Meghan has just popped a video clip of herself in the back of a limo with her feet up travelling through the streets of Paris. Is this rather insensitive given the way her MIL died or is it perfectly normal to post such stuff?

Yes! No act of Parliament needed! Harry and Meghan must be and should be bricking it. I wonder if we will see them reign their behaviour in, this will definitely shake them up.

There’s no way that there isn’t crisis talks going on right now in Monticeto. A good team around them would be discussing contingencies for such an event and planning.

There clearly are no major obstacles to remove the Dukedom and other titles. Even though I don’t think KC will do it, there’s no doubt in my mind that William will.

It’s perhaps a reminder that it isn’t his birthright and he needs to start behaving. Doubt it though.

But at least they will both be having a reality check right now.

The African Parks scenario is horrible, and as a director rather than just a patron Harry is much more responsible than he was (for example) in Sentebale.

I suspect the biggest question for the Sussexes over the next 5-10 years will be the funding of charities linked to Archewell.

It will be interesting to see how Harry and Meghan fund themselves once Harry has received any inheritance from KC, that’s it for them on the royal gravy train, there will be nothing coming from William and once he hopefully formally strips them of all titles they won’t be able to cash in either.

Agree KC won’t do it but agree William will, he can’t have Harry and Meghan disrupting his reign which we all know they will do from the off. Not sure what contingency plans they could set up?

Discussing what name they will use? Try to preemptively cut them off by applying for American citizenship and making it look like they gave up the titles? That they are looking into legal remedies etc?

I mean I can’t imagine Harry volunteering to give them up, I’m sure it would have an impact on his visa status for one.

But they must know the writing is on the (faux Tuscan plastered) wall

Would MM be able to trade on her Duchess title if she and PH were to divorce (as per Sarah Ferguson?) - if so then this would likely be the biggest threat to PW - especially with the saturation of instant and constant 24/7 news and SM. It could muddy the BRF brand.

Does anyone really think of Meghan as 'royal' though?

She was only officially royal for such a short time. I also don't think a courtesy Duchess title is anything much to 'trade on' to be honest. Especially when it doesn't come with any tangible royal connections attached. 'Duchess' evokes crinolenes and musty stately homes rather than royal splendour. Meghan is clearly very attached to the title, but I don't think anyone else much cares.

Looks like it’s even easier to deal with a Dukedom than first thought.

From the Times:

‘Lawyers were called and loopholes of sorts were found. The dukedom would not be extinguished by an act of parliament but could, Charles was told, be formally withheld by removing the duke from the peerage roll. The prince title could be withdrawn by a royal warrant leading to letters patent, editing Andrew out of the George V 1917 letters patent that give the children of a monarch the automatic right to the title.’

So all that needs to be done for Harry, is to formally withhold by removing him from the peerage roll.

I wonder what all those posters who like to insist that Harry will always be a Prince and always be royal because “birthright” are thinking now 🤔

SF milked it and commercialised this title for decades post divorce - made and squandered millions using it. Less informed people (maybe in US or other areas) may not know the details so it has ‘currency’ with these targets - but my point is why should someone not just make money by having this as their brand but also risk tarnishing the actual BRF brand as the latter has zero control over their activities as the whole SF debacle shows? I think the PA move is a huge hint that PW will not tolerate H&M and will take every opportunity to both punish them and minimise their risk to his reign.

bluegreygreen · 31/10/2025 20:21

I don't think William will strip Harry of his titles - I think he will remain Prince and Duke of Sussex. I think Harry's behaviour has been horrendous but not on the same scale as Andrew's so he is not likely to lose Prince.
The Sussex Dukedom is so linked with H&M there would be no benefit in it being elsewhere. Losing the Dukedom would mean Meghan being 'Princess' which would be undesirable.

I think he will remove HRH from all and Prince/Princess from the children. I think the logic will be that they are not working royals and won't be in the future.
I've seen somewhere that William is considering keeping Prince/Princess from Charlotte/Louis until they decide if they want to be working royals when they're older. If this happened there couldn't be too much argument about removing the titles from the Sussex children.

Sarah Ferguson did use her Duchess title commercially but I'm not sure her various endeavours would have been more or less successful without it. What she was 'trading on' was really the remnants of her royal connections rather than the empty title. She'd still have got her sundry deals if she had just gone by Sarah Ferguson. That's what most people have always referred to her as, just like everyone calls Meghan 'Meghan Markle' rather than Duchess of Sussex or 'Meghan Sussex'.

I agree the Montecito duo will be feeling uneasy after Andrew's demotion but who knows what William may or may not do?

He loves a court case so I reckon it will be option 3!

A lot of the Andrew threads started elsewhere on mumsnet and got moved to the Royal board. It's not always easy to tell if a thread has already been started so i can understand the proliferation of threads for such a hot topic.

If I were Megan I'd be a little more careful about using my title anywhere near my commercial activities or my HRH at all. I think both she and Harry have been operating on the assumption that the palace won't take any action but that is no longer a safe assumption.

