More and more these manic threads are popping up on mumsnet, wild posts and theories and then hundreds of posts brimming with excitement about catching them out or exposing them. It’s like a game or a hunt. Have many of you crossed the line from interested to addicted?

No different to you looking st all the things H&M do over a long period of time and then posting disparaging re.akrs abiut them, their liveS, their parenting their mental health, their work, and so on...

And with lots of people doing the same imagine how terrifying that is for them.

But no doubt you will come back and say oh no it's not the same at all they put themselves out in the public...well you put your comments out there whixh may include insights into your life in the public too. But hey its okay if you do that to others but if someone gives you a taste of what you dish out its terrifying and awful.

What on earth are you on about? You do realise that baobun is defending Harry and Meghan here, don’t you? 🤦🏼‍♀️

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 13/05/2025 13:22

Remember when I said that some people go full stan when people aren’t gushing over their favourites, and accuse them of being haters? This is the perfect example. And I’m sorry that I brought @CurlewKate and @BustingBaoBun in to it, because they are clearly not the problem.

I don’t normally comment on anything you have to say but leave @BustingBaoBun alone. She has shared with with posters here an awful thing she went through and she has peoples support. So I suggest you zip it. Sorry @BustingBaoBun I have to say something in your defence here.

It is ENTIRELY different! What an awful post.

@Spectre8 seems to have glitched - WTAH

This thread is bonkers 😝

Profhilodisaster · 13/05/2025 13:32

They have also edited a post from saying something nasty to just a load of laughing emojis. Do they realise we can see what's been edited.

Hello. I find your post quite upsetting because
I think you have me muddled up with someone else. I have done none of those things. In fact I have been criticised a lot and called a fan, a stan, a superfan of H&M.

Please go and look at my posting history and you will see that I don't criticise H&M (there's too many others doing that) and have said many times that they are virtual punchbags by the media. And on MN.

@BustingBaoBun it looks like there has been a monumental posting cock-up.

Hopefully @Spectre8 sill come back and apologise to you very shortly.

Although I agree the post was unforgivable!
and I sympathise and feel for you personally, can we all at least agree that this post is unacceptable regardless of who it was meant for.

RandyRedHumpback · 13/05/2025 13:46

Even if that diatribe was aimed at the wrong poster/the wrong "side", it's still not ok to have said it. And it's certainly not the first time that diatribe has been issued in defense of all manner of things said to critics of H&M. It's heartening that the group that is being targeted by this thread are the ones standing up for someone they wouldn't usually agree with.

Agreed! No one should be spoken to or about like this!

@CoffeeCantata

The main question you’ve asked is this, I think

I'd like OP to answer this question: why do you think it's strange that people have an opinion, and feel the need to comment, on 2 people who put themselves constantly in the public eye? Oh, and who preach to us all? And continue their attacks on the RF, even those suffering from cancer? I don't understand why OP thinks that's so odd.)
OP? If you start a thread, I think you need to answer some questions yourself.

My answer is about being proportionate. If you’ve answered once or twice why the need to keep at it. When does it become an overwhelming focus for you where you’re thinking and posting about it all the time, waiting eagerly for new events to comment on, annoyed if it’s quiet. Only you can be true to yourself on this but it comes across as obsessive and meeting an emotional need in you rather than a genuine and proportionate interest.

I see it as a conversation. New information is introduced which people discuss so there’s an element of back and forth, and people will post multiple comments amplifying the point. If that information showed H and/or MM in a good light people would say so, and do. Unfortunately it so often doesn’t.

If you’re asking whether people enjoy disliking Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, I think not. Maybe they enjoy seeing them fail, because they’ve done so little to deserve success and so much to hurt others.

If what you’re hoping, OP, is that you’ll drive people away from commenting on the behaviour of these two morally bankrupt individuals, you’ll have to try harder.

edited to say I seem to have linked a quote I didn’t mean to!

I think the parallels between the MAGA and Sussex Squad strategies are fascinating, especially since Ari Emmanuel's brother Rahm Emmanuel faced the MAGA strategy when he worked on Hillary Clinton's 2016 Presidential campaign. (Ari is the head of WME.)

There is an entire alternate world view where one entity is cast as the ultimate villain and all roads always lead to the villain. The villain is simultaneously the ultimate organized omnipotent evil and a bumbling copycat entity fearful of the righteous hero. For MAGA the villain is the Democratic Party and for the SS it is the Royal Family.

Other features of both include DARVO, cruel & dehumanising nicknames and a relentless addiction to victimhood. Unfortunately for H&M's SS, they have neither the infrastructure nor message discipline that MAGA enjoys.

Therefore, it is relatively easy to distinguish between ordinary posters versus those disseminating non-organic narratives which start with a handful of key nodal accounts on social media.

RandyRedHumpback · 13/05/2025 14:47

It's funny you say that, @My2cents1975 . I've been thinking that the TRA bots have been re-deployed since the Supreme Court ruling on the Equality Act. This is the sort of thread that was appearing on FWR 7/8 years ago, when women were being shamed about the conversations they were having there.

It’s a shame you didn’t read the thread properly before you posted this nonsensical rubbish. How do you think other posters criticism of the Sussexes justifies making this personal attack? And a misplaced one at that 🙄

BigWillyLittleTodger · 13/05/2025 15:55

Wow I can’t believe @Spectre8 post, I saw the laughing emojis after @Profhilodisaster post and thought surely they can’t be laughing at that and gave them the benefit of the doubt but after seeing the post aimed @BustingBaoBun I can see that was misplaced, absolutely dreadful no matter who it’s aimed at.

CoffeeCantata · 13/05/2025 15:58

Spectre - you do remind me of the Bad Fairy in Sleeping Beauty, the things you come on here and say! I imagine you with a black dress and wand.

No offence intended.

I agree.

It is not just the Sussex Squad. The MAGA strategy which Trump pioneered is now standard political operating strategy. Democrats now have the "Oligarchy Tour" with Trump is the ultimate villain and dehumanising nicknames have been applied to Trump's cabinet and advisors. The same strategy has proliferated around the world and has been hyper charged with bots vociferously echoing talking points, so social media is basically a Potemkin village of fake support!

H&M are interesting because they are celebrities deploying a political strategy...hence the deep disconnect in the US as exemplified by the "disaster tourism" debacle. In the US politicians go to disasters to convey sympathy and announce resources to help those suffering on behalf of the nation, and in the UK because the monarchy is a political institution, the RF do the same. US celebrities occupy a very different lane so two celebrities (H&M) doing a photo op on behalf of themselves with no resources of any magnitude to contribute landed spectacularly badly.

It seems that H&M's strategy is to keep doubling down. And unfortunately for them, the House keeps winning.

RandyRedHumpback · 13/05/2025 16:07

Great post @My2cents1975 . Yes, I agree, I think we are being treated to the standard political operation strategy of our times on this board. Nothing organic about it, as you said before. But yes, no amount of such strategy can turn fool's gold into the real thing.

Um SpectreB has obviously made a mistake addressing her post to BustingBaoBun
and about twelve posters have pointed that out now.

How about we give her a chance to respond?

These threads are fast moving and it’s easy to lose track of responses.

We all make mistakes sometimes

Peace and love. 🌸
