthy at all. It should go to the invisible people who really make a difference not politicians.

Zippedydodah · 10/10/2025 09:20

Yet another self-promotion 🥱
Utterly meaningless awarding this these eejits, it sickeningly devalues the work of true humanitarians.
Self-aggrandisement at its worst 🤢

Who on here is frustrated that they haven't faded into obscurity? I never thought that would happen. Their lifestyle, their choice. They want their pictures out there and the headlines, fine. However, if it's hypocritical behaviour or a meaningless award, then folks are going to comment.

MrsLeonFarrell · 10/10/2025 09:37

I'm not frustrated they haven't shrunk into obscurity. I am frustrated by their PR decisions. How much more effective would it have been for Prince Harry and Meghan to be announced as the award presenters for Mrs Willis of Ohio who organised a support group for the parents in her town who had lost a child and who then went on to extend the programme State wide and saw it copied elsewhere. They would still have been in the papers but instead of the comments about paying for the award or questioning why they got it, the narrative would have been about uplifting others, which is what they said they wanted to do when they left.

NormaMajors1992coat · 10/10/2025 09:38

I wonder if they realise that most people’s reaction to this is not - oh this must mean they are excellent humanitarians. But instead - oh they must have paid for it. I wonder why they bothered, it just makes them look even more desperate and useless than they did before. Not helped by the RF being out and about and getting good press for doing stuff that seems worthwhile and centres the cause and not themselves. Chalk and cheese.

I'm not going to diagnose someone via the press.

Having said that, it could all be about them in a more subtle way. Presenting the award would have still made headlines and drawn attention, because everything they do does. But it would have not have drawn criticism.

Hoolahoophop · 10/10/2025 09:44

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 10/10/2025 08:54

Harry and Meghan are still very popular internationally- so if you give them an award, you get international attention for your organisation/any organisations you are trying to promote and so it’s worth giving it to them. Also they will turn up, not send a representative.

Rather depressingly, the big difference with Meghan’s look is she seems to have lost a bit of weight. As a fellow middle aged woman, I do hate that the answer to looking better is often “lose a bit of weight”. It’s in the same vain as realising the people who tell you to drink more water and give up sugar/coffee/wine and go to bed early are right, such things will take 5 years off your face. <sigh> why isn’t the solution ever “eat the cinnamon bun”?

A huge smile knocks the years off, and a cinnamon bun will generally give me a huge smile. So I'll take that advice thanks. :)

MaturingCheeseball · 10/10/2025 09:48

Do they truly believe they are humanitarians, and humanitarians of the year no less? If they think this then they are off their rockers, and if they might doubt their worthiness but accepted the award anyway then they are shameless.

I do wonder. Do they actually think that they are "humanitarians of the year"?
Really?