I can see this happening.

I don’t think he will remove Harry’s titles unless Harry ends up in the middle of a bigger huge scandal. But it’s now out there that it can be done so may work as a tempering influence.

I think William will make the Sussex dukedom non inheritable though - and will do the same for any royal dukedoms going forward.

And I think he will change the rules to only children born to the monarch get titles, and only grandchildren and great grandchildren of the direct heir line.

Not sure if he will implement that retroactively but it would allow Anne and Edward to keep their titles if he did.

William can't make the Sussex dukedom into a life peerage because it was created by the Queen as a heritable dukedom. The title would need to be removed and then recreated, and I can't see William going to that trouble.

Personally, I think Charles should be the one to issue LP's limiting royal titles to direct line grandchildren. Much better for it to be done now when the children affected don't yet exist.

Not sure if he will implement that retroactively but it would allow Anne and Edward to keep their titles if he did.

They were both born children of the reigning monarch though, so wouldn't be affected by this rule change. The ones potentially affected would be Beatrice, Eugenie and the Sussex children.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 31/10/2025 21:09

If I were William I would remove all titles from anyone who does not work for the crown or represent the government so that would be
Bea
Eugenie
Harry
Meghan
Archie
Lily
James
Louise (though I know they don’t use them)

In a new letters patent I would do the following
Only the first born of the Heir to be a Prince or Princess
Any other children born to the Heir would only take on titles if they become a working member of the RF as an adult.
Any spouse to the Heir would relinquish any title in the event of separation or divorce.
No Dukedoms or any other titles upon marriage.

Basically any royal title is a job title and nothing more, not a working royal then no title at all.

Doesn't that kind of undermine the whole concept of royalty though? The fundamental idea, for good or for ill, is that you gain royal status through who you are born to, not what 'job' you do.

If royal titles are basically job titles, then why can't anyone apply for those 'jobs'?

Also, royals are known to retire and take time out from being 'working royals'. What would happen to their titles then?

BigWillyLittleTodger · 31/10/2025 21:32

I can see why you think that but these past few years have been so incredibly damaging that I think streamlining the whole system is much needed. If a royal retires after a lifetime of service I suppose they could retain their title or they could be given some honorary title as a recognition of their service to the Crown. I don’t look on it as anyone could then apply for the “job” you still have to be born into it or marry in to be eligible no different to now, it just gets rid of the hangers on using titles for their own gain and not the country’s.

Streamlining, definitely.

But making royal titles contingent on 'work' is messy and as I suggested, potentially a slippery slope.

Better imo to just restrict royal titles to the children of the monarch and only the direct line grandchildren, as is the practice in most of the European monarchies. I also think the practice of handing out peerages on marriage needs to be retired, or at most life peerages only.

Looking clean would be a start. Honestly don’t you get tired of defending H and M over every little thing?

Im not defending them per se. Im defending the fact that teeth don't need to be destroyed in order to have perfect white teeth cos people like you judge on it.

Well what is looking clean? White teeth? Teeth arent that white naturally. Any dentist will tell you that.

Better late than never!

It was quite the choice to allow Andrew to issue the initial statement...I mean KC3 is King so he needs to do the job including censuring family members when needed. To be so behind public opinion shows how insular KC3's team is and I do hope he shakes up his advisory team. IMHO, since Andrew insists on his innocence, he should co-operate with the justice system...if a trial was ok for KC1 then it is more than ok for Andrew, if it comes to that.

As for H&M, they are nowhere near A&S but they are a generation younger and as @BemusedAmerican has pointed out, they have already garnered a track record. Similar to A&S, H&M are willing to glom onto billionaires for money...see Tyler Perry who is facing a $260 million sexual harassment lawsuit.

I also think a big axe will come down on the non working royals and their titles.

I was also thinking…..what will happen in that case to Megs wedding dress, if she isn’t a titled royal. Wouldn’t they just return it to her, rather than keeping it in the Royal Collection or wherever it is?

BemusedAmerican · 31/10/2025 21:56

I live in NYC. Every time H & M come to the city after the alleged car chase, we provide them with an enormous amount of security. People are being attacked and murdered on the subway but they have a calvade to escort them around the city.

It also really pissed me off to have someone whose visa is being investigated calling the First Amendment bonkers, on the board of the Aspen Institute, and standing on the ruins of houses when the owners weren't permitted to visit.

I've spent two years working with asylum seekers from Ukraine, Mali, Sudan, etc. Who want to learn English and are working crap jobs while living in sketchy housing while trying to become legal.

So yes, I'm interested in H & M because my taxes literally pay for him.

Typos.

BemusedAmerican · 31/10/2025 22:02

If H were really concerned about his safety, he could move to a state that allows conceal carry, stock up on Kevlar and other body armor, and carry some guns. There is a respected bag maker that makes lovely canvas bags configured for conceal carry. He can carry a man- purse and be safe.
