The royal family

Is Meghan a narcissist?

I keep seeing these reels and social media smears on Meghan being a narcissist and abusive partner to Harry. She certainly doesn't seem overly popular with the royal family or understood the expectations of her as a royal when she married him.

I'm by no means a royalist or a fan of Megan's. But I'm the same age as Harry so always felt I could relate a little to him. I haven't read his book or watched the netflix docs.

The main thing that doesn't sit quite right for me is they wanted a 'private life' and then done anything but. Did Megan use Harry's desire for privacy to isolate him from his family and friends?

I think it is too easy to conflate Andrew and Sarah and Harry and Meghan . I think both have behaved badly ( and guess who I think is the worst ) but I am not sure there is a direct comparison to be easily drawn. A sense of entitlement and thinking being born a prince or marrying into it & so you have hit the jackpot -I think pertains to both. But I think H & A and their wives can be criticised but not always blanket criticism.

Yes-have the Sussexes appropriated public money, paid off a victim of sexual abuse and put the national security at risk? Or failed to pay their bills to numerous small businesses?

Well who knows ? There's a load of unsavoury words out of Chad currently. Time will tell.

I’m not sure although unlike Harry I don’t think Andrew would have wanted to leave the Royal nest so threatening him with exile and being iced out of all the fancy royal stuff might have worked with Andrew.

But I do think that’s why Harry was so shocked when his father stopped his allowance from the Duchy of Cornwall when they left because the Queen never stopped supporting Andrew from the Duchy of Lancaster.

Charles however had fairly open public reporting of his Duchy of Cornwall accounts and he knew it would look terrible to continue funding ‘the household and office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’ to the tune of 2-3 million every year if they weren’t doing any work for the country and were potentially making millions overseas.

The Duchy of Cornwall funds are explicitly intended fot ghe PoW to use to fubd his family, though. Whether they are working Royals or not. The funds are in lieu of the lands and assets PoW would otherwise have inherited and been able to 'settle' a parcelmon a child upon marriage.

It all comes back to the need to modernise the RF in terms of our expectations of them. The spares don't inherit or benefit from family money in the same way their peers ( e.g. the chidren of the Duke of Westminister do). They are trammelled in what work they can take on because they must avoid being perceived to be using their RF status. Meaning they are never going to be able to earn enough money to keep themselves in the style they are accustomed to.

So they run the risk of dedicating themselves to RF duties ( not gonna mention Hull or rainy or Tuesday) and then finding themselves shunted around grace-and-favour homes on a budget in their old age.

The current RF funding model ( the private fubding, not the Civil List) was put in place at a time when every child of the Monarch would have had rich aristocrats vying to marry them.

I hope William has got a plan...

I agree, but why can’t non working members of the family get a job? There is nothing to stop them doing that. Why must they advertise milk or sell their stories to Hello? They go to the best schools, they can get a degree and work like everyone else. They just don’t think they should have to, and that’s the problem.

How much public money was squandered on that wedding they said they didn’t want? The “spectacle”.

There have been rumours about Harry getting up
to no good with women.

Harry’s meddling in places like Jamaica, Canada, Nigeria, Ukraine, making promises on behalf of his father, undermines the head of state’s authority. His words on the Commonwealth undermines the UK’s political and economic interests. I suggest you read the two articles by Mark Toth of The Hill about the security risk they pose.

And how much money was generated from that wedding back into the economy? Lets offset that first and see what was then squandered.

Ahhhh the old fav rumours....Just like the rumours of William being up to no good....

Yes, I understand that Charles would have been legally ok to keep funding Harry as he had been based on the rules of the Duchy but because he’d been releasing his accounts each year and was specifically naming that part of the budget as funding the office/household of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, I think he personally saw it as ‘wages’ for his adult sons in return for their work. So in his mind no work, no wage.

I think Anne is a good example of finding a way to balance the optics and a more regular life. Queen bought her a working estate and she’s managed it as such - it’s allowed her to provide housing to her children and grandchildren.

She likes to keep busy so has always done Royal duties from choice rather than need. She gets travel expenses from the SG and security for royal engagements. I presume she might get a stipend or ‘wage’ from Charles through the Duchy of Lancaster for her working engagements.

Hopefully Louis and Charlotte will find a field of work they can immerse themselves in that they love and find success in, that they can also support George if he needs it later in life but that they don’t need to be ‘on the payroll’ like Andrew and Edward.

