The Era of Joy didn't last long.

This is going to be interesting, it's going to be a full on PR onslaught for the next few months, and then we will have Harry launching his very own 'commercial project'.

Clearly an article straight from the Office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, giving an exclusive to the DM.

Well I guess it's more hands to the pump, but as usual the Mail's trying to make much out of very little - though if recent rumours are true about Netflix continuing a contract with Meghan alone I can see there's a need to pretend Harry's good for at least something

PR can do a lot, and doubtless the credulous will buy whatever the new spin is, but to me it looks like a rescue attempt bound to fail just like everything else

And while I'm convinced Charles will still be sending money I'm not sure what would be in it for any friends to bail them out? Where's the payback with a couple who've achieved so little?

MayaKovskaya · 25/05/2025 10:33

BoredZelda · 25/05/2025 09:27

Ahh, the Daily Mail never fails does it? Writes a piece full of nonsense, (probably “sourced” from within the RF) so people can paste the link and have everyone who believes it, salivate over it and post their vitriol.

And you all fall for it hook, line and sinker. 😆

Shooting the messenger?
Is it not true?
Oh and H&M are very happy to give stories to the DM, or any magazine or outlet that will pay them. They don't appear to rise above it. Or much.

MayaKovskaya · 25/05/2025 10:37

Why do Harry and Meghan fans always blame media outlets? Even ones which the duo collaborate with?
Is it because they're increasingly hard to defend?

HonoriaBulstrode · 25/05/2025 10:40

.....and post their vitriol.

Bingo!

If recent rumours are true about Netflix continuing a contract with Meghan alone....

I can't see why they would. What has she got to offer, when NF can afford to pay for people of genuine talent and achievement.

Baital · 25/05/2025 10:46

I think the comparison with Camilla's image rehab is a good one (and also Sophie after the fake sheikh imbroglio).

Do the unglamorous 'turn up and show an interest' jobs without a film crew. Stop promoting yourself, Stop chasing media attention.

Accept it will take time - years - to change public perceptions. In fact, it may never happen, so stop chasing public approval. Get involved in causes that mean something to you, and do what you can to help them and get satisfaction from that. Enjoy your children, in private.

If you can't afford your current lifestyle, downsize rather than chasing a fast buck.

Well good luck to them, they wanted to go earn their own money and thays what they are doing then hope it works out for them. They seem to have different personal interests in terms of their work so makes sense they have their own team of people.

You like the idea of royalty being royalty for commercial gain?

I’m more of a ‘Down with this sort of thing’ and ‘Careful now’ person.

There’s quotes from the Sussexes’ representatives in the article, BoredZelda….

Aye, but Zelda’s post gave the thread a bold early play of ‘vitriol’ for the scorecard.

VITRIOL ✅

Pleasealexa · 25/05/2025 10:49

So if this crack team has been in the background why couldn't anyone of the 11 people stop Harry from whining to the BBC after his latest court failure?? The interview was a total disaster and sealed his reputation as a whining, entitled idiot. Add in the ring doorbell incident which took his reputation below ground

If this "crack pr team" were not appointed then he has acted rashly in appointing them. If they were appointed and advised him, they are clearly useless or he refused to listen to them.

I can't see anything good happening from this vast staff..other than cash down the drain.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/05/2025 10:50

Neither can I, @HonoriaBulstrode, and I was surprised to see the bit about the "success" of As Ever Meghan considering how it tanked in the ratings, but that's why I was clear about it only being a rumour with the usual unnamed "sources"

Unless of course Netflix perceive there's an even bigger story coming up and are hoping for some sort of exclusivity ...

cremebruleee · 25/05/2025 10:53

I don’t like either of these two but I think Meghan’s As Ever thing obviously looks very swish, though it’s massively cringe from a uk perspective, but it appeals to a certain demographic of people,’ mostly middle class, conservative Americans. I think she could be quite successful with it if she kept it a bit lowkey and relaxed, focuses more on the guests than herself (and stops putting dried weeds on everything). But what on earth does Harry think he’s going to be selling us!? He has no charm or charisma, he’s not particularly attractive, he’s never really got anything interesting to say. I don’t know who he would appeal to. I’m so confused about how they go about things. They have two young children, more money than a hell of a lot of normal people and could be enjoying their family, travelling, playing the sports they like, a lovely home, some lowkey charity work, without the constant trying to promote themselves as massive celebrities. It’s really odd.

MayaKovskaya · 25/05/2025 11:02

You'd think so, wouldn't you, @cremebruleee .
Mystifying.

I agree it is really odd. From the article: Harry wants to “find a new way of getting his message across. Service above oneself is the cornerstone of everything he does” - what message?? What sage words does he think he has to offer the world? How has he been of “service” to his community these past few years? I don’t understand where this belief comes from that they think they have anything to say that people need to hear.

Me too. Harry and Meghan are the worst kind of royals because it's entirely for personal gain. I suppose a certain kind of full on Royalist would support them.

It’s staggering that they still have so much self importance. He’s really struggling to accept that he’s a washed up has been.

Baital · 25/05/2025 11:06

He said in the BBC interview that he had been in service for 35 years at the point he left the RF, aged 35.

I.e. he provides 'service' just by existing, he doesn't have to 'do' anything other than breathe.

Has been a butler or a footman or something unbeknownst to us?

Looking at the photos of their employees on 'six figures' , the thing that jumps out is there is not much diversity there at all, pretty much all caucasian, no black employees in their top team. There are so many rumours about Meghan being racist, and time and time again you see the evidence as to why people think that.

I don't understand how she and Harry are held up as anti-racist icons by their superfans.

The only POC she's interested in are billionaires/multimillionaires who can boost her profile: Oprah, Tyler Perry, Gayle King, Serena Williams. She didn't even invite any of her mum's side of the family to her wedding.

I shudder to think what their wages bill is . I think it was estimated that their security alone cost about $ 4 million a year .

The house running expenses have been estimated at a similar figure too and now they're throwing six figure salaries into the mix in a re-run of every so far failed rebranding exercise to date?

That place must have a magic money tree somewhere in the grounds.

Eww what a misogynistic statement.

Unless Harry is planning on launching a trousers fashion line!

I thought they didn’t want to be royal- why are they mimicking the structure of the business side of the Royal Family.
They really don’t see themselves as anything other than the entitled side of being royal. But they did leave and they’re no more royal than the rest of us.
I can go with the idea of the Royal Family - and quite enjoy the spectacle. But this pair are not part of that small group, no matter how much they try to mimic it.

They are not replicating royal household. They have put in place a largely communications and PR, campaign team. How DM interprets that it vert different from reality.
