apparently the author will be serialising his new book in the dm weekly!
thought we might like to follow the snippets 😁

White bloke talk? 😳

I'm reading several comments here about behaviours PA allegedly liked - fart jokes, sex jokes whatever. I'm not commenting at all on his sexual behaviour but I think much of the comments etc are not confined to white men of a certain class or public schoolboys ! I've met many public schoolboys including my sons and they cannot be lumped into one group like this. As to adding their colour - you think black or Asian men don't make sexual comments? I'm not trying to derail here but it makes me uncomfortable seeing some of these generalisations.

I'm not defending Andrew either. 🙄

Not all public schoolboys of course. Or even most. But there is a particular type of posh boy who does go in for a type of sexual/scatalogical
humour coupled with very confident manners. Several of us on here recognised it immediately.

CoffeeCantata · 03/08/2025 19:42

OMG…bloody autocorrect!

Fake nests?? Fakeness.

And when I checked it had changed girlish to girlie, which has completely different connotations. Dearie me!

CurlewKate · 03/08/2025 19:47

CoffeeCantata · 03/08/2025 19:40

I’ve noticed she has a very soft, girlish voice (which is pleasant - I’m not knocking her). And I’m not using’girlish’ in a pejorative way - it’s an objective description. It’s what you might call a ‘head voice’ rather than a ‘chest voice’ and she could develop and change it with professional help as Mrs Thatcher did when she wanted to be taken more seriously as a senior politician.

But why should she? Quite honestly, I value authenticity in public figures these days. We’re surrounded by curated images and fake nests, so if the P’ess of Wales is a slightly hesitant public speaker, good for her. I’d rather that and that she’s sincere and her true self than she had training to turn her into the generic speakers we hear amongst politicians or on TV.

To be honest, when she’s Queen, I want her to come across assertive and strong on the public stage. And she could learn to.

Unfortunately she's never struck me as someone who has any desire to do that sort of thing. She seems like she'd be much happier just living in the countryside with her family and pursuing her hobbies without any sort of royal role.

Just as well women don't indulge in crude jokes,(much). We sit around discussing cake recipes and making jokes about vanilla extract versus vanilla essence.

The good thin about this book for the author is it doesn't have to be true merely believed. You could write your own version using charge adding in a few new stories and have a best seller.

I’m not expecting her to be a gifted orator, but one of the things that private schools usually instil is the ability to speak in public. The POW is good at off the cuff chats with the public- it seems to come naturally to her. Not so good at delivering a speech.

You’re obsessed with the POW. I don’t get it

jeffgoldblum · 03/08/2025 20:12

I’m going to say something that might get me jumped on , and could be seen as classest! , as normally I don’t say these things forgive me!

im not shocked about it @CoffeeCantata, this humour is typical of the stereotype of the braying upperclass male who went to an all boys public school!
I’ve heard it , I’ve seen it ! , normally when they reach andrews age they grow out of it! ( or reign it in!) , times have indeed changed but apparently for Andrew he has stayed emotionally in a time when he was the centre of these circles, everyone else has moved on , he apparently hasn’t!

I’m going to assume you disagree with my post too then @victorianbaby?
as you disagree with those posts agreeing with mine.
im Talking about a particular set of over privileged , powerful white males who doesn’t receive censure or punishment because those who teach them or serve them wouldn’t dare!
I have never witnessed a poc male behave this way because there was very few during Andrews school days!
I will take your word on that , I cannot comment for two reasons 1 I haven’t seen it and 2 as a white woman I am confident that my criticism of said poc males would be subject to cries of racism .

Catching up as per but why on earth might Harold be so exercised over allegations he gave his hideous uncle a slap when he's on record as exhibiting similar behaviour to both his protection officer and a random pop star?

