The royal family

Why is Meghan hated?

1000 replies

YourBrickTiger · 07/10/2025 13:26

I have very strong views about the Royals especially Camilla, however I am genuinely interested and want to find out more as to why Meghan Markle seems to be so hated. I'm asking in case there is something I have missed. I do read up as much as I can and watch shows from 'both sides' of the argument, but there is nothing that I have seen so far that warrants the level of sheer hatred geared towards her - I don't mean on here necessarily, but on social media in general. She cannot do ANYTHING without a swarm of people descending on her like vampires to tear her apart.

She isn't an adulteress, she's not a paedophile or sex offender, she isn't lazy, she seems to genuinely care about people in need.....and from what has been shown, she genuinely loves Harry and is just trying to make a life with him. He left the UK to start a life away from a nest of some awful people, his mother died when he was 12, his uncle is a sex offender, there is racism and a rigid set of rules within that family where he won't be king anyway so what is wrong with him leaving?

I'm not starting this to start an argument I am genuninely interested in why she is so rabidly disliked and why? Maybe I will start to feel differently if there is more of a reason but at the moment I cannot see one?

Exactly. Catherine very rarely shares an opinion publicly.

She knows what the UK public and press want. They want a woman who is second in line to her husband. Who is quiet and submissive.

I think the UK.public want a constitutional monarchy that turns up, shows an interest in the people they meet, and is directed by the elected government.

Host Trump or Ceausescu? Yes, if the government of the day tell them to.

There is very much a limit to the opinions any if them should express in public.

Thinking of the spouses of other powerful men like the PM, do you see their wives spouting off in public giving their own opinions? No, they are there to support their husbands (or wives). Dennis Thatcher didn’t say a word on his own views. That’s the way it works.

Both jobs are important to the company.

They CEO probably has a more complex skill set that is more difficult to replace. Which is why they get a higher salary, and why they are expected to make wider decisions the cleaner isn't asked to make.

I am all for a flattened hierarchy - probably why I have spent most of my working life in the voluntary sector! But a clear hierarchy, role boundaries, and decision making structure is important, it enables everyone to do their job well.

I wouldn't dream.of telling the cleaner at work what products to use etc. But when I managed the cleaner in a previous job I would have raised the issue of any unsatisfactory results. Because that was my role. I didn't have to be an expert in cleaning, but I was responsible for ensuring the standard of performance, just as my manager was responsible for my standard of performance.

Otherwise no-one can make a decision, and there's no accountability.

But everyone has value as a person.

In my opinion, I don't think that we need managers or bosses at all.

In my last job, when our manager went on holiday for two weeks, my team worked better than we ever did.

As we were not so stressed.

In my current job, my manager adds nothing of value, she just complicates everything. A lot of managers abuse their position and bully people "under" them.

I know so many people who have left a job because of the terrible manager.

That is because a hierarchal structure goes against normality.

The only time that i had a manager that really worked well , was because that particular manager saw himself as equal to everyone else. He didnt see himself as higher. That workplace was great, we all worked really well.

Anytime that i have worked under a hierarchal manager who thinks they are higher than everyone else, it never works well

So is the Princess of Wales not a royal personage in her own right? Just the wife of a powerful man?

Yes, this.
It’s a supporting role, not the starring role.

It could well be a different dynamic and a role reversal in private.

That’s true but being First Lady is quite an active role and she was a lawyer as was her husband.

I have no wish to argue over work rotas with my colleagues. It would be incredibly stressful, because some would be very self centred. Others would be very co-operative and want to achieve consensus, but ultimately with no decision maker the selfish people would dominate.

Who ensures H&S? Equal rights? When no-one has the authority to.make a decision, even a decision to comply with the law.

Who.is held accountable for any failures in delivery?

Baital · 21/10/2025 19:04

It's not about being 'higher'. It's about responsibility and accountability.

Yes, but all too often, managers start to see themselves as higher and better than those working under them, and they abuse the people working under them.

We have all heard about terrible managers.

I dont work in our finance department.

The manager in my finance department is a notorious bully. She bullys everyone that works under her. One of the women that worked under her had a mental breakdown. Another one went off on stress leave.

It's so obviously true. Truth hurts!

There is a HUGE amount of racism in the U.K.

People have been talking about the tv show the celebrity traitors this week.

The first two contestants to be voted off, were black.

Racism is everywhere in the UK.

My workplace for example has an anti-racism policy and training.

Which is bullshit because:

There are one hundred employees in my workplace. All of them are white. Not one of my colleagues are black. There is not a single black person that works in my company.

Edited

What are you doing about it then? Why aren't you asking for a "black" person to take your job for the good of society?

Do you have a "black" spouse?

