I've embarrassed for Meghan saying that her arranging takeaway food on a plate is the same thing as what Figs Heather Hasson has done 😬

Royalty adds cachet. She's not in a role associated with glamour or fashion.

Mylovelygreendress · 18/05/2025 15:47

I think Dior denied that story .

As I understand it, there were preliminary and probably not serious conversations at Dior about doing something with Meghan; she got over-excited and had her people put it out to the press; Dior said, Sorry but we were just never that into you.

Meghan is pretty but she doesn't have the face or body for one of the high fashion houses, not many mortal humans do have that rare and exquisite combination of genetics that is 'the look'. Also, wrong ethnicity in 2025. Haute couture and luxury brands are mainly using Asian especially Chinese and Korean models now for women because the Chinese and South Koreans are pretty much the only nation left with an upper middle class with lots of disposable income, who are (sadly) desperate to look Western. That's why all the K-pop girls are getting the big modelling gigs.

High fashion isn't racist necessarily (just utterly misogynist) but if they want a Black female model they'll go for a dark-skinned over a light-skinned woman because they photograph so strikingly and, also, because there's disposable income in the elite social classes of many African nations too.

Also, ALL the high fashion houses are obsessed with British royalty, I don't know why, they just are. Any royalty, really. So Meghan destroyed any chance she had of being the face of anyone decent when she did Oprah and Netflix. She also apparently pissed off Edward Enninful, I don't know the details, and he's not exactly a difficult man to piss off, but anyway she did. So that ruined Vogue for her.

Meghan just doesn't have the body for high fashion, nothing wrong with that, most of us don't. She has a square torso and not much waist. She looks lovely in flared dresses that give the illusion of a waist and minimise her shoulders which are quite broad; why she insists on body con and those execrable high-waisted belted pants suits I do not know. Kate suits those looks because Kate is willowy.

I think if she/they had played things very differently on leaving (mainly not slagging off the RF, the source of the cachet and keeping up a public relationship with them) something in that line would have potentially been more lucrative than runny jam, flower sprinkles and sinking podcasts.

Yes, because they could have still returned home for the big eye catching stuff eg the Coronation, Trooping the Colour, etc, in a carriage parade and being on the balcony perhaps. Certainly high profile events which would mark them as Royal. She's selling pancake mix and jam, and has a hostessing show - it's not even cooking. What big brand needs that?

Uricon2 · 18/05/2025 15:39

... was the face of, say, Dior, as was reported at the time of Megxit?

I'd forgotten that @GiveMeSpanakopita . I know it was supposed to have been offered to Diana post divorce and she said no, sensibly in her position IMO. If it was offered to Meghan though she was a fool not to take it.

IIRC it was leaked by the Sussex camp that Dior wanted her and talks were happening. Unfortunately for Meghan, Dior issued a swift denial and instead went with Meg Bellamy, who played the PoW in The Crown 😱

Uricon2 · 18/05/2025 16:59

I wonder if any leak re a supposed offer by Dior was another manifestation of the emulation of Diana, of which there has been lots?

I read somewhere that she pissed off Edward Enninful by being difficult to work with when she edited an edition before Megxit - demanding, not taking advice, the usual things.

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 18/05/2025 17:07

She looked awful in the Dior outfits she has publicly worn.

Camilla though? She rocked it!

We need Catherine to do a state visit to France so we can see her in some Dior

Yes, she could have had a very useful friend there. Gone. Plus he got an OBE and works for the King's Trust, so he's being wise to keep her at bay..

I've started a new thread about an article in the DM covering the fall-out, which involves Meghan cutting him off because he wouldn't run a story about her and H's charity work in the way that she wanted. The Clooneys, the Beckhams, the Obamad and Edward Enninful have all realised which side their bread is buttered on. H&M are in a sort of no-man's land, not quite royal, not quite celebrities and have so far failed to carve out a distinctive niche for themselves.

They are also, let's be honest, not trustworthy. They over share and they are proven liars. I think people see how they have behaved, and distance themselves.

Agree it's all part of the same issue with relationships

I agree. There's also chaos around them - car chases, fake children, spurious financial dealings, dodgy charities, law suits, public tantrums, endless rumours, staff leaving. Few people would want to be around people who live in that way.

flapjackfairy · 18/05/2025 18:22

i have to say I know v little about fashion but to me Meghan always looks like she has dressed herself from an Oxfam charity bag. Not a look I expect many fashion houses would want to be associated with.

Fair dos. Style is personal.

I feel like Meghan looks like a frump in these outfits and I know she is capable of dressing well.

I thought Camilla looked effortlessly chic, which is what French style is to me.

The big fashion houses make couture these days mostly for Middle Eastern and Asian (as Americans use that term: Far Eastern to Brits) buyers. There are still some American and European buyers but they’re far out numbers these days.

There’s a lot of privacy demanded and granted around these buyers. Royalty wearing couture are effectively mannequins/models for this market. “If the Queen of England / PoW / Charlene of Monaco wears it, it’s good enough for me”. Another reason amongst many why Kate’s size stays the same. They will create with her in mind at this point.

Meghan lost the chance of buying couture (too $$$ for her modest means (relative to ME buyers)), modelling couture (when she left the RF and lost the opportunity to be loaned it), or borrowing it (not a reputation anyone wants to be associated with).

I think she looked great in the blue Dior outfit posted above, and liked the white outfit but felt it wore her. She’s not comfortable in couture. Her forte really is Cali casual, which she generally styles and wears very well. Whenever she sees a $$$ price tag, she seems to lose her sense of style to the label.

Out of interest, who's the Queen of England?

I do think Camilla dresses really well. Her clothes fit perfectly and really suit her figure. Meghan seems to wear only beige or white these days and the clothes are just awful and do nothing for her.

Yes - I agree. Camilla made that outfit look very chic without effort

I thought the black dress looked OK on Meghan because the flared skirt was nice although I don't particularly like the boat neck.

However I thought the white outfit - a copy of one of Wallis Simpson's iconic outfits IIRC - did not do her any favours.

BasiliskStare · 18/05/2025 23:07

@HiRen - I do like your post but just on this point "when she left the RF and lost the opportunity to be loaned it ".
I thought as a WRF is was an absolute no-no to accepting gifts , loans etc from designers. Wasn't Meghan told when she was part of the WRF and wanted one of her staff to write to designers for loans / gifts etc , she couldn't do it. I think I have read things sent as a gifts ( I mean clothing, accessories here ) are sent back & the WRF insist of paying for any clothes they choose.

If I have misunderstood your point , I apologise - & I may have.

I have wondered whether M get's a lot of loan , gifted things now , which is why - loans might not fit and also I expect her seemingly very expensive wardrobe probably isn't as expensive as it would appear.

I do think the blue flared Dior dress really suited her. But I think she has often worn very luxury labels which wear her rather than the other way around. (Caroline Herrera red dress - the green cape dress at the Abbey ) , & yes that white Dior outfit didn't look comfortable on her. But I do agree she can really wear jeans and a white shirt and similar brilliantly. I wish I could
