Other actresses have success but then find roles setting up and turn to other revenue streams, they don't get mockery as they can go under the radar. Other people post videos of wrapping techniques and presumably get views but aren't headline news in the tabloids. Celebrities have failed business ventures and podcasts all the time, they pass without comment.

Meghan is stuck with every little thing being turned into tabloids headlines purely because of who she married and because she insists on sticking with that empty title. I feel sorry for her and admire the fact she never gives up and keeps trying new things. However going from a massive Netflix contract to talking about tiktok style recipe videos and wrapping demonstrations is a bit of a comedown.

Just to say - I did watch one of WLM1 about gift wrapping and I almost shouted at the TV. Yes I believe she did teach / do calligraphy - or her version of it and gift wrapping to make some extra money whilst she was looking for acting jobs - and good for her I would say. However in the giftwrapping segment she did not align the natural creases in the paper with the edges of the box. This Is gift wrapping 101. (Yes I am sad but I speak as one who in the 70s had to cover our school books in brown paper to make them last longer. Not my first rodeo 😂)

I am a little sad I know that - no need for anyone to point it out

😂😂😂 I wasn't allowed Jackie until I was a teenager 1974. However I was extremely adept at Buntys cut out wardrobe on the back page. I even drew and made my own paper designs with little fold over tabs.... Victoria Beckham eat your heart out!

@Indianrollerbird tin foil was utter genius.

Every fucking time I tried to cut out Buntys dresses I cut off the little tabs by mistake. Cue tears before bed time....

Oh yes, I remember this soooo much! It was hard to cut round with little blunt scissors and leave those tabs on!

MaturingCheeseball · 17/10/2025 18:49

I loved those cut-out outfits! I had a big box of them. Dm looked after my small cousin and while I was at school cousin tore them all up. I was not allowed to say anything as usual ☹️ Sorry to bring down the mood!

MaturingCheeseball · 17/10/2025 18:58

I did treat myself a while back to a Joan Crawford set 😁

I used to sneak my dad's nail scissors out of his manicure set, I would get a smack, he said it blunted them, it was worth it. I suffered for my art 😂😂 comic paper was so thin, I would reinforce my favourite models and dresses glued onto thicker paper.
I was truly subversive like one of the 4 Mary's.

OctopusFriend · 17/10/2025 19:07

I loved the Four Marys.
Fieldy, Raddy, Cotty or Simpy? I loved Simpy.
I also loved those cut out dolls and all the different outfits!
Simpler times.

binkie163 · 17/10/2025 19:11

@BasiliskStare it makes me itch thinking about box and paper fold not lined up, that would set my asd ticks into overdrive.
Creasing the bunty cut out tabs also required precision or ruin the line of the shoulders 😱 but not too sharp a crease or it would tear. A whole generation of women traumatized by Bunty.
I just parachuted into the sad section.

OctopusFriend · 17/10/2025 19:13

I loved Bunty. It was honestly the highlight of my childhood.

OctopusFriend · 17/10/2025 19:13

Christmas Day! Opening the Bunty Annual!
🥰 💕

I was Simpy Def an outsider. I was more st. Trinian than st. Elmos
I wanted to be radders, she was sophisticated.

I don't understand why you feel sorry for her. Yes, the fame she got through marrying a prince means everything she does is subject to scrutiny, but on the other hand she would never have had those opportunities if she were just another 40 something cable TV actress.

I also don't agree that she 'never gives up'. I think giving up is exactly what she does, the moment her latest venture loses its shine or fails to yield instant results. Going back to where she was a decade ago, when the world has moved on, isn't so much 'trying something new' as running out of ideas.

OctopusFriend · 17/10/2025 19:33

Good points, @IcedPurple . I think she does give up. I think she bails when it's not instantly successful. She is just flitting about trying to find something that isn't particularly hard work, but brings in good money, and keeps her in the headlines.
To now hear her claim expertise in gift wrapping is just risible.

NormaMajors1992coat · 17/10/2025 19:46

Trying to think what absolute non skill of mine I could claim that might raise my profile a bit.. I’m quite good at tying shoelaces - you might even say advanced 🤪🫠

Brilliant. I am the Queen of folding. Everything in my home is folded neatly.

Hospital corners is mine - sort of aligns with wrapping too.

prelovedusername · 17/10/2025 19:58

I love a hospital corner! Poetry.

I agree but I just find her an increasingly sad figure. All those empty awards and nothing really lasting. So much potential wasted.

What 'potential' though? I think it's very obvious now that there really isn't anything there.

Me too! I can parallel park with a couple of inches front and back!

It's about the only thing I can do and I don't know why!

I think she had the most incredible opportunities, but to be honest, I think it was all really beyond her (and him). She was VP of the Commonwealth Trust, and could have had the most amazing life, travelling all over the world, meeting interesting people, supporting projects, helping developing nations. She could have supported the work of the monarch in the UK, meeting movers and shakers, helping charities etc.
I just think she really wasn't up to it. Nor is Harry. I don't mean to be unkind, but it was really beyond the abilities and personalities of both of them.

Maybe but we can all see how successfully the palace handled Harry and I don't think it would be beyond the grey men to have helped them within the family, if they had been willing to accept advice. But outside it they flounder.
