Does anyone else remember that in Finding Freedom, the authors mention a royal making a joke about Harry and Meghan by comparing them to The Prince and the Showgirl? I always imagined it was Prince Philip — trying to be clever, referencing the 1957 Marilyn Monroe film where she plays a glamorous chorus girl opposite a stiff, aristocratic prince.

But if it were Prince Andrew who said it, I can imagine the tone would be completely different. I can easily picture him making a sleazy remark referring to the 1995 film Showgirls — mentioning strippers, pole dancers, lap dancers, and the like. That would fit with the crass comments he’s known for, especially as described in this book.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if Harry has decked him in the past - Andrew is a twat and Harry is known to have nasty temper and be easily provoked.

Well I doubt as queen she will be expected to join a rugby podcast and sound like an expert in the course of her constitutional duties!

She will surely be expected to converse confidently and intelligently in the course of her 'duties'. Depending of course which causes she chooses to promote. Otherwise we get into Hilary Mantel territory. They all need to be more than ceremonial figureheads to be relevant in the 21st century, in my opinion. I do give King Charles great credit for his Princes (now Kings) Trust and Camilla with her championing of literature.

Paula M on YouTube has just done an episode about an 'absolutely filthy' Meghan ex tape, allegedly filmed in 2012 by a Hollywood porn cameraman. She says the original and two copies exist and whoever has them is on the verge of releasing them. My hunch is that the Andrew-Meghan link is Epstein and that H&M are desperate to hush it up as it will trash their reputation still further. This book is very bad news for them if this is true and able to be evidenced.

I don’t like these salacious rumours tbh. It’s on a par with those awful surrogacy rumours imo.

H&M are friendly with the whole York family and have holidayed with them. They were prominent at the wedding. I think they're very intertwined. By contrast, Fergie wasn't even invited to W&K wedding.

The lack of invite for Fergie always struck me as odd.

Prince Phillip wouldn’t be under the same roof as her which is why when she was at Balmoral for Christmascshe wasn’t allowed to stay in the main house. she stayed in a small cottage and the girls visited her there, as did the late HMTQ for afternoon tea or lunch.

Public speaking is a skill that can be learned - surely she should want to improve her skills in that area? How is she going to manage when she's Queen Consort?

I think she manages well nowadays. The original comments were in relation to her engagement interview with William, which would have been her first public outing.

I think she’s absolutely great now and it’s just my personal preference but I like her low-key, self-effacing style in public. She gets it - official duties aren’t usually about focusing attention on herself. F she were super-slick and loved the sound of her own voice I wouldn’t be so keen.

I think it is probably a bit of grandstanding on the part of the Sussexs', doubt it will come to anything beyond a letter written by a lawyer. Why announce to People that you have sent a 'letter from a lawyer' 😀, if it was truly a serious legal matter, they would be announcing a lawsuit not a 'letter from a lawyer'.

I doubt he will take it anywhere near a judge, a bit like his legal threat to the BBC when they reported he didn't ask the queen to use her nickname for their daughter. Lots of bluster for show.

Hopefully the mail will publish the 'letter from the lawyer' 😁

Edited

God I hope so!

Reminds me of this episode of the Windsors

Charles didn't serve though, did he? He just has the uniform as part of his ceremonial roles. I don't know if he even went to Sandhurst..?

The KING did serve and he attended RAF Cranwell the RAF version of Sandhurst, as well as the RNC Dartmouth which is the Naval equivalent of Sandhurst . He’s also a qualified military jet pilot as well as military helicopter pilot.

I’m not expecting her to be a gifted orator, but one of the things that private schools usually instil is the ability to speak in public. The POW is good at off the cuff chats with the public- it seems to come naturally to her. Not so good at delivering a speech.

I hate to say it, but I have no sympathy for the York girls, we know they accepted cash and jewellery from Andrew's 'friends'. No doubt, they have also accepted plenty of favours.

I agree.

He served his country as a member of the armed forces just as today’s sailors, soldiers and airmen are said to be serving their country even though they’re not going to war.

And does not going to war during the years you’re a serving soldier, sailor or airman make you any less of a serviceman? I think not.

There’s currently a thread where people are speculating on the name of the woman Mylene CompletelackofKlass has mentioned in a story regarding her ex. So many innocent women are having their name bandied about and I just can’t understand why you would do that to someone. Maybe it’s a generation thing with me but no, just no no no!

I’m no fan of Meghan’s at all but I draw the line at talk of Yachts and I’m glad Jeff nipped the that aspect of the thread in the bud because it’s just not on and I don’t want to be associated with it at all.

If it had been Edward I would agree, however as it’s Andrew it doesn’t stack up at all, I mean Harry wasn’t bothered about slapping an innocent Taylor Hawkins from the Foo Fighters, why has he got his knickers in a twist about Andrew?

Maybe he doesn't want to be seen in the same light as William who allegedly punched him into the dog bowl and ripped his necklace? Waaaah!

Because it leads to Meghan. It's that simple. If there was a fight and alleged things said about her background...Harry can't have that.

It’s obvious that she is learning. Not that it will make me think badly of her one bit if she’s still very uncomfortable doing it when she’s the Queen Consort - I’d just feel very sorry for her that she has a job where she has to. I’d run a mile rather than do it.

Yes, immature privileged white bloke talk, isn't it?!

White bloke talk? 😳

I'm reading several comments here about behaviours PA allegedly liked - fart jokes, sex jokes whatever. I'm not commenting at all on his sexual behaviour but I think much of the comments etc are not confined to white men of a certain class or public schoolboys ! I've met many public schoolboys including my sons and they cannot be lumped into one group like this. As to adding their colour - you think black or Asian men don't make sexual comments? I'm not trying to derail here but it makes me uncomfortable seeing some of these generalisations.

I'm not defending Andrew either. 🙄

LidlAmaretto · 03/08/2025 19:28

On the other hand I feel for Beatrice and Eugenie
I suspect the apples don't fall far from that tree. What are they doing gadding around the middle East for ' work' when neither of them are qualified in anything and coincidentally not only had their bankrupt mother got a £5m house but their shady as duck father can suddenly raise the money to stay in his massive mansion? They were busy innocently fluttering their eyelids when thousands of £ turned up in their bank accounts mysteriously and middle aged men ( Epstein and Weinstein) were invited to their teen birthday parties.

Ok point taken. I was just referring to the privilege of these rich white men. I am well aware that these attitudes exist in non white men, for the record..

I’ve noticed she has a very soft, girlish voice (which is pleasant - I’m not knocking her). And I’m not using’girlish’ in a pejorative way - it’s an objective description. It’s what you might call a ‘head voice’ rather than a ‘chest voice’ and she could develop and change it with professional help as Mrs Thatcher did when she wanted to be taken more seriously as a senior politician.

But why should she? Quite honestly, I value authenticity in public figures these days. We’re surrounded by curated images and fake nests, so if the P’ess of Wales is a slightly hesitant public speaker, good for her. I’d rather that and that she’s sincere and her true self than she had training to turn her into the generic speakers we hear amongst politicians or on TV.

FenellaFeldman · 03/08/2025 19:40

I agree with you, @LidlAmaretto , those women (they're late 30s, not girls) are involved in this and have culpability.
