The royal family

Why is Meghan hated?

1000 replies

YourBrickTiger · 07/10/2025 13:26

I have very strong views about the Royals especially Camilla, however I am genuinely interested and want to find out more as to why Meghan Markle seems to be so hated. I'm asking in case there is something I have missed. I do read up as much as I can and watch shows from 'both sides' of the argument, but there is nothing that I have seen so far that warrants the level of sheer hatred geared towards her - I don't mean on here necessarily, but on social media in general. She cannot do ANYTHING without a swarm of people descending on her like vampires to tear her apart.

She isn't an adulteress, she's not a paedophile or sex offender, she isn't lazy, she seems to genuinely care about people in need.....and from what has been shown, she genuinely loves Harry and is just trying to make a life with him. He left the UK to start a life away from a nest of some awful people, his mother died when he was 12, his uncle is a sex offender, there is racism and a rigid set of rules within that family where he won't be king anyway so what is wrong with him leaving?

I'm not starting this to start an argument I am genuninely interested in why she is so rabidly disliked and why? Maybe I will start to feel differently if there is more of a reason but at the moment I cannot see one?

I think the poster is referring to how she thinks Meghan has behaved, not you 😆

Well...I should hope so too! 😜

@YourBrickTiger @Mylovelygreendress is talking about M&H focusing on nonsense like lip gloss in their woe story isn't she (apologies MLGD if I've mis-sexed you there!)

Does the racist brooch incident and the various inappropriate remarks from Prince Philip make the royal family racist? I think it makes those individuals racist but it’s a terrible smear to put on an entire family. I am aware of some racist ideas held by members of my DH’s extended family, but I blame those individuals alone and do not tar the entire family with the same brush. I expect Meghan herself would reject the idea that she is accountable for the values or wrongs of those members of her own extended family.

CurlewKate · 09/10/2025 15:19

i think it’s wrong to say that the RF as a whole is racist. Obviously Prince Philip was-and I assume that many of the others had that upper class Colonial type of racism that wasn’t thought racist in those days. Not so much “I’m not racist, I have a black friend” but “good lord, what are you talking about? They are so grateful to us for all we’ve done for them, think of all the education and health care and administrative systems and trains and curry is delicious!” But I am pretty sure they would have found it very difficult to deal with having a non white family member.

You don't pay 12 million to shut someone up if you're innocent. You don't lose all your royal titles if you're innocent. He's also just been named in the Epstein files.

That doesn't make him a 'proven sex offender' it makes him an unpleasant, stupid, entitled, boarish oaf. A proven sex offender has been found guilty of a crime.
As for the Epstein files who isn't on them! Andrew was thick as mince to allow himself to be bought and manipulated like that because he was a greedy pig who couldn't zip it up, he wanted to show off and mix with millionaire big boys. He was definitely stanning.

Is Harry included in this?

Don’t minimise what he has done.

The lives of the sex trafficked young girls he violated had been obliterated.

His mother QE2 didn’t stump up £13million for nothing.

He only doesn't have a record because he refuses to cooperate with the US legal system.

You do not get a criminal record from a civil case.

It's a bit rich your post being deleted when there are some pretty outrageous libelous statements being touted as fact on this thread.

Again though, the criticism is valid. It maybe isn't right to have done it so publicly but the family's actions have been disgusting and I don't see why it is wrong to out that.

All the family ? Which ones? Which actions? Or are you following the script of the Oprah show?

Proven by who? Genuinely want to know.

The 'king' made a phonecall saying he wanted to be his mistress' tampon. Do we hear that still being talked about?

No he didn’t.

LaMarschallin · 09/10/2025 17:11

No he didn’t.

People really only hear/read what they want to hear/read, don't they?
God knows how many times that's been misquoted.

Yes, it’s baffling. I think Meghan seems ok.

ozarina · 10/10/2025 00:40

Poor Meghan - the gods conspire against her again. Getting a humanitarian award the same day a peace settlement is announced in the Middle East. 😬

Was it 13 12 or 7 million? might have been less no-one knows because they arnt allowed to release the details everyone is just guessing and PERSONALLY I wouldn't be very cooperative either if people were demanding I leave the safety of my country to travel somewhere so im under their laws not mine and I would be really annoyed if they ignored all the other potential criminals who live WAY closer than me

Superhansrantowindsor · 10/10/2025 07:08

I think some of it is racism. Some of it is because she is American. Some of it is because she seems very ungrateful. Some of it is because she’s a proven liar.
I read spare and came away from it thinking that Harry is far more deserving of criticism than her. I do think though that she is an actress playing the role of her life.

