The royal family

Do you think some of you are addicted to hating Harry and Meghan?

More and more these manic threads are popping up on mumsnet, wild posts and theories and then hundreds of posts brimming with excitement about catching them out or exposing them. It’s like a game or a hunt. Have many of you crossed the line from interested to addicted?

Only it wasn’t an attempt to ‘use it against them’. It was an attempt to see if there was any truth in what the OP was saying. I expected that they were exaggerating and if advanced search had shown posters were not posting that much, I’d have said so, and said the OP was talking shite. It seems that the OP has a point though which is what the thread is about.

Of course you were trying to use it against them. Really what is it is I do with you how often and what a person posts about.

I think having strong opinions on H and M is the hallmark of an absolute saddo.

Whereas having strong opinions about people you identify as having 'strong opinions' about H&M isn't 'the hallmark of an absolute saddo'?! 😂

Munnygirl · 11/05/2025 17:57

IDipYouDipWeDip · 11/05/2025 17:45

Then mumsnet shouldn’t allow posts like this because the only way to probe it one way or the other is to look at posting history. Maybe they shouldn’t provide an AS function either.

It seems to me that posters are annoyed because it’s proved that the OP has a point and certain posters are indeed addicted.

You are trying to back peddle here. It’s obvious why you did it

Well technically it was! , but it still was grossly inappropriate and sexist.

I do think that AT THE TIME -not now it’s practically an historical event-anybody who pointed it out rather than just immediately condemning it was doing it to minimise the horribleness of the attack.

sleetysnowflakes · 11/05/2025 17:59

I think a lot of brits (not republicans maybe) have an affection for the royal family - were so happy for Harry and Meghan when they married but were gobsmacked with what they were prepared to say about the family in the Oprah interview and spare. I expected the media intrusion, life in the institution itself to be slated but to betray the privacy of your family while your grandparents were sick/dying was a shock to many of us. I follow H&Ms behaviour/interviews with the hope of some degree of introspection/accountability for what they have done, but it is just been more blaming and doubling down since then. And the entitlement, wanting to be known for doing good works but expecting to be private jet billionaires for little hard work or merit. I would love to read that they’d all been to balmoral and made up in private, or that they were genuinely making a go of a normal life based on humility and hard work. But their hubris and over sharing are so compelling, whether you are a fan or not.

Sigh.

The OP started a thread to ask if people were addicted. I answered using actual numbers. That’s better than just saying yes or no based on…..nothing. As I’ve said, if I’d have found less posts by posters regarding Harry and Meghan, my answer to OPs question would have been different.

Anyway, I’m going back to my addictive subject matter, animals.

But you still commented on the amount of posts

Wasn't it? Just absolutely vile. He just seemed to get away with it, hiding under the GoT trope.

Men always get away with grossly inappropriate sexual comments! 😡

Sorry @CurlewKateim a bit slow today !
I probably agree but I’m just not reading your post correctly, can you explain?

I agree with this. I knew he would get away with his comment because it was a GOT reference but he knew exactly what he was saying. He’s an absolute pig!

I watched GOT and knew the reference straight away!
I did not read his whole article because I didn’t need to , he’s sexist , no surprise, but why did they even publish it!!!

I too was astonished that the editor had allowed it to be published.

Maybe we can all be united in our hatred for Jeremy Clarkson.

I’m in no way defending him or his shitty article but I definitely think there is more blame to spread around! , it’s not good enough for them to wash their hands of it and point fingers, they read it , they published it!

Honestly? , no , not after the comments and passive aggressive attacks!
you can fill your boots though! 🤣

Yes Op, I think it is like an addiction for some posters. There seems to be a number of posters that post a lot of negative posts every week. Is that addiction or maybe just a strange hobby?

Sorry-I’m trying to do several things at once, and I was trying too hard to make sure nobody on here thought I was talking about them! I was trying to point out that SOME people on here and in other places were taking the line that “Oh, it’s just a scene from GOT-not a REAL attack on MM! Can’t you/she take a joke?” In fact-the line that Clarkson and a lot of the MSM took.

Ahh yes ! I do agree with that!! , thought it’s what you meant but just making sure.
yes I don’t find humour in sexually inappropriate comments regardless of which franchise they come from or who they are about!

TooBigForMyBoots · 11/05/2025 18:57

I agree with you @wowwhataday, it is an addiction. The combination of dopamine and validation they get from hating them is very addictive. It's also lucrative. Money and "careers" have been made by feeding it.

Unfortunately, like all addicts, they live in a state of denial so I don't expect many to agree with you.🙃

Thecatsatonthemats · 11/05/2025 19:00

CoffeeCantata · 11/05/2025 12:01

No, I don't, OP.

I'm interested in H & M because I'm interested in history. (Stay with me here for a minute.....you did ask the question, and I'm doing you the courtesy of answering it

I've always been fascinated by British history in particular, and constitutional history. The unique UK system of govt has evolved over centuries and we've never had the type of traumatic and bloody revolution which France and Russia had. Why not? The Civil War and the Glorious Revolution, in which it was established finally that parliament was sovereign, were the best we could manage - thank goodness.

I'm interested in anything which affects our system of govt, large and small. The monarchy survived the First World War (unlike the empires of Germany and Russia, amongst others) and adapted. The abdication crisis of 1936 was a wobbly moment. And recently, the shenanigans of two very shallow, dim and ill-informed people has the power to do so again, as we've seen.

That's the root of my interest. The fact that a 3rd-rate cable actress and one of the dimmest royals have formed an unholy alliance with the (almost) declared aim of destablising the UK monarchy is extremely sensational and interesting to me. I think Harry is so bitter and has been so brainwashed, and that Meghan has her own agenda but both would like to see the end of the monarchy. Meghan is consumed with jealousy about Catherine and Harry about William, and they seem to be forever seeking publicity for their antics.

It's not great to have the UK system rubbished on a global stage. If we ever become a republic, it should be based on better reasons than the petty jealousies of two annoying people. I wish they'd go off and live the private lives they claimed to be so desperate for.

That's why I follow their activities. You can choose to believe me or not!

Me too.

SeeMyReflection · 11/05/2025 19:06

They seem to have created a little community on this board. It’s mostly an echo chamber with posters trying to outdo each other with the negativity and ‘funny’ comments about jam. As has been said here before, when Harry and Meghan are discussed on other boards, you realise most people don’t put much thought into Harry and Meghan and don’t have the dislike for them or desire to mock them that you see on this board.

Again the delicious irony of your post

BemusedAmerican · 11/05/2025 19:21

I don't see the point of the thread. M & H are public celebrities. If they didn't want people to talk about them then they wouldn't write books, do podcasts, do interviews, post stuff on Instagram. I read an article recently that claimed Netflix was running WLM because of the hate watch stats. They've monitized their life and they want the clicks and buzz.

As an American and a NYC resident, I resent having to pay for Harry's security when he visits my city. I resent listening to him describe "Freedom of Speech" as bonkers. Apparently the only person allowed to speak freely is Harry, and according to Spare, he also decides what is truth. He wants to control what others say and speak, from his family to online posters.

This " be kind" attempted guilt thread does not change the reality of their words and actions. African Parks and Sentebale still exist. The emperor is still not wearing any clothes.

BTW, he's loaded. There is no reason he can't be living his best life in Botswana. He just doesn't want to live there.
