The royal family

Prince Harry has just donated 1.1 million out of his own money to children in need

This is bigger than any donation from William or Charles to charity.

Megan has consistently rolled her sleeves up, she's literally turned up with food to feed the homeless on Christmas day and to feed and try and empower those forced into sex work.

William is funded directly or indirectly by us tax payers

The UK would make more money from tourism without a royal family.

Why are there daily hate posts on Harry? He's not costing us anything.

so not their private money?

So yes, their private money if they donate using those funds.

I assume W & KCIII don't pay income tax. Harry as a private citizen does pay income tax. I, a humble US tax payer, itemize my taxes and deduct my charitible donations. I assume that Harry does the same. For me, it makes a difference between paying and breaking even.

They do.

but where does that money come from?

Where does Harry’s come from?

Because tourists could then go round all the royal palaces.

😆😆😆

Where does Harry’s come from?

Charles
Diana’s will
The Queen Mother’s will
Other Trust Funds incorporating monies accrued from aspects of the slave trade
The British tax payer re elements of the above

pilates · 13/09/2025 07:58

H has to be seen to be making an effort with daddy because that is the nice guy he is - not!
Plus there is inheritance to be considered here. 🐍

Precisely!

Some of his supporters seem to think it’s all from “Spare” and a couple of Netflix shows…

What I don't understand is, if the money was donated in December, why announce it now. I wondered if this was because he was hoping someone might leak it, but they didn't so he had to get the PR some how.

Cosying up to the BBC seems cynical. It would be worth looking at all the articles about Harry from the BBC since December. Just saying.

It's takes 10 seconds ofn googling to find out that he does ....

I'm duly chastised. I'm impressed they pay income tax.

If Harry donated the money in December 2024, then he would have deducted it from his 2024 taxes and would have already reaped the tax benefits.

My suspicions are that this year they were expecting great successes with all of Megains flops and assumed they’d be the belle of the worlds ball, that’s all
gone to shit, so I suspect he’s scrambling for something to say about donating money so it takes the financial heat off him asking g Pa for Dollar last week … which I think he almost
certainly did

NormaMajors1992coat · 13/09/2025 12:47

Absolutely.

H: Meredith, won’t people assume I’m asking my father for money when I go to ask him for money? They’ll think I’m a failure.

M: Hmm yes. Let’s announce the children in need thing.

H: But that was nearly a year ago

M: Doesn’t matter - as long as it enables the morons to pipe up with “he literally just gave more than a million pounds away” when anyone suggests you’re skint and tapping up your father - it’s all good.

Thedom · 13/09/2025 15:59

Harry probably handed over 600K of his own money after tax deductions in the UK. I also wouldn’t be surprised if he managed to get some sort of tax exemption in the US on the same amount, so possibly its the tax man in both countries who coughed up the bulk of the donation.

”The tax relief you get depends on the rate of tax you pay. To donate £1, you pay:

  • 80p if you’re a basic rate taxpayer
  • 60p if you’re a higher rate taxpayer
  • 55p if you’re an additional rate taxpayer”
MinnieCauldwell · 13/09/2025 19:13

Surely all of Harry's money is inherited/gifted? The only money Harry earned was in the army, hardly millions. If I had inherited those amounts I probably would have done a few big donations. Though not to CIN!

Before being too impressed, it's worth noting the crucial bit in BusWankers's link:

"There is no legal obligation for the King or Prince of Wales to pay tax. Since 1993, however, the Monarch and her or his heir has voluntarily paid statutory rates of income tax on income from the Duchies and earnings from personal investments but not on the Sovereign Grant"

Try suggesting to HMRC/IRS that your tax payments should be voluntary and see where it gets you ...

BemusedAmerican · 13/09/2025 19:39

But has he paid back the legal fees he owes the UK from the lawsuits? I would personally pay off my debt before donating such a large amount.

Moveoverdarlin · 13/09/2025 19:40

It’s the least he can do baring in mind all the upset he’s caused.

But you’re not the monarch. Or the heir to the throne.

I saw this on Twitter.

Prince William:
Donated
£4.37 million to @HomewardsUK
£2.2 million to the @Earlychildhood
£1.78 million to @united4wildlife
£1.5 million to Community Impact and Emergency Responders
16 London Borough Homes valued at > £5 million for young people.

So the ‘working royals’ donate too. Excellent.

I was taught that for years ‘the sun never set on the British Empire’. I think all of the people in the UK should be a lot better off with what was brought back from afar - not just by royalty. The country shouldn’t need donations after hundreds of years of colonisation of other countries. It seems like the wealthy didn’t and don’t share it fairly? And now they are able to donate what they earn from Duchys. The rich run circles around the rest of us.

It’s why I think Harry isn’t broke. He’s been brought up in that environment. Learned at the breakfast table. He is used to having people care for his money and make it grow, just as they all are. The Royals have a reputation of being careful with money. My guess is Harry has quite a fortune by now. Not Charles or William rich of course, but he wouldn’t be losing any sleep at night about how he’s going to pay the bills by now.

Even Andrew with his highly fucking questionable ways and his spendthrift (according to ‘Entitled’) ex-wife has managed a lifestyle in a whopping big mansion that he wants to keep for his children. There must be a huge trust there if the ‘girls’ are going to keep it.

I'm more impressed, rather than less, that they pay tax when they don't have to!

I thought William gave his million from the newspaper case to charity?

Pretty sure he donated it to Invictus . He also donated his Air Ambulance salary to charity .
