The royal family

Why is Meghan hated?

YourBrickTiger · 07/10/2025 13:26

I have very strong views about the Royals especially Camilla, however I am genuinely interested and want to find out more as to why Meghan Markle seems to be so hated. I'm asking in case there is something I have missed. I do read up as much as I can and watch shows from 'both sides' of the argument, but there is nothing that I have seen so far that warrants the level of sheer hatred geared towards her - I don't mean on here necessarily, but on social media in general. She cannot do ANYTHING without a swarm of people descending on her like vampires to tear her apart.

She isn't an adulteress, she's not a paedophile or sex offender, she isn't lazy, she seems to genuinely care about people in need.....and from what has been shown, she genuinely loves Harry and is just trying to make a life with him. He left the UK to start a life away from a nest of some awful people, his mother died when he was 12, his uncle is a sex offender, there is racism and a rigid set of rules within that family where he won't be king anyway so what is wrong with him leaving?

I'm not starting this to start an argument I am genuninely interested in why she is so rabidly disliked and why? Maybe I will start to feel differently if there is more of a reason but at the moment I cannot see one?

Catherine does have a career! She just had a really long apprenticeship.

I think Meghan’s style and makeup/hair is an elevated modern look. Being slightly less done and natural is what a lot of younger women go for. Myself included. I thought it was refreshing to see a royal wear clothes that I actually coveted.

I don’t have anything against Kate but the coat dresses, prom hair, boring nude heels and wedges + blazers were extremely boring. I get she’s the future Queen so probably felt restricted in her choices.

Each to their own I guess. I’m only sharing my own experience of liking Meghan initially. Her fashion, career, mixed background and beauty styling are a part of what I gravitated towards at first

Same for me. I loved her fresh faced makeup look (still do) and her clothes & styling (less so now). She looked sexy and put together IMHO which shone a light on the frumpiness of the RF choices. C has had some stunning evening dresses but her day wear for me is so dull - but maybe she got the memo ‘don’t outshine the charity / recipients etc’ and works to that effectively.

That’s a great collection of styles - seems she dressed much better for rubbish damp cold UK weather than the sweaty, humid Cali climate.

I didn’t mean to sound harsh, @Lobas, I do actually take your point.

I think what I’m saying is that whenever a royal is “relatable” things go a bit south. It’s just not possible for them to be one of us, and it comes off phoney when they try it.

Our RF are part of an ancient history and tradition, that’s their USP. That they are a bit different from the rest of us is OK.

I don’t see it as harsh. I’m just contextualising why I initially liked Meghan and never really took to Kate.

That makes sense, though I think it's a little harsh to criticise Catherine for the lack of career given that she had to leave her job due to the media intrusion (which included daily groups of photographers and upskirting)

I don’t think I’m the first to call Kate a bit boring or lazy.

Before Harry married her and they moved to the USA,he was a very popular member of the Royal Family. Now his popularity has nose dived. It is only since he married her, that he threw his family under the bus. So many people think that she has been a terrible influence on him. Whether this is true or not,who knows, but this is the only reason that I can see. People love to blame the woman!

bluegreygreen · 13/10/2025 17:10

I think he had good PR from the 'men in grey suits' that he loves to complain about.

Funny how people have different perspectives. I don’t want royals who look and dress like me. I find Meghan’s style lacking in class and finesse, I don’t want our country to be represented by someone who looks like she might have been recruited for a reality show.

She has turned out to be exactly how she appeared from the first time she told everyone they were a couple. I can’t believe people didn’t see it sooner.

Who looks as if she might have been recruited from a reality show?

prelovedusername · 13/10/2025 17:21

For a reality show.

…and I think they really REALLY looked after him and his stupidity / over entitlement too by covering up a lot of bad behaviours

Meghan is trivial and inconsequential, which is completely fine for an actress or celebrity. It’s not fine for the monarchy to be represented as trivial. Their immense wealth and power and influence is not trivial. That’s what I’m getting at.

But she's no more 'trivial and inconsequential' than Diana, surely, or Sarah Ferguson, or any number of others who've married in?

Given that many people.on here are alarmed about their finances and are so adamant they are running out of money.. you might want to think again about their immense wealth 😆

Letmeoutodhere · 13/10/2025 17:45

I just wonder how Meghan would have responded to being called ‘M’.

Diana freely admitted on camera she was rather bored and needed something to do and raising awareness was something she was good at and in fairness she did it well

prelovedusername · 13/10/2025 17:49

Actually Diana was a staunch monarchist, she was very focused on her role and her work. She wasn’t the lightweight she was portrayed as being.

I don't think being a monarchist of any stripe prevents you from being inconsequential and trivial. She was a profoundly silly, immature, under-educated woman raised for a very limited kind of life, who, unsurprisingly, given her toxic upbringing, was extremely mentally fragile, and unable to deal well with an unhappy and very public royal marriage. Her dreadful taste in men arguably contributed largely to her death.

She wanted her boys to grow up within the monarchy and it's protection. I am surprised he wants to destroy something that was so important to his mum, her family were blue blood aristo's.

Edited

I think Catherine has done a great job. She has had three children, has been ill yet turns out time and time again for events. She has her individual patronages and involvements. We see the public face that is required of a Royal turning out for events and seems to excel at making others feel happy at these events. She has staff at home - so what? Many people do. I certainly would in her position.

He never wanted to destroy it - he loved it so much he wanted himself and Meghan to leapfrog two heirs to collaborate directly with the Queen.

Grandiose and delusional - as ever.

When this was refused they flew into Narc rage and flounced from the country pelting everything with lies, smear and insults just because the didn’t get their ridiculous fantasy demands met.

binkie163 · 13/10/2025 18:28

I was thrilled for H as I have customers in that circle who said no one would take him, it had to be an outsider.
In hindsight so many red flags but not really on my radar.
I was glad they decided to go and earn their own money, I thought good for them. Then the Oprah interview, I was actually disgusted with them and it's been an avalanche of shit ever since.
I hope that William looks at both Andrew and Harry as a lesson to make sure his kids are better equipped to deal with life and be financially independent.

wordler · 13/10/2025 18:31

I’ve always had the impression that Kate’s just not into clothes and fashion - if you look at any of her pre wedding outfits she’s very standard casual posh girl. And papped ‘off the job’ she’s either in jeans or long floaty maxi dresses.

I think she approaches all engagement outfits like a uniform. Clean bright traditional for day, ease of movement for sporty events, support British fashion, add in some appropriate country specific items on tours, shiny bling outfit to send the right message for evening engagements.

I don’t know how either Kate or Meghan manage public appearances in whites or creams without getting stains or dirty. I’d be terrible at it .