Maybe there'll be something that makes it make sense posted further on 😁

Or you accept that she’s better one-on-one with people and not as strong at giving speeches. I read somewhere that it’s not so much about how you say something, but what you’re actually saying. I’ve seen people who are great at delivering speeches, but it’s just word salad — and they struggle with genuine one-on-one interaction.

CathyorClaire · 03/08/2025 20:30

Thedom · 03/08/2025 15:13

According to Newsweek, it's the Daily Mail they have sent legal letter to, no mention of Andrew Lownie having the honour of getting one (yet!!! ).

Absolutely bizarre.

Maybe because it's only DM who have published so far.

The actual book isn't due for release until 14th August.

I'm marking the date in my upcoming vexatious legal actions diary 😁

BigWillyLittleTodger · 03/08/2025 20:32

Why does Catherine need to come over as assertive and strong? She isn’t going to be Prime Minister.

CathyorClaire · 03/08/2025 20:36

But I go back to my previous question: why is he so very different from his siblings? For all their faults, I’m not prepared to believe that Charles, Anne or Edward share the same vulgar, crude and boorish character as Andrew. I think it’s got to be more than just being mummy’s favourite when a child, or being considered the best looking of the bunch when young.

I think we're back to to the eternal nature v. nurture question 🤓

I feel really strongly about this!

I think she is strong. She asserted herself on the funeral walkabout with the Sussexes, for example. But strength manifests in different ways. Quiet, apparently-shy people can be very strong- they’re just not loud or performative about it.

And she’s presumably going to be consort, not the monarch, so constitutionally she shouldn’t be too dominant. This shouldn’t be confused with suggesting that a woman should be subordinate to her husband- Prince Philip and Prince Albert before him had to watch their step as mere consorts and famously found it difficult!

Edited

Yes, I agree, As consort it’s more important for Catherine to be good at the one-to-one interactions. She’s going to be mainly in a supporting role, but is perfectly competent to make a speech herself when she’s on a solo visit.

i see no problem whatsoever!

It’s so tantalising to know just how he became the wonderful, inspirational man we read about in this article!

I would guess, probably unfairly, that he’s the least intelligent of the siblings, and in his situation (unearned privilege, the deference of staff and ‘commoners’, being assigned roles for which he is completely unqualified and untrained etc etc) this deficiency has produced a monster of horrendous proportions.

CathyorClaire · 03/08/2025 20:51

Mylovelygreendress · 03/08/2025 15:13

As I have said before, I am pretty sure that Andrew and Meghan have some sort of history and that A knows stuff which H and M would prefer to be kept quiet.
Just my opinion .

But why then would Henry shake sleeping dogs out of their slumber with legal notices?

It's not like he doesn't have recorded form for being a bit handsy and all other things being equal, slapping Randy around would win him a lot more popular credit than being dumped in a dog bowl with a broken necklace.

Thedom · 03/08/2025 20:56

I think Catherine has overcome a lot of her shyness in public speaking, but mostly she comes across as genuine and sincere, she is not arrogant or self promoting and she seems quite gentle. People relate to her, even if she isn’t the greatest public speaker on the planet.

Bring back that laughing emoji! This made me spit out my drink…

What a turn of phrase!

To be fair I think it must be hard for any parent to admit they’d borne and raised a bad’un and I do wonder how much HMQ was (ironically) “spared” of his behaviours by coutiers who tried to contain him as well as they were able, rather than be frank about his actions
Couriers have said that Andrew would not listen to anyone about his behaviour, saying that he would only listen to The Queen. She would always back him up. She was complicit in his behaviour and allowed him to treat her staff appallingly.

H&M seem to not like the boot being on the other foot now. Things said about them and they aren’t happy. The Oprah interview is what sticks in the mind about H&M for me.

Maybe, but I bet a) he was on his best behaviour in the Queen’s presence (not perfect, just not at the level others report) and b) the Queen probably WAS given a censored version of his crimes.

One can only assume that he's never heard of the Streisand effect @CathyorClaire

Plus those dragons aren't going to slay themselves.....
