The royal family

Why is Meghan hated?

YourBrickTiger · 07/10/2025 13:26

I have very strong views about the Royals especially Camilla, however I am genuinely interested and want to find out more as to why Meghan Markle seems to be so hated. I'm asking in case there is something I have missed. I do read up as much as I can and watch shows from 'both sides' of the argument, but there is nothing that I have seen so far that warrants the level of sheer hatred geared towards her - I don't mean on here necessarily, but on social media in general. She cannot do ANYTHING without a swarm of people descending on her like vampires to tear her apart.

She isn't an adulteress, she's not a paedophile or sex offender, she isn't lazy, she seems to genuinely care about people in need.....and from what has been shown, she genuinely loves Harry and is just trying to make a life with him. He left the UK to start a life away from a nest of some awful people, his mother died when he was 12, his uncle is a sex offender, there is racism and a rigid set of rules within that family where he won't be king anyway so what is wrong with him leaving?

I'm not starting this to start an argument I am genuninely interested in why she is so rabidly disliked and why? Maybe I will start to feel differently if there is more of a reason but at the moment I cannot see one?

Andrew is a proven sex offender. Why is that ok????

Because he's a man

Because it isn't proven in a court of law unfortunately we should not be stating it as factual however distasteful his behaviour has been/is there is no conviction against him and yes bla bla he settled our of court it was civil court

SynysterGates · 08/10/2025 18:38

Yes let’s not mention PA, we really must not mention the one who has actually done something wrong

The thread is about megan, I think everyone agrees andrew is a sleezy pig of the highest order, there has never been a debate about that, he is universally disliked. As previously stated any thread about andrew is in complete agreement.

Of course Kate can't say and do what she likes! She is very careful to behave appropriately. This is such a naive comment. I am staggered that Harry and Meghan have been able to do and say what they have. Publicly slagging his family off, writing a book full of salacious titbits and awful breaches of taste , lacking truthfulness and little more than tabloid fodder. I just cannot think of anyone else in public life who would be able to do and say what they have without repercussions. That's leaving aside the dodgy charities, the Netflix 'documentary', the fake Royal tours. Backgrid on speed dial etc etc. It's utterly repellent.

It is very toxic to tell people who have been abused by their family (your relatives leaking or allowing others to leak to the press about you from a young age is child abuse), racially abused on a daily basis (in the national press in the case of Meghan), told to shut up when they try to get help, let down thousands of times by said family who refuse to change, are brought to the brink of suicide, and who finally speak out about their trauma, which is actually part of the healing process (this does not normally happen in public but when you are in the extraordinarily unusual and odd position of being a royal whose own family are briefing against you on a weekly basis you kind of have to try and answer back in public) to basically shut up.

This toxic emotional shit actually impacts on every day people believe it or not. There is no shame about telling your story when you have been abused and neglected by your own family. Harry's is just a really odd extreme public form of this.

I'm not even a fucking fan of Prince Harry. I just possess empathy, that's all, and am not so bitter and twisted that I spend my time hating someone I don't even know.

If I were them I'd have made ten documentaries. I think they have actually been very restrained and reasonable.

I think if a lot of people (and honestly it seems to be women that really hate her) look deeply, it’s that they feel wronged somehow that this mixed race woman has even been elevated to the royal family in the first place (Prince Harry surely couldn’t have picked her!) and she doesn’t have the “gratitude” to put up and shut up when she gets abused in the papers and suffers micro aggressions from the other Royals.

I don’t particularly like or dislike her but it seems to me that her and Harry’s popularity was rising quickly and at some point (after the Vogue edit I think) she started getting slated for everything she did. The comparison between reporting on Megan doing something vs. Kate doing exactly the same is so wildly opposite, it’s clear a decision was made to tear her down.

Poppycock.

Yes exactly, and people fall for it every time

When, and by whom were they told to shut up when they tried to get help?

Harry went to his family to tell them about the racial abuse several times. The family offered no help, basically said 'why can't she just deal with it?'

My 'shut up' comment was actually about all the millions of posts condemning M&H for their Netflix and other appearances. My point is that this narrative about 'airing dirty linen in public' is a very toxic one.

Those who have been through estrangement recognise this pattern very well, unfortunately. It comes down to personal judgement what you believe.

BettysRoasties · 08/10/2025 19:29

Harry has no problem Suing papers and filing corrections these days.

His wife needed him to stand up for her, he just tried to pawn it off as someone else’s responsibility. He is after all a grown man with his own millions and legal team apparently on tap.

He knows his family motto and he watched what all the other women went through and saw whatever help they did or did not get and still made no plans of his own to fix it.

He lived in the dysfunction and knows exactly how it all works who to call and what to do.

The never complain never explain thing (which I’m assuming you mean by their motto?) doesn’t really stack up when they’ve made statements about such pressing matters as Kate’s hair extensions.

BemusedAmerican · 08/10/2025 19:35

She had a very expensive maternity package which included mental health services.

Yes - because the family where one member wore a literal racist piece of jewellery to an event where Meghan would be present, and another member had a history of offensive comments obviously sprang into action and defended Meghan from racist abuse.

Just as they asked the paps to leave Megan alone.

She got more protection that any of the other married in women and much earlier than any of them as well. They bent their usual for him and her.

She had as PP says a very experienced and likely expensive medical team the royals are also not afraid to talk about mental health these days they have access to the best to the best if they choose too.

It’s Harry’s job to advocate for his wife not his granny’s at the time.

Harry is the one who let her down if it is indeed the case at all.

NarnianQueen · 08/10/2025 19:42

But she didn't insult the Queen - at least not on purpose. Surely it was as clear as crystal that Meghan was mocking her own ability to perform a curtsey?

Why did Harry look so mortified then?

To me it’s clear she thought this would get a big laugh, especially from a US audience, poking fun at the absurdity of something the would associate with “medieval times” restaurants

It makes me want to vomit a bit to write this - Harry is the idiot who wore the Nazi costume after all - but what happened was he fell in love with Meghan and did everything he could to defend her. He was the one who decided to move to the US after she became suicidal and it was clear his family weren't going to lift a finger to stop the racist and dangerous campaign about her in the press. He knew they weren't going to stop until she went the same way as Diana. Everything he did before Meghan = idiot. Everything after Meghan = good husband and father. Yet somehow the papers loved Harry the lad, and not Harry who started speaking up about racism and bullying in the establishment... funny that.

I don't care about M or H, I have no interest in the royals, but no one should be put through what she went through, and it does matter for women generally. There are people who are manipulative, fake, ill-intentioned etc etc and they are male, wearing suits, sitting comfortably back raking in the millions off racist and misogynistic headlines (which are still going I notice) having a great time successfully pitting women against other women and whipping up racism. Meanwhile, Meghan just seems to want to make expensive condiments. The monster.

Well indeed they did have a whole web
page dedicated to it, about how they would still be doing work within and for the royal family while also doing their own thing.

Only once the queen said nope in or out where the family so horrible and mean and they couldn’t stay another second. They wanted their cake and to eat it fully funded.

They did have rather unfortunate timing with Covid throwing spanner’s.
