Are you saying that Andrew didn't have sex with 40, or indeed, ANY women whilst in Thailand?
Saying 'things are not always what they seem' does seem to suggest that.

No, of course I’m not saying that - I wasn’t there and don’t know Andrew. Butthat applies to all of us - none of us know what happened, do we? It’s just a general caution that judging without all the facts isn’t generally wise.

Well if it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck...

Sorry I will judge him, taking into account all the rest of his behaviours

I’m assuming you know we would have to pay MORE tax if we didn’t have a royal family? They bring much more money into the country than they are given - they are actually very good value. Plus they do a lot for charity.

But it's OK to spend that money on prostitutes?

There are a lot of myths there. The tourist element has even been discounted by TouristBritain.

A relative of mine spent a few frustrating years trying manage PA. At the time (must have been c.2000) he commented to me in a fairly guarded way that he was far more out of control and profligate than was in the public domain at the time. He loathed PA as did all his colleagues and PA was widely considered to be thick as a plank, a total liability as a representative and VERY expensive. Impossible to do anything about it if, unlike PA, you need to keep your job and pay your mortgage.

A lot of men go to Thailand because it's easy and cheap to pick up girls and boys. Difficult to prove that any offence was committed under Thai or UK law.

When was this meant to have happened (Is there any proof that it did?) was Andrew on the civil list at the time?

Andrew always seemed to me like a big baby with an inflated opinion about himself. He did redeem himself a bit for me in the Falklands war, a pity he didn't carry on in that sort of roll, it gave him a purpose and real ordinary friends.

I've long thought that it's a very peculiar coincidence that so many of the royal family join the armed forces and miraculously find themselves in prestigious positions such as pilots and not, say, the mechanics, logistics, cooks, infantry, signals etc that most recruits are much more likely to end up as. Can't imagine why.

Does that include the revenue that the country would gain if we repatriated all the properties, land and gold the royal family have stolen accrued over the years and either sold it off or turned it into tourist attractions?

CathyorClaire · 22/08/2025 20:16

judging without all the facts isn’t generally wise.

Well in the unlikely event this grubby alleged episode transpires not to be the case, A really only has his own well-documented grubby behaviour over decades to blame for it becoming believable currency.

Prior to Newsnight A was due to be bumped up to the rank of Admiral as a 60th birthday present 😐

You really couldn't make this shit up 😂

Yes when his father died he ran off to the tailors sharpish to get his Admirals uniform run up for the funeral then wasnt allowed to wear it!

AgathaCristina · 22/08/2025 20:43

This is outrageous. The idea that royals should still exist in the 21st century is absurd. Strip them of all their privileges. let them live and work like everyone else!!!!!! Less Wembley events and more real work!

If Prince Andrew can spend public money on hiring escorts and still remain a royal, while the rest of the family does nothing, it only shows that they either condone his actions or are guilty of worse themselves. Enough is enough!!!

Well quite. They own the entire coastline ffs.

I mean, technically they "own" the entire GB +UK landmass - when you buy a freehold property, you're in absolute terms only buying a subsidiary interest in the land, because all land belongs to the crown. But in addition to that they themselves have total ownership of the coast.

For the people, we only became citizens thanks to the EU - prior to that we were subjects.

Andrew Lownie and Tom Sykes, to name two, have acquired the facts from separate corroborated sources.

Whaaaat? That’s insane! I wasn’t aware of this.

So when Lownie said each time Andrew stuffed up, his mother gave him another award, he really meant it?

I have a feeling that even if the evidence was indisputable, you'd still say, "yeah, but no but"..you just don't want to accept that a member of the Oh So Perfect Royal Family is guilty of such things.

Yes don't most of them have to leave the army because they are too dim to pass the higher level exams? The thing is most people are 'average' and have to work hard to get qualifications/achievements so its more about working hard and practice but they don't need to because there is little to no consequence for their lack of aptitude or effort. Especially if they are just handed Admiralty's as a birthday present!