Lifestooshort71 · 10/10/2025 07:17

Going back to the OP, I don't hate Meghan but admit to being thrown by

  1. The way she controlled the engagement interview (didn't she realise she was the lucky incomer to this amazing institution? This is not a tongue-in-cheek remark!)
  2. The comments she made in the Oprah interview that were proved to be lies.
  3. The disrespect she showed during 'the curtsey incident'.....and.....
  4. When she said she was 'going to hit the ground running' as though the RF was going to get a much-needed shake up.

I'm in my 70s and grew up revering the Queen and being vaguely in awe of her family and I found all the above totally disrespectful. I have never hated her though (a word we weren't allowed to use at school) and, now my eyes have been opened to the behaviour of certain members of the RF, I just find her behaviour entertaining in a soap opera way. However, the most recent criticism of her appearance and behaviour in Paris have actually made me feel quite sorry for her, completely picking her apart - dreadful!

To be fair Harry gets just as much criticism as she does, every time he does something ridiculous he also gets criticised, Harry isn’t exactly loved whilst she gets criticised, as far as I can see they are equally disliked by the public.

I agree, for a small proportion it is racism, but I genuinely think for most people, the fact her mother and grandmother are mixed race, and her father and grandfather white, is really not something many people give a shit about or even think about. What people do seem to take issue with is their behaviour, both of them, Harry and his book, his awful mistruths, his indiscretions, Megan and her mistruths, her bullying accusations, and for both of them the ridiculous stuff they say and do, their poor work ethic and crappy programs.

prelovedusername · 10/10/2025 09:12

I don’t think it’s racism. Outside of three debatable media items which have been exhaustively discussed I’ve never heard or read any individual commenting about her racial heritage negatively.

I don’t think it’s because she’s American. Everyone loves Julie Montagu and had no issue with Autumn Phillips (Canadian I know but North American). We don’t have a problem with Americans who embrace our culture, just the ones who denigrate it.

I think it’s because she quickly revealed herself to be a good old fashioned gold digger. And even that wouldn’t have worried anybody if she hadn’t targeted a revered institution and then spat venom all over it when they got her measure.

If Meghan Markle had chosen any other millionaire nobody would have tuned a hair.

I first heard about her when Harry wrote that letter to the press telling them to back off from abusing her. Felt really sorry for her and for all the stupid nasty headlines the papers wrote about her in the build up to the wedding. Every little thing she did was torn apart even for things like having scented candles in thr wedding.

She's had more hate directed at her than could ever be justified.

But She's also very Hollywood, a self-promoter and in interviews she comes off as smug and self-involved. She's also been caught out in lies or half-truths. All of that makes her hard to watch/like from a British culture point of view. We value self-deprecation, and honesty. And we also value getting up and getting on with things so to continually rake up past offences done to you comes across as petty.

She's the kind of annoying that is satisfying to moan about in private but obviously the moaning isn't happening in private.

Still not saying all the hate is justified and people should just leave her alone. But that's my answer to your question.

This is exactly how I feel too. I don’t hate her, she’s just a particular kind of ‘goop-y’ Hollywood annoying that is very jarring to British sensibilities. Plus every project she’s done independently has been a bit crap (despite all of Netflix and Spotify’s funding and support). I don’t think she has great instincts for entertainment or personal branding, despite what she would say about herself.

I feel sorry for all the hate she’s experienced and the royal family must be very difficult to enter, but I don’t have any interest in anything she has to say, just like I have no interest in Gwyneth Paltrow and others similar.

I think that's the case for a lot of people. Very much a case of "Don't look at me! Don't talk about me!" when few people actually were.
She couldn't get the relationship into the public fast enough with necklaces, spooning bananas etc and that letter made sure that the fact she was Harry's GF was well established.

Back to the thread: no idea why they got this award and very much suspect it's a Pay to Play job.
Brown Sauce expressed it so well in "I Wanna be a Winner". They didn't want to do anything:
"Don't wanna dance like Fred Astaire
Be like Superman through the air
Don't wanna join Claire Francis in the riggings
Pot the black with Hurricane Higgins
Don't wanna ride like Willie Carson
Be a Bishop or an important Parson
Don't wanna hit Geoff Boycott for four
Knock Mohammed Ali on the floor."

Too much like hard work.

They:
"just wanna be a winner
Just a little Oscar please
Or a box of OBEs
I wouldn't mind if it was Nobel
Even Eric would serve me well"

"See one, feel one, touch one
See one, feel one, touch one
See one, feel one, win an award"

Great poetry of our time.

Eta
Oh bugger! Thought I was on the Humanitarian Award thread.
However, this wonderful song by Brown Sauce should reach a wider audience.
