I followed all the Private Eye shenanigans and don’t remember many heartfelt tributes. I was amazed when everyone went into shock about the pensions as Private Eye had been on to it long before until Maxwell used the power of the courts to shut them up. Then it wasn’t long after his death that the pension thing came out and the brothers were then prosecuted. He was a horrible bully and a crook and that’s the least to be said about him.

Anne Robinson (then a print journo and not a dodgy TV quizmistress) who had worked for him at the Mirror was extremely fulsome. Several politicians across the spectrum were very complimentary too until the news of the pension scandal broke a short while later, when of course they all had egg on their faces.

There's an anecdote about during an interview with someone on the roof of the Mirror building he whipped out his todger and pissed onto people walking by far below. He also made a lot of money publishing Ceauscescue's collected works in English. I think he was also a Labour MP at one time. That said monster that he was he had John Pilger and Paul Foot writing for the Mirror way back it was a great paper.

I agree. From what I’ve read her devotion to her father was unhealthy and seems to have been mutual. Few men she met would be able to match him in her eyes , or actually to stand up to him - he was a notorious bully to his family.

But she adored Epstein, even when it was obvious he wasn’t going to give her the relationship she craved. He wasn’t a one-woman man, to say the least.

When it comes to Maxwell, Andrew has nothing to offer her, whereas Trump holds the power to ease her pain if he chooses.
