Soaking jam into toast sounds all kind of wrong. It needs to sit proudly on top of a layer of butter!

What exactly do you mean by this statement?

I think it means you are more discerning 😊

But don’t forget, it’s a spread NOT jam

Yes, but I eat St Dalfour products, which are spreads, and they nestle beautifully on top of the butter on my toast without soaking in or falling off. Meghan's spread sounds more like a runny compote or sauce.

LaMarschallin · 11/07/2025 12:32

Sounds like it's a syrup or sauce NOT jam OR spread.

Well yes ! The clue is in the name .
a “spread “ is supposed to be spreadable, you shouldn’t be able to pour it out of the jar like honey or syrup!

Actually I’ve just checked , that’s a screenshot from an ad on the web page. You can see it on mobile too.

It's from the As Ever insta.

The ingredients are so basic though, maybe no thickening agents.

Yes, as ever used a screenshot from the web page. The web page contains Google ads. If you take a scroll yourself without ad blockers you will see the same “Ad” written beside each (annoying) advert.

I think this is right actually, it would temper expectations on consistency.

Fruit comes with its own thickening agent. It’s literally how you make jam. The sugar is the preservative. 🤣

Anyway it's not the main point. The main point were the comments 😂

Shes so elder millennial sometimes, it’s eye roll inducing.

The ingredients list pectin!
do you know about jam making at all?

no, that’s why I said “maybe”

tataler · 11/07/2025 12:43

Well I can educate you then .
as @Serensterrightly pointed out fruit contains natural pectins that causes it to thicken when boiled at the correct temperature with sugar.
however some fruits do not contain enough to achieve this so a lot of jam makers and commercial makers add pectin to achieve the desired consistency, the fact that Meghan listed pectin on the ingredients makes it’s runny consistency even more baffling!

I think it’s cheaply made!

RandyRedHumpback · 11/07/2025 12:51

I think lemon juice as well, @jeffgoldblum is a thickener? We know Montecito is full of lemons!

Thanks for the explanation, maybe she ought to up the percentage.

That would increase the production costs. See above - it seems to be cheaply made.

I don’t know, even the Times and WaPo liked the taste just fine, maybe they can fix the consistency issue.