As usual you don’t understand the point. The question was what public money they had appropriated, not whether it was offset by the public coming out in droves to support it (so much for racist Britain hostile to a black princess). They said they didn’t want the wedding they presumably organised - the spectacle - and that they had already married privately. So the entire thing was a waste of money, wasn’t it. But hilarious that you suddenly acknowledge the wealth the royal family generates for the country.

Yes, if only William had form for consorting with strippers, taking drugs and falling out of nightclubs, someone might take seriously those rumours you Sussex supporters like to propagate.

At least they're still married! What about the 'squandered' money on all the rest of the Royals who then got divorced... Charles, Anne, Andrew. They all had massive 'spectacles' then got divorced! Andrew after only 6 years!

I think it's unfair to criticise harry and meghan for their wedding. Just my opinion.

I don’t remember Charles , Anne or Andrew referring to their weddings so disparagingly ?
H and M wanted Westminster Abbey or St Paul’s - even more of a spectacle !

jumpingthehighjump · 08/10/2025 20:07

All the royal weddings are spectacles.

Lots of them do have jobs though.

Harry is a CHIMPO
Meghan is an influencer
Peter is an MD at a sports management company
Zara is a professional equestrian and a director at Cheltenham racecourse
Beatrice is a VP at a software company
Eugenie is a director at an art gallery
David Linley is a furniture maker / designer
Sarah Chatto is an artist

All of them have proper jobs except perhaps Meghan and Harry.

Who’s left? Louise and James are in education, Anne, Edward, Sophie, William, Catherine, Charles, Camilla all working royals. Obvs Andrew is unemployed after effectively being sacked, but he was 60+ then so hardly likely to turn up on the tills at B+Q. He worked in the past as a Navy helicopter pilot and working royal.

Harry doesn’t have a job. It’s a meaningless title that requires no work.
A wannabe influencer more like.. that isn’t a job
Beatrice and Eugenie seem to spend most of their time on jollies so not jobs as anyone else understands it. The others do have jobs apart from Andrew and Sarah.

NormaMajors1992coat · 08/10/2025 20:35

Should probably include the other partners..

Peter’s fiancée is a paediatric nurse
Mike T is an ex professional sportsman who has a podcast, does public speaking and is developing a new rugby league
Edo is a properly developer / designer
Jack works in sales and marketing
Daniel Chatto is an artist and teacher

NormaMajors1992coat · 08/10/2025 20:37

What jollies do Beatrice and Eugenie spend most of their time on? I never see them anywhere except the odd garden party when required.

Doorbellsandknockers · 08/10/2025 20:38

We cannot know.

They have independently wealthy husbands and I guess probably move in circles with other wealthy individuals who tend not to seek publicity, unlike celebrities.

NormaMajors1992coat · 08/10/2025 20:42

Yes I agree - just wondering what jollies they get up to and how anyone would know, they seem pretty low key.

They seem to be on holiday nearly all the time. At Ascot, attending Royal events, etc. They aren't working Royals .

I think their lives in the past were geared that way.

Edo is from great wealth & normal ‘9-5’ norms don’t apply to him or many/any of them.

How do you know when they’re on holiday, is that from their instagram? I never see that reported but I’m not the most dedicated royal watcher. They do all like to turn up at Ascot don’t they - not sure if they all just like it or if it’s a family tradition or a three line whip that they should all be on show. I don’t think they go to any royal events though, except the odd garden party in the summer? And the family ones like the Carols / Easter service / weddings and funerals etc. They don’t go to Trooping or Remembrance afaik.

CatchingtheCat · 08/10/2025 22:16

It won’t be ‘holiday’, it will be ‘life’. Holiday suggests you are having a break away from something rather than just temporarily relocating to your house in London/Bahamas/French Rivera

Did any of them complain about their weddings being spectacles they didn’t want, like Harry and Meghan did? Did any of them claim they’d already in fact got married, so the taxpayer funded one was a big fuck your joke on us idiots who watched?

Beatrice had a fairly modest wedding with a borrowed dress. Though I think that was mostly down to Covid.

Ooh-what women has Harry been “up to no good” with? I love a bit of gossip!

And yes- I think ridiculous amounts of public money are squandered on royal events like weddings and banquets and so on-I would stop the lot of them tomorrow if I was in charge. But I thought the Royalist point of view is that it is all worth it because tourism and soft power. Despite there being no evidence at all to support that.
