A space for thoughts.

My first is that being at Windsor might make it easier to host a foreign leader. Which then begs the question as to whether in the modern age we really need Buckingham Palace. None of the royals like living there and I bet you'd make a fortune hiring it out for events and tourists.

Whilst i find Catherine's coat dresses a little boring it makes sense to have a sort of uniform.

Charles, William, and Camilla haven’t faced an 18-month bullying campaign like Catherine has, starting with the whole “Where’s Kate?” debacle. Kensington Palace had already made it clear she’d be out of action until Easter, yet people went hysterical. People were posting wild theories that she was dead, that she had left William, that he had beaten her, or that he was having an affair. Celebrities mocked her online, people went out to “find” her, sneaked photos of her off duty, and then poured over them, claiming it wasn’t her or using them to prove their conspiracy theories. It even leaked into traditional media, forcing her to reveal her diagnosis before she was ready, just to protect her children from the chaos.

Since the actual revelation, there’s been ghoulish speculation about her appearance (too thin, “haggard,” wearing a wig), comments that she looks ill or tired (well, duh, she’s recovering from cancer and chemo and she’s publicly acknowledged that some days are harder than others) claims that she’s more ill than she says, that her marriage is falling apart and that William is cheating on her. She’s even had people try to access her medical records for God knows what reason. People call her lazy, and that she’s “using cancer as an excuse.” I saw that exact comment on here recently and thankfully MN deleted it.

It’s quite obviously a calculated attack on Catherine by Sussex Squad and it’s very transparent when it’s happening.

So yes, that’s probably why people have issues when commenting on Catherine’s appearance.

Tbf, the king is also recovering from cancer.

Yes he is. But he’s not had an 18 month bullying campaign against him because of it. You would have understood that if you read the post properly.

I do take your point, the whole thing around her illness was hysterical. However, that is the machine the royals play with and they did not handle it well PR wise.

I think William wants his position, perks but he wants to set the rules, it doesn't work that way. If William continues to try and make the rules around access, PR etc, then I think he's in for a hard time of it. He really needs to come to terms with the world he lives in. He really should have walked away before he had kids, why he didn't abdicate is beyond me. Not only that but Kate married into this s**t show.

I can assure you, I am no Sussex Squad member, I think those two are utter twats.

sminted · 18/09/2025 10:55

Oh god, does it always have to be about squads!

Why can't we have Royal threads where people aren't in any squads?

DontReinMeIn · 18/09/2025 10:57

sminted · 18/09/2025 10:30

Speaking of people looking ill, Trump looks remarkably well for someone pushing 80. I wonder if it’s because he’s tee-total.

I thought this, he looks pretty good for his age, maybe the fake tan helps. Probs also has tweakments.

He looks awful! Being obese isn’t looking well!

VanessaSanessa · 18/09/2025 10:57

Sorry, I didn't mean abdicate, I meant step out of the line of succession.

sminted · 18/09/2025 10:58

Exactly, it was a PR fuck up but that's also the nature of being Royal, the press can be good & bad. The Royals got a much harder time in the press when I was growing up.

sminted · 18/09/2025 10:59

He looks awful! Being obese isn’t looking well!

I thought he had the stats of a 19 yr old athlete! 😆

A bit of fat fills you out at 80

I once said I didn't like a particular dress Kate was wearing and I was accused of being Sussex Squad. Utterly ridiculous! I can think a particular style of ONE dress didnt suit her and say so, without being Sussex Squad!

Opinions are allowed on a forum....

According to him. He is obese. He is clearly struggling with his health. He eats a diet of McDonald’s and coke. He is not a healthy man.

I haven’t seen a bullying campaign. Unnecessary speculation in some sections of the media but the public seem to have been generally empathetic.

I did read your post. I just don’t agree with you. No need to be rude.

Letmeoutodhere · 18/09/2025 11:02

VanessaSanessa · 18/09/2025 09:19

It's what the UK does, soft diplomacy and it's done very well. It's cringeworthy however to be bowing down to the Orange one but rolling out royalty is the trump card so to speak!

I am reading Norman Baker's book at the moment, And What Do You Do. I'm on chapter three and I want to abolish the lot of them.

Melania's wardrobe has been strange, the hat was comedy. I don't think Kate looks well/healthy at all, there's something off. And by expressing that opinion, I'm genuinely not having a go.

I think William, Charles and Camilla look well.

Charles looks at least ten years older than he is and really does not look well.

TheQuirkyMaker · 18/09/2025 11:07

I feel sorry for the elderly Royals, forced to live in those draughty old castles and palaces. I'm sure if they were moved to nice modern flats on estates in, say, Edinburgh or Windsor, they would be happier and more comfortable. And the thousands of rooms they own but do not live in could be used to house the homeless, maybe the homeless veterans that they say they love.

VanessaSanessa · 18/09/2025 11:20

Letmeoutodhere · 18/09/2025 11:02

That's fair enough.

I always find it hard to decipher how he looks.

I mean there’s literally a thread on here where people were all gleefully speculating that she was wearing a wig. Only it turned out it wasn’t. Her hair went a bit poofy in the humidity and the sunlight (and possible media) made it look blonder than it actually was. But yeah, there’s definitely no bullying campaign against her. And I guess the whole ‘Where’s Kate’ fiasco never happened either?

Not liking an outfit is fair criticism. Saying someone looks haggard and unwell isn’t, especially if you know that person is recovering from a serious illness. There’s a difference. That’s one of the reasons why i prefer to comment on the style thread, they criticise the clothes not the person.

Barbadossunset · 18/09/2025 11:27

Thequirkymaker Does that apply to anyone who lives in a house bigger than they need?

NewAgeNewMe · 18/09/2025 11:28

Not forgetting the dreadful racist stuff from that Scobie toad, though people thought it was Kate, PoW could also have meant Camilla, as at the time, as well as Duchess of Cornwall, she was also PoW but didn’t use the title.

Mind you I’d not believe it of the king either, so I suspect it was a load of rubbish or came from concern as to what the press may be like.

VanessaSanessa · 18/09/2025 11:25

Of course not. Like I said previously, it’s quite obvious to tell when someone is SS. They are very transparent in their attacks. Luckily they are what I like to call a vocal minority.

Do the comments of a few oddly obsessed people constitute a bullying campaign? I don’t think so.

I just find it bizarre that there’s these labels - Kensington whatever v Sussex squad. It’s insane.

jumpingthehighjump · 18/09/2025 10:39

Why do you say that?

Can't someone point something out on here without silly comments like yours?

And if you read my post I was beyond complimentary about what was the Princes Trust.

No one ever took offence at any remark not applicable to them.

Sussex Squad chose that name themselves. As far as I know, there aren’t any other squads.