Do other ethnic minorities get any of your sympathy, to just "black" people? Or are you lumping us all together as "black"? Is that the term your work training told you to use?

Have you travelled around the world as a person of colour? If you had, you would know that the UK is a comparative cake walk. Especially compared to the US.

Ok sure -

"Suddenly, there is panic -

American actress enters the fold of one of the most protected and revered institutions in the world. She has no blue blood, no inside information on the royals and has never been exposed to their lifestyle. There have been no chit chats around the breakfast table, no hush hush secrets to air because the insiders already know!

Oh no! Says Charles - who will soon be king - I'm a dirty adulterer who must deflect deflect away from driving my first wife insane and very possibly being involved in her death! I wanted to be my mistress' tampon and or trousers once! I kill animals and pretend I love conservation work! I know Trump is a dirty felon and sex offender but I have to do what I'm told because I have no spine and will just blame everyone else to take the shine off me la de da! I go on and on about how much I care for humanity but I will ride over the homeless in my gold carriage tally ho!!! I'm an absolute buffoon but I have to make everyone think I'm decent - jolly hockey sticks! I shall turn it all around now that my dear Mama has gone as vengeance for Andrew being the favourite and make sure all my disgusting behaviour is forgotten and I shall rule the kingdom with my dirt bird of mistress as I have forseen!

Oh no! Thinks Uncle Andy I'm a dirty sex offender and given half a chance I will keep doing it, sure no one will ever find out! I wish someone would enter the fold to take the heat off me!

Oh no! says Camilla - oh shit, I know I'm no queen, I know I'm a pathetic mess who has never done a day's decent work in her life, but I have to continue to live in Diana's shadow and pretend to be a decent human being by getting off my arse once in a while and showing up at the odd event. I know William and Harry secretly hate me - and why wouldn't they - I desperately need to conspire to find a way to deflect the hatred off me as I have done with Diana....mmmm let me conjure up a most evil plan.....if only there was someone else to blame...

Oh no! Thinks Kate - she is prettier than me! Wills make it stop or I will throw a massive tantrum! I will not be outshone by anyone!!!
Oh no! Thinks Wills - now Harry might be more popular!
Oh no! says Harry - does she know about my Nazi uniform?
Oh no! says Princess Michael - I don't want a black woman in the palace I'm going to wear a racist brooch and pretend I didn't realise
Oh no! says Prince Philip bugger this another would be Diana, how can we control this? She might find out that I make racist remarks all the time and get away with it! How can we go hunting innocent animals now when she is a huge animal supporter? Damn it!

"Ah HA! They all but Harry and the Queen collectively say - Let's all blame THE NEW GIRL! That'll do it, she knows nothing anyway and it will be fantastic fun! With the heat on her we can continue to be paedos! And racists! And animal killers and oh - freeloaders!! On with it fuckwits!! (says Prince Philip!)

I just wrote a pantomime!!!! :)

No, you just wrote a pile of deranged drivel.

Its very strange that you are angry at me. S

If you had ASKED me I would have told you.

After we had anti racism training and diversity training. I DID raise issues to managers About what i see as racism in our workplace. They did listen to me and they implemented some changes.

Given that we've just had the longest reigning female monarch, who was also very popular, I don't think that's entirely accurate.

Can you answer the rest of my post?

I don't really understand why the non-elected spouse should have a voice/platform. We don't give the spouses of PMs that sort of platform, so why do the spouses of elected presidents get them? The US is supposed to have 3 equal branches of government, but I don't see the spouses of the heads of Congress and the Senate having a platform, let alone a faux castle to live in. The US presidency increasingly looks like electoral king making to me, complete with "queenly" spouse, and expectations of generational succession.

In reality, all the roles apart from the Monarch are support roles.

With an older monarch, the next in line gets to contribute a bit more and I'm sure gets more of a say behind the scenes for issues which will potentially affect their own role. But the head of state is the job, and the monarch is the one to decide the level of involvement of every other member of the team.

Is that unusual where you are? I can walk into nearly every store in my local town and will only see white staff not through racism but because 99% of people that live in the town are white.
Some people just love to scream racism without seeing facts because it makes them feel superior. We had OFSTED in our pre school setting, in their report we were absolutely slated because we only had white children in our setting, they refused to acknowledge that we were on a military establishment and the pre school was for military personnel's children and none of the airmen/women posted there that had children were black. What the hell we were supposed to do i don't know and neither did they but slated us anyway.

Last census showed 82% of the UK population identified as white. So there will be predominantly white areas. But where the systemic racism comes into play is that non-white workers are paid less and hired less to managerial roles than white workers. So it's important to not just think in terms of numbers but in terms of equality across the whole working spectrum.
