The royal family

Why is Meghan hated?

YourBrickTiger · 07/10/2025 13:26

I have very strong views about the Royals especially Camilla, however I am genuinely interested and want to find out more as to why Meghan Markle seems to be so hated. I'm asking in case there is something I have missed. I do read up as much as I can and watch shows from 'both sides' of the argument, but there is nothing that I have seen so far that warrants the level of sheer hatred geared towards her - I don't mean on here necessarily, but on social media in general. She cannot do ANYTHING without a swarm of people descending on her like vampires to tear her apart.

She isn't an adulteress, she's not a paedophile or sex offender, she isn't lazy, she seems to genuinely care about people in need.....and from what has been shown, she genuinely loves Harry and is just trying to make a life with him. He left the UK to start a life away from a nest of some awful people, his mother died when he was 12, his uncle is a sex offender, there is racism and a rigid set of rules within that family where he won't be king anyway so what is wrong with him leaving?

I'm not starting this to start an argument I am genuninely interested in why she is so rabidly disliked and why? Maybe I will start to feel differently if there is more of a reason but at the moment I cannot see one?

No “only” about it. The role of Queen Consort is what you make it.

The Duchess of Edinburgh was primarily a royal consort when her children were younger but she’s really come into her own in recent years.

I think given time we’ll see what C has to offer.

bluegreygreen · 14/10/2025 15:36

I'd be surprised if she 'only [wanted] to be queen consort' - most little girls grow out of the princess dream in primary school (if they ever had it) don't they?

I think she has said that her life's work is what she has been doing with the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood. Someone on another thread quoted the significant impact that has already made.

Thanks for all the participation guys, great comments and thoughts.

With regards to Catherine, I do like her but I struggle with a female in this day and age only wanting to be queen consort. That's what she actually wants and I often wonder is it out of pure love for William or is it because she was reared for the role. I guess it's admirable from both perspectives but is love enough to get you through that role? I guess for PP it was.

What? Only consort? What do you do with your life that is so notable?

Hanging around waiting to be queen is a bit of a pointless job too. But I don’t get why being any member of the RF is “notable”. Pretty sure a significant number of people on Mumsnet contribute significantly more to society than any of them do.

@binkie163

I was glad they decided to go and earn their own money, I thought good for them. Then the Oprah interview, I was actually disgusted with them and it's been an avalanche of shit ever since

Yes, that’s exactly how I feel.

Well I wasn't asking you but it's a bit dismissive of women who are mothers to suggest that is not notable? She isn't hanging around waiting to be Queen. She's raising a family , supporting her husband and performing her Rpyal duties . What else notable do you think she should be doing ? Again what are you doing that is so notable ?

I don't understand your comment. Can you explain please?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/10/2025 17:40

I do believe that her end goal was always to be back home in Cali as a Hollywood Elite A lister from the very start of her relationship with PH. It was just a question of when and how

So do I, @Winnertrinner, but never having watched it I didn't know until you said that she was only on screen for a couple of minutes in the Suits episodes

I've no doubt there are plenty of actresses out there who'd be grateful to have been in it at all, but the way some carry on you'd think she was the main performer and an oscar-worthy one at that

ozarina · 14/10/2025 17:57

Meghan was on screen for 138 minutes seemingly in Suits.

I just looked it up and see she was in 108 episodes, so the "two minutes" looks generous - though TBF it's a lot further than so many get

I think raising children is an entirely legitimate occupation. If that’s what the PofW wants to do then good luck to her. But don’t then tell me that she is also “working hard on royal duties” which are somehow vital to the well being of the nation. And the children appear to have two parents prioritising them-at public expense.

And yet the princes of wales generates far more money for the economy just by existing than probably the entirety of all the users of mumsnet put together!

her role isn’t a regular 9-5 job but it is a job all the same.

One thing for sure is that on an overseas work trip representing the monarch Kate will not be sadly saying 'no-one ever asks me how I am'.
