Netflix deal is over

  • Both decided a statement won’t be released “Publicly, there will not be a statement and of course, if things change dramatically, they’d be open to a one-off project down the line.”
  • Talk about Paramount plus

It’s been pretty obvious for a while. No talk about the Archewell productions arm, the film they were making etc.

How long can As ever last when they won’t have NF to back it up with WLM infomercials.

Just the other day, live coverage of the Turnberry golf chat with Keir Starmer and the dissection of the free-wheeling Q&A drowned out all other news.

I somehow managed not to see it. Was vaguely aware they'd had a chat while Trump was in Scotland. Did the BBC do live coverage?

off topic, but doesn't Jessica Mulroney's husband (forgotten his name) look like his dad!

I am not sure about BBC or general UK media coverage but would expect that since the PM was present, there would have been some coverage from a public interest perspective. IMHO, it is also likely that Trump's rather direct remarks about the Mayor of London would have generated some commentary from UK talking heads.

Apologies if I was unclear but I meant for my post to refer to the US media market that H&M are desperately trying to gain traction in...see twerking video release.

Because Trump has form for announcing new policies via tweet or at a press conference, the nation pays attention as policy changes can impact the cost structure, profitability and viability of people's businesses and job prospects. Governing in such a unique way over a $30 trillion dollar economy is unprecedented...and Americans...and I guess the world...are just trying to make the best of the situation!

HonoriaBulstrode · 31/07/2025 13:24

friend of senior Nazis to the extent of "socialising" 😁

Which of course the security services and the PM must have known, but couldn't say publicly. But put together with Edward's lack of discretion and carelessness with official papers, of course it was a totally unsuitable marriage. They were fortunate that the 'twice divorced' argument was enough to put the CofE and a big enough proportion of public opinion against it.

When Harry takes her to Althorp, and finds her kneeling on Diana's grave, clutching the headstone and asking for guidance.... It's quasi religious in the behaviour and iconography, and not at all healthy.

I'd say it was calculated and manipulative on M's part, deliberately playing on H's vulnerabilities.

DelectableMe · 31/07/2025 13:59

I agree with you on all points, @HonoriaBulstrode !
Government papers indicate concern about the security of State papers in the red dispatch boxes. Who was seeing them besides Edward?
Ribbentrop, a close friend of Wallis, stayed with them at Fort Belvedere.
Not good for national security.

40coats · 31/07/2025 16:20

I think it would be very strange to try and draw similarities between herself and Wallace but maybe American history is more kind to Wallace than British?
Re the dress not been her style she was heavily pregnant.
I don't think she's ever really found her own style. She often fails to look well put together in occasion clothes. Her clothes often look ill fitting and creased.
What suits her best in my opinion is the casual look she had when first dating Harry. The jeans and white shirt combo on their first public outing was one of the best looks I've seen on her.

Profhilodisaster · 31/07/2025 16:31

I doubt she was channeling WS , she probably hasn't even heard of her, given that she knew nothing about Harry until she married him.

You are right!!
as she said.. as an American she didn’t really know much about the royal family at all!

I think - as has been hinted - that Ribbentrop was more than just a friend to Wallis!

CoffeeCantata · 31/07/2025 17:09

I agree that Meghan's knowledge of modern history - or anything cultural really - doesn't seem much in evidence!

Now, she did have Dior copy an actual outfit of Wallis Simpson for the Platinum Jubillee. It was that white coat-dress with the high collar (under which lots of people think she had concealed a mic) and the 'bracelet sleeves'.

What can we conclude from that? Either she knew her history and was making a rather insolent gesture to the RF, or (and I don't know which is worse) she was pig-ignorant and just thought 'Wallis and I are both American and known for being chic, so I'll just push my luck with the budget and get Dior to copy one of her outfits'.

I can see why people think she was imitating her in that black floral robe she wore to the OW interview...I wonder?

DelectableMe · 31/07/2025 17:12

Oh my god, @CoffeeCantata , I genuinely don't know which is worse!

I appreciate the last bit was probably irony, Profhilodisaster, but I'd be amazed if someone hadn't mentioned the Edward/Wallis tale to Meghan at some point, given the parallels with the earlier prince wishing to marry an unsuitable woman who he later gave up his royal life to be with

Like others I've not much time for this "Ooooo look, she wore a white shirt just like Diana" thing, but equally I wouldn't put anything past her if it offered a chance of sneering at someone she'd fallen out with - and let's face it there have been plenty

HiRen · 31/07/2025 17:30

Meghan was 100% channeling Wallis Simpson and Diana in that interview.

From the moment the British press started turning on her, she was ready to cut and run (I think she was still giving it a chance for that brief period around the wedding when it seemed the nation was in love with her and she was making Catherine look dowdy and drab in her frock coats and actually looked like the rising star of the RF. But she was flailing around behind the doors of Nott Cott and in the presence of W&C, all the bullying was happening and she wasn't in control. Not a feeling she likes. The decision will have been easy).

Since the Oprah interview she hasn't said a word publicly about the RF, other than (what she thinks are) cryptic references to her time in the family here and there. Radio silence during Spare, no public statements around QE2's funeral just the appearances, not at Charles's coronation. Nothing other than bland wishes for a speedy recovery for Catherine some time last year which I'm pretty sure will have been instigated by Harry.

She hates - HATES - the lot of them. She's adept at dropping people she no longer wants in her life. She doesn't want any of Harry's family in her life, she doesn't want the British people in her life. She only ever looks forward to her singular goal of fame and money in a small circle in California. Meghan is for Meghan. So much so that the channeling of WS at the time of Oprah was a deliberate "fuck you" to all of them: you expelled Wallis and Diana, but I'm in control here and listen to me dump you. I'm out like these two women, and it's my choice (and I think she said later that after that interview she had nothing more to say about the whole RF debacle). She's on record as knowing exactly how each and every handbag and earring is scrutinized in the press, she knew exactly what she was doing with that dress and that eyeliner, and saying the things she said.

I'm confident that in the Olive Garden house, she will be wondering why Harry cares so much, why he's going back now and begging, telling him to take control of his life just move on. She doesn't realise that he wants to go back because he loved them and they loved him: he wants that back.

I don't think it's obvious to Brits in the UK just how irrelevant the country is to 99.9% of Americans. Meghan has used, dumped and ghosted the entire nation and its monarchy. She got what she wanted, she's moved on.

DelectableMe · 31/07/2025 17:12

Oh my god, @CoffeeCantata , I genuinely don't know which is worse!

It was a jaw-dropping choice! I don't know what her intentions were but it was either rude or tactless.

That was the occasion that she and Harry were booed on leaving the ceremony. But the real shocker was the very real possibility that they were both wearing mics! If you watch her arriving she's fiddling about with her collar, there's a bump in her coat lower down and I think you can actually see H's mic at one point.

That was the occasion when they'd deliberately (according to Tom Bower) missed the charabanc for minor royals, leaving from t he Wellington Barracks, which they were supposed to be on. They arrived late so they could walk in splendid isolation down the aisle and were then put out to discover they were seated in the two and threep'nies with all the minor royals. They fussed and tried to get better seats, but were told to go and do one (I paraphrase).

They are a pair of prize numpties really. I bet they got absolutely nothing on record if they were wired up because their seats had been very strategically chosen and they were surrounded by royal insiders, including that incredibly dishy equerry to KC....who sat behind them and kept a beady eye on them all the time!

DelectableMe · 31/07/2025 17:32

Just when you think their behaviour can't get worse!

CoffeeCantata · 31/07/2025 17:37

@HiRen

Agree about M's attitude to the UK.

And that's why I hope KC has absolutely NO truck with any kind of reconciliaton.

I'm not just being spiteful or blaming the woman here, but really, I don't see how any rapprochement can be possible while they are together. And before pps jump on me and say I'm wishing they divorce - no I'm not! My wish is for them to stay together, never bother Salty Island again, be happy with their children and live in comfortably wealthy obscurity.

That's not the same thing as saying that I see not chance of any thawing of the ice towards Harry while he has Meghan in tow. And then, only a private familial and very cautious re-connection with legal protection for the RF.

ETA: I posted a photo of the white bandage top but it doesn't seem to have worked! Maybe it'll arrive in a bit.

There's no way this was a coincidence.

She's said she knows the power of clothing, she's said she spends ages browsing brands and designers, we know she's been on Instagram since its inception, we know how manipulative she is, we know what she wanted from the RF. She was deliberately aligning herself with Diana after she exited the RF, whether to say she was as much a victim as Diana or not. But this was a deliberate choice soon after her post-RF life started.

I don’t care about the UK being irrelevant to Americans but it does boil my blood when I find Americans spouting crap about the RF on social media.

Great post @HiRen, I agree with everything you say. She is deliberately channeling WS, no doubt about it.

MaturingCheeseball · 31/07/2025 18:00

I just read - whilst looking at something totally unrelated - that Wallis Simpson’s real first name was Bessie.

I think we know someone else who didn’t think their first name passed muster…

Hoolahoophop · 31/07/2025 18:07

Is Bessie short for Elizabeth? I'd take either over Wallis!

CoffeeCantata · 31/07/2025 18:08

DelectableMe · 31/07/2025 13:06

I found the whole Diana dominance such a strange part of Spare.
When Harry takes her to Althorp, and finds her kneeling on Diana's grave, clutching the headstone and asking for guidance.
Putting the pregnancy test next to a picture of Diana in the hope of a positive result, having her picture in the labour room
It's quasi religious in the behaviour and iconography, and not at all healthy.

And all totally calculated and manipulative.

Hoolahoophop · 31/07/2025 18:14

Calculated and manipulative, who knows, probably. But totally performative definitely. I cannot imagine how anyone could take it seriously, and if they did, not be put off by it. But lots of things in spare made me think WTF.

HonoriaBulstrode · 31/07/2025 18:16

I think she was still giving it a chance for that brief period around the wedding when it seemed the nation was in love with her and she was making Catherine look dowdy and drab in her frock coats

Catherine who was pregnant for all but the last 3-4 weeks of her engagement?
